Answering the door mask less ?

demiwav · 27/04/2021 17:39

Am I ok to answer my front door without wearing a mask. For example if it's a quick hello and thank you as driver hands me pizza.

I would answer it if a door to door fundraiser knocked for example and I May be talking for some time .. however not sure if it's expected for opening the door to deliveries .

What do you think?

@HedgePutty

I talk through the intercom and tell them to leave it on the doorstep. Interesting how many of you manage to accept a takeaway without getting within 2m!
"contactless delivery" has been a massive thing for most takeaway places and just eat since the start of the pandemic. They leave it on your doorstep.

Also, standing closer than 2m to someone poses pretty much no risk at all. I work in the NHS and if someone in the same office had covid, we would have to have been sitting closer than 2m to them and for minimum 15 minutes before we would also have to self isolate.

We manage it in exactly the same way you do?
Scarlettpixie · 27/04/2021 18:44

I have had tons of stuff delivered during the pandemic and never wear a mask to open the door. Less than half of those delivering wear a mask. Generally I open the door, step back they pop whatever it is on the mat and sometimes take a pic. No contact.

Some takeaway people hand over the bag. It takes a second.

Supermarket delivery driver are hit and miss. Some masked, some not. Some stand back, some want to pass you stuff. No one has asked me to wear a mask.

If someone needed to come in my house I would wear one.

They knock, put it doen, walk away
Im2sexyforthissite · 27/04/2021 18:50

I make sure to keep my hazmat shut by the front door.

Furrydog7 · 27/04/2021 18:51

I have never even thought to wear a mask whilst answering the door and i have never been asked to wear a mask by a delivery driver. When i had to have my boiler repaired during the second wave i was just asked to stay in another room.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 27/04/2021 18:54

We’ve had a lot of takeaways over the past year. They put it down, ring the bell and take a few steps back. Really easy. If you can manage to accept takeaways from 2m away in the way you’ve described, why do you think other people wouldn’t be able to? Confused
Anyway, I have never and will never wear a mask to open my own front door.

Cattitudes · 27/04/2021 18:58

Delivery no, but if someone comes into the house to fix something I would wear it while in the same room as them.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 27/04/2021 18:59

I do, I think it's a courtesy. They're expected to go to a lot of houses in one day, and it's the one small thing I can do to make them feel a little safer & a little more respected/appreciated.

Maskedrevenger · 27/04/2021 19:03

Amazon delivery drivers are required to wear masks. They will place parcel down and ring bell and step back, on occasion they may have to very briefly be close enough to see age verification depending on what you have ordered. They often deliver in blocks of flats or inside workplaces and it is not always easy to tell from the address that they will have to enter a building so they wear a mask every time, they do not require customers to wear masks, if customers choose to wear a mask that is fine.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/04/2021 19:04

I've never done this, they are outside in the fresh air. When we had an official visitor we all wore masks inside the house and had windows open.

1forAll74 · 27/04/2021 19:04

No would not wear a mask to answer the door, but would not have a pizza delivery, as never eat them. but anyway you never know how many people have handled the boxes,if you are bothered about germs.

Pinkyavocado · 27/04/2021 19:04

Wouldn’t occur to me to put a mask on anywhere except where I “have” to.

ChristmasAlone · 27/04/2021 19:06

Food and deliveries are left on the floor now

I'd check ring and if it looked like a door to door person I don't answer

merryhouse · 27/04/2021 19:06

Incidentally, if you ever find yourself with a cold caller you don't want, just give them a beaming smile, say "we're not interested thank you" and close the door.

It's like dumping a boyfriend. You don't have to persuade the other party to agree. You don't need them to think you're a nice person. You're not obliged to engage.

ChrissyPlummer · 27/04/2021 19:11

Wore one when an engineer came out to repair our boiler, at the request of the company. They asked that I stayed 2m away, kept the room ventilated and wore a mask. I never have just to answer the door; as pp said, all deliveries/post are just placed on the doorstep, courier stands back, takes a picture and leaves.

Notaroadrunner · 27/04/2021 19:12

Exactly. I don't entertain them at all.
MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 27/04/2021 19:13

I would never and have never worn a mask in my own home. Had a guy working in the car today. Made him a cuppa and he used loo. All without masks. Not worried.

Justwingingit2005 · 27/04/2021 19:15

It makes me think how are people going to return to normal such as hugs, social situations and now answering the door without masks.

We know covid isn't suddenly going to vanish.

I know people who have been for 14 months and still are bleaching shopping, and someone who has been bleaching his car.

Sadsiblingatsea · 27/04/2021 19:16

No.
This is COVID fanaticism.

takemetothelakes · 27/04/2021 19:18

I never think of putting one on to answer the door. If I get a food delivery I ask them to put it down in the porch anyway. If someone is coming in I would, like when we had someone round to quote for something.

felinelucky · 27/04/2021 19:19

I think it's good form to wear a mask if you've initiated the contact e.g. if it's a Deliveroo person who's having to meet dozens of people at their doors every day. Even if you know you're low risk it's polite to show you're considering their well-being.

SkedaddIe · 27/04/2021 19:20

Unless you're talking about a mask big enough to cover your entire front door then it's pointless. (You've presumably been walking around maskless breathing freely before they arrived).

The mask on your face will do nothing for all of the virus particles in the air that waft out of your house when you open the door.

Ohnomoreno · 27/04/2021 19:21

If a deliver driver asked if I had a mask I'd say, yes, of course I do. Thanks for asking. They don't have to get within two metres of me, and masks are pretty much just a bit of hygiene theatre anyway, so why would I put one on inside my house?

apooagnuandyou · 27/04/2021 19:22

I am quite happy never to return to normal and stick with social distancing in all public places Grin

Hugs and things, I am already back doing those anyway!
