Answering the door mask less ?

Am I ok to answer my front door without wearing a mask. For example if it's a quick hello and thank you as driver hands me pizza.

I would answer it if a door to door fundraiser knocked for example and I May be talking for some time .. however not sure if it's expected for opening the door to deliveries .

What do you think?

Really? What a delight you are 😂

Because I don’t perform for people who have disturbed me in my own home? Ok. I can live with that.

demiwav · 27/04/2021 17:55

@Alonelonelylonersbadidea I may start to do that then.

Your house, your rules

lonel · 27/04/2021 17:58

I always put a mask on if the person at the door has a mask. Seems like good manners.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 27/04/2021 18:01

I've never answered the door wearing a mask.

slashlover · 27/04/2021 18:08

I wear a mask answering the door because I live in a flat which opens into a communal building, if my door opened to the outside then I wouldn't.

I have one of the stickers on my door for no cold calling.

Boood · 27/04/2021 18:11

There’s no requirement to wear a mask in communal areas of an apartment building in the UK. Nobody in my building does, or has done at any point.

EileenGC · 27/04/2021 18:15

I wore a mask for deliveries at the height of the winter wave, but a delivery involves the person carrying my parcel/pizza walking up a narrow, indoors staircase towards my top floor flat, and me doing the same but going down so we meet somewhere in the middle. He is legally required to wear a mask as technically the work is indoors, so for the sake of one minute and protecting them, I wore one too.

Now the numbers are low and I’m testing every 24-48h I don’t feel I have to wear one anymore. Even the delivery guys are more relaxed.

Not everyone lives in the UK.

Would never have occurred to me to do this tbh, some parcel/food delivery people wear a mask and some don't, doesn't bother me at all either way. As PP have said in my experience they tend to leave things on the doorstep and knock or text to let you know to come out for it (if I order things from Uber Eat or Just Eat there's a "no contact delivery" pre-selected) so the risk is probably minimal.

SamMil · 27/04/2021 18:21

No I've never worn a mask to open the door, even during the height of the pandemic.

lillylemons · 27/04/2021 18:22

We have a sign-up in our block that says we need to wear a mask in the communal area. I don't open the door to deliveries I say thank you through the door and they leave it on my mat not actually seen a delivery driver in months but have spoken to many through the door. if I'm ordering a take away i put a cooler box outside the door and the driver put the food in there or on top

EasterEggBelly · 27/04/2021 18:22

I always wear one. Especially for a supermarket delivery when they will be hanging around waiting for me to unpack the crates. It’s just courteous.

SmileyClare · 27/04/2021 18:22

I'm quite surprised the pizza delivery guy asked you to put a mask on. They usually just put the pizza down and rush off. In fact in the time it took him to ask you to mask up, he could have been gone. Confused

Onthegrid · 27/04/2021 18:22

No, I have not worn a mask to answer the door throughout the pandemic. I keep my masks in my car as I have to drive to go anywhere I would need one.
I have not seen a take away or parcel courier wearing one and I am pretty sure the postie doesn't either. I was getting 3-5 deliveries a week during the first lockdowns, now my student DC have gone back to their student houses for this lockdown I am down to 1-2. The very short usually socially distanced transaction does not need a mask.

I notice that the Tesco drivers do wear masks and gloves (although that may not be for protection)

SouthOfFrance · 27/04/2021 18:23

Eh, they asked you what you were cooking?

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/04/2021 18:24

Never worn a mask when answering the door.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 27/04/2021 18:24

I don't answer the door to randomers....working from home in my office at the front of house so can see who is knocking.
Getting really annoyed at energy companies, local election candidates, charity collectors etc calling with no masks on.
Maybe I should have answered the door last week as we all had coronavirus!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/04/2021 18:26

@demiwav

The pizza guy had a mask on. I haven't had any deliveries made by anyone in a mask before . The pizza guy asked if I had a mask. It took seconds yes.
All bar 2 my delivery drivers, male or female had masks on.

One kept standing by the door handing me the packages directly and wnating a signature 😳 So I said to step back on like 3rd occasion that I am self isolating (i wasn't). Since then he kept far🙈

I never wear mask to answer the door. They are supposed to stand further away. If you are ordering food all the places i know do contactless delivery either automatically or have it as an option

LST · 27/04/2021 18:26

Nope never worn a mask in my home and we've had a new oven and broadband over lockdown. Never occurred to me

AlwaysLatte · 27/04/2021 18:33

I wear a mask when grocery deliveries arrive but other deliveries get left on the doorstep or I step back in my hall while I'm talking to people on the doorstep.

HedgePutty · 27/04/2021 18:36

I talk through the intercom and tell them to leave it on the doorstep. Interesting how many of you manage to accept a takeaway without getting within 2m!

GintyMcGinty · 27/04/2021 18:37

I have never answered my door wearing a mask.

Happycat1212 · 27/04/2021 18:41

HedgePutty round here they put it on the door step, knock then stand right back to make sure you answer then I say thanks and they walk off. So easily done

GintyMcGinty · 27/04/2021 18:42

Easy peasy.

They ring the bell. Pop it on the doorstep. Step back. Smile and wave when you open the door and collect.
