Pudding after dinner?

tuliplily · 26/04/2021 16:41

If you have small children, do they/you have pudding after dinner? If so then what? Do you have the same thing?

DH always had dessert as a kid but I only had it on a Sunday ( usually crumble) after a roast.

My toddler has fruit and yogurt but rarely anything else.

AIBU:

Yes- of course we have pudding
No- rarely or never

When the boys were kids, I used to give them a yoghurt for pudding, but that stopped as they got older. Dh and I sometimes have a yoghurt for pudding, sometimes have something like apple pie, and sometimes don’t have anything, and that is what the boys do too, now they are grown up.

DS has school dinners and he has a pudding then, so we don't have them at home. I'm trying to lose weight so I'm not having puddings.

Cowbells · 26/04/2021 16:46

DC have yoghurt or sometimes a small ice cream. Proper pudding (crumble etc) or cake only at weekend.

AbstractHeart · 26/04/2021 16:53

DS always has fruit with his dinner, but never a separate pudding

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/04/2021 16:54

We have some sort of pudding. Can be just fruit or yoghurt, can be something more like ice cream.
Would have anything that needed much making during the weeks.

bananaboats · 26/04/2021 16:57

Never except special occasions or if we have people over.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 26/04/2021 17:00

We sometimes have a piece of chocolate in the week, the kids always have fruit and sometimes a small yoghurt if they are still hungry.
We have a proper pudding like ice cream or cheesecake or something one day at the weekend

CMOTDibbler · 26/04/2021 17:01

No, not even routinely yogurt. Never have done

AIMD · 26/04/2021 17:01

We have it everyday but in all honestly I don’t know how we got into the pattern. I wouldn’t again if I could go back because it is usually uneccissary.

We do everyday and a couple of times it will be a bit of cake/chocolate type dessert but most of the week Greek yoghurt and fruit.

ArrrMeHearties · 26/04/2021 17:02

Pudding house here but not every night. If we have it we have either an ice cream cone or a chocolate wrap or a yoghurt

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/04/2021 17:03

My DS does have a pudding (but he's ASD so very routine driven where food is concerned so it's a frustratingly hard cycle to break 😖.) Generally he wants an ice lolly so we've switched to low sugar yogurt lollies, or mini milks.

Floralnomad · 26/04/2021 17:04

When my children were young they had dessert if they wanted it , dh still has dessert every night usually pie / crumble with custard / evaporated milk or cheesecake . I very rarely eat dessert .

emsyj37 · 26/04/2021 17:05

I can't function without something sweet to round off dinner. I normally have a kitkat or Tunnock bar. Maybe something bigger at the weekend like cake and ice cream. DH never really ate puddings as a child so is infuriated that the kids are in the habit of having a biscuit or similar after dinner every night. It is a bad habit but I don't drink at home, I don't snack after dinner and I dont have much of a sweet tooth otherwise so meh, it's my vice and I'm ok with it.

TeddyBeans · 26/04/2021 17:09

I grew up having pudding every day and DS has pudding every day. 9 times out of 10 it's a yoghurt

MolotovMocktail · 26/04/2021 17:10

We hardly ever have an actual pudding but often have fruit after dinner.

shouldistop · 26/04/2021 17:11

Sometimes we'll have icecream but not if we've had something sweet earlier in the day

Horehound · 26/04/2021 17:12

Jeez I'm shocked so few have pudding. I have some kind of treat most nights Blush

GameSetMatch · 26/04/2021 17:17

We usually have a pudding but it can be a piece of fruit or a yoghurt or something more unhealthy like Jelly or cake.

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 26/04/2021 17:25

My DC has pudding most days. Monday to Thursday, it's either fruit and yoghurt or peanut butter or Nutella on toast. Friday is ice-cream night. Saturday is chocolate night. Sunday is cake night (we usually bake something together during the day).

We limit treats at other times since it's better for his teeth to have any sugary treats with a meal so I'm fine with him having a small something every night.

AliceMcK · 26/04/2021 17:27

I very rarely had pudding as a child, I was always jealous of my friends that did. My DCs have desert after lunch & dinner, they usually choose their own desert, this can be anything in the snack draw, donut, cupcake, ice cream, ice lolly, popcorn, yogurt, fruit... quantity depends on what they choose they may have a fun sized twix, a full sized magnum or a punnet of raspberries. There are times they don’t want anything at all. We don’t usually police what they have unless they are being greedy which they very rarely do and it’s usually just my one chocoholic child who tries pushing it.

AMillionMilesAway · 26/04/2021 17:28

50% of the time. Yoghurt or fruit.

AmyLou100 · 26/04/2021 17:28

We have ice cream, a piece or two of chocolate, I bake alot so something of that. Ds 5yo does have something sweet every day after supper. Everything in moderation and all that.

dizzydizzydizzy · 26/04/2021 17:30

Always have some kind of pudding - can be fruit and yogurt, sometimes fruit and ice cream, sometimes a small piece of chocolate or a biscuit. Occasionally, we make a cake or a crumble.

WorraLiberty · 26/04/2021 17:31

No, only if we're having someone round for dinner.

I don't consider fruit as a dessert/pudding either. It's just fruit to us.

Sunhoop · 26/04/2021 17:32

No never unless a special occasion or we've gone out to a restaurant. However I think it's possibly cultural as DH and I aren't from the UK. All my British friends do this but it's not the done thing back home, I never knew anyone who had regular dessert growing up, it would have been seen as a tad glutinous!
