Pudding after dinner?

tuliplily · 26/04/2021 16:41

If you have small children, do they/you have pudding after dinner? If so then what? Do you have the same thing?

DH always had dessert as a kid but I only had it on a Sunday ( usually crumble) after a roast.

My toddler has fruit and yogurt but rarely anything else.

AIBU:

Yes- of course we have pudding
No- rarely or never

I sometimes have fruit or cheese and a glass of wine. Actual pudding pudding though? Rarely. I do plenty of crap during the day though

battleaxe2000 · 26/04/2021 20:00

I try to make a tray bake thing at the weekend (brownies, blondies, lemon drizzle, tiffin or similar) when they were younger they had a piece after school, now they tend to have it after dinner. I might do a crumble at the weekend after a roast. In the summer there are smoozes in the freezer.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/04/2021 20:17

Just me and dh now. About once a month I make a Proper Pud for a treat.
E.g. crumble, Eve’s pudding, cherry clafoutis, etc.

And always if we have guests.
Otherwise no, but I often go prowling round the kitchen later for Something Nice. Possibly a handful of raisins, or a slice of toast with blackcurrant jam.
Nutella is lethal because it’s a specially nice Something Nice when eaten with a spoon. 🐷.

So if I’ve bought any to make Nutella pancakes for Gdcs, they have to take the rest home with them.

DD asks for pudding after every meal!
Normally it's fruit, occasionally with a biscuit or meringue nest too.
Sometimes apple & grapes.
Very occasionally a hot sponge pudding but only with fruit too.

whyhell0there · 26/04/2021 20:30

Only occasionally, otherwise child becomes fixated on the dessert and won't eat the actual dinner

wineandsunshine · 26/04/2021 20:33

Yes, we have pudding every night in our house. I will admit to being the first person who needs something sweet after dinner.

Fruit is not a pudding!

Give me a packet of chocolate hob nobs every night of the week Grin

ichundich · 26/04/2021 20:43

We tend to have pudding. Hardly ever cake though; it usuallyvconsists of yoghurt, custard, jelly, pancake or a bit of chocolate. Don't see fruit as a 'pudding' but as a necessity, unless it's something like strawberries and cream. A while ago there was a thread on here about how many sausages people tend to eat, and most people answered 3 to 5 per person, which I found more unusual.

Have pudding on Sunday only
Very much as a treat rather than every day ,as I I am always watching my weight and am nervous about the DC getting into bad eating habits

gospelsinger · 26/04/2021 21:12

About 50% of the time we do. DC3 will always ask 'what are we having for pudding. Sometimes it's just her who has something. Usually it's home made biscuit/cake or muffin, ice cream, jelly, melon. Very occasionally I'll make crumble or sticky toffee pudding

daisyjgrey · 26/04/2021 21:14

Puddings are important!

TheKeatingFive · 26/04/2021 21:16

Fruit yes, or sometimes a yoghurt. Pudding pudding once a week or so.

Katjolo · 26/04/2021 21:22

Small pot of yoghurt for my little one.

LordEmsworth · 26/04/2021 21:23

I am astonished by the people saying never. Do your kids know what apple crumble is but without ever tasting it? Or rice pudding? Or custard?

If I said to them that a Scotsman walked into a bakers and asked "is that a scone or a meringue" would they say "no obviously he was right, it was a scone" because they have never come across the concept of meringue? I find it hard to get my head round the idea that some children have never tasted jelly and ice cream...

megletthesecond · 26/04/2021 21:29

Fruit isn't an evening pudding for me. It's a guaranteed way to get a bloated stomach and IBS if I eat it after lunch.

Maggiesfarm · 26/04/2021 21:39

Strawberries and cream is a nice pudding which takes hardly any effort. Pancakes are yummy. Crumble is easy and you can use tinned fruit.

I love baked apples filled with dried fruit and honey.

ZoeMaye · 26/04/2021 21:41

We always have some kind of desserts in and available. Fruit (fresh, frozen, tinned, stewed) yogurt, mousses/other chilled desserts, ice cream/ice lollies, jelly pots, custard pots, biscuits, cake, maybe some frozen cakes of some kind in the freezer. Most week nights we don't get that far, tbh. But I like to have bits in. We always have bits like Squirty cream in which is a favourite with some fruit or jelly.

mayblossominapril · 26/04/2021 21:43

Slightly lol at the thought that there are whole swathes of sad, skinny, pale malnourished looking kids who don’t know what a treacle sponge is rather that just knowing what puddings are but not being fed them all the time Grin
crashbandicoot4 · 26/04/2021 21:56

When the kids were younger they had fruit offered after dinner. If they had eaten a decent dinner and had fruit then they could have something else pudding like.

Now as teens they sometimes have pudding sometimes not. Generally it's cake or ice cream as we always have that in the house.

If I make a crumble it will be a Sunday lunch affair

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 26/04/2021 21:56

Yes they have yoghurt most nights, occasionally a real treat like cake or chocolate but not often.

seepingweeping · 26/04/2021 21:59

Rarely but I don't eat it. If I remember to buy something then I'll sort it for everyone else.

dementedma · 26/04/2021 22:02

No puddings here except sometimes at weekends

Captianthunderpants · 26/04/2021 22:03

I don't really remember having pudding when I was younger everyday, but definitely always on a sunday.
When mine were little they would usually have a yoghurt, now they have an ice lolly or a couple of biscuits as they're not really big cake eaters and neither am I, however i do love a chocolate gateau or crumble after a Sunday roast.

Planty13 · 26/04/2021 22:04

Only yoghurt or fruit here . Rarely anything like cake etc

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 26/04/2021 22:05

No, we very rarely have pudding.

Fruit and/or yoghurt IS NOT pudding!
