Just that really. Are quooker ones worth the extra? Anyone regret having it installed?

Question as we are doing our kitchen this year, how does it work energy wise, does it use more than say a kettle?? I have an induction hob which when doing veg etc boils the water quickly.

rivertoskateaway · 28/04/2021 09:22

We have a qettle and it’s great, cold filtered water and the boiling water is 100 degrees!

CombatBarbie · 28/04/2021 09:23

Forgot to add, when we scoped wrens kitchens the sales rep actually advised against one saying it wasn't energy efficient and just a fad

Coldilox · 28/04/2021 09:27

How destructive is the fitting process? No plans to do up the kitchen but I’d love one of these.

crazylikechocolate · 28/04/2021 09:32

Yes , love it , I've just sold and looking for a new house , a boiling tap will be top of the list in refurbishments

customerisqueen · 28/04/2021 09:36

Love mine - nearly didn't get it as kitchen refit was already more that's had planned so was definitely outside of our budget. It probably didn't make sense in terms of cost - kettles are cheap and could have a new one every year! But it means one less appliance on the counters , which I like and really convenient when cooking and need hot water.

MajorNeville · 28/04/2021 09:51

I couldn't find one which would fit in our kitchen, I was so angry, lol. I eventually had a quooker fitted in the utility. Love it, but I so want one in the kitchen now.

QueenOfToast · 28/04/2021 10:09

I've had a quooker tap for about 15 years and love it. We're in a very hard water area so we've had to do a bit of descaling over the years to keep it working well, but it's never not worked. When needed, customer phone support from quooker has always been good, plus DH is fairly handy so he's easily been able to service it himself.

Cookerhood · 28/04/2021 11:26

Don't get one if you are looking for an economical alternative to a kettle. The cost of installation alone would take years to recoup. The beauty of them is instant boiling water (& yes, the quooker is booming, don't know about the others, I've heard that they aren't but that might be different now). Puts takes up about 1/3 - 1/2 of the under sink cupboard but that's partly because we need the descaling unit as well. The newer ones may well be smaller.

goldierocks · 28/04/2021 11:37

I've got the Franke 4-in-one Omni and love it!

Fot those asking, it fits the standard 35mm tap hole on kitchen sinks. The tank under the sink holds enough water for 8 large mugs in one go, or two large saucepan fulls. If the tank gets empty, mine takes about 4 mins to get back up to temperature.

I've had mine for 2.5 years now. I randomly check the temperature and it's still (always been) 100.5 degrees.

It costs about 10p per day to run. To compare, a kettle would cost about 2.5p every time it's boiled.

I hope that helps.

Twospaniels · 28/04/2021 11:39

We have Insinkerator and would definitely recommend it. Wouldn’t go back to a kettle now.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/04/2021 11:43

Had an insinkerator but it only lasted a couple of years before the tank started leaking. Had a quooker one fitted and it's far superior and also much quieter. I could always hear the insinkerator heating up.

dotdashdashdash · 28/04/2021 12:01

@Ariela

Can I ask the boiling water tap lovers: is it actually boiling? Only I like my tea to actually be poured boiling. Not almost-hot-but-not-boiling , or nearly-hot like you get from a thermos jug on a table at a reception.
Quooker have patent on 100 degree water, so franke, grove etc are all 98 degrees.

I'm not expecting it to be life changing, but we're getting a whole new kitchen so looking at them to be included in that.

We don't use much boiling water as have a coffee machine, so it won't get absolutely hammered and we also live in a very soft water area. They are very safe so not concerned about that.

In regards to noise, is that generally or just in use?

In love with my quooker

dotdashdashdash · 28/04/2021 12:05

So it sounds as though a quooker is worth the extra. Only thing I'm a bit more bothered about is running cost as we probably won't use it everyday, but then again I don't want a kettle on my work top!

@CJBear

Best thing in my new kitchen. Was between this and a “hide and slide” oven. Every time I use it I congratulate myself on my choice 😊
Ooh no I love my slide and hide!
WidowTwonky · 28/04/2021 12:06

We have Quooker and love it.

Silent other than when pouring the boiling water

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/04/2021 12:39

I use mine all the time when I'm cooking so that I can have instant boiling water for cooking rice or pasta , instant gravy or dissolving stock cubes. I drink tea mainly so it's great for that and DH likes his instant miso soup sachets so he uses the tap for that.

When the insinkerator broke there was no question of replacing it. We could not be without a boiling tap now we've got used to it.

We also have a cold water filter function on ours and I can immediately tell the difference in taste between the filtered and the unfiltered tap water.

Cookerhood · 28/04/2021 13:15

Yes, silent unless dispensing water.

QuizzlyBear · 28/04/2021 13:17

Quooker tap here and I bloody love it. We inherited it when we bought our house, as it's not something I'd have thought of adding otherwise, but its fantastic! Hot water on demand, faff free, no need for a kettle...

Cheerfulcharlie · 28/04/2021 13:18

I've had a Perrin & Rowe for over 2 years and it's fantastic!

MatildaTheCat · 28/04/2021 13:20

We have a Franke which is six years old so probably out of date. I like the concept but in reality it’s difficult to use for anyone with stiff hands and for anyone if filling a pan for pasta etc. I’m thinking of replacing it and like the sound of one that does cold filtered water too.

The cartridges are expensive, almost £40 and recommended to be changed every six months. We don’t!

CustardyCreams · 28/04/2021 13:33

We bought a house with one. I hate it . Dangerous.

dotdashdashdash · 28/04/2021 13:43

We're getting both!

What brand is it and why do you think it is dangerous? All the ones we are looking at, the boiling option is a specific operation, usually on the opposite side to normal hot/ cold water so you can't accidentally turn it on.
