To think I shouldn’t feel like this after 2 drinks!

Santastealer · 25/04/2021 07:32

Out for a meal last night and I had 2 white wine spritzers with a substantial dinner. By the end of the second one I was feeling tipsy, by the time I got into bed the room was spinning.

Felt terrible all night and now this morning I have the worst headache and feel nauseous.

I don’t understand how I can have a hangover after 2 drinks that were watered down!

Any ideas why I have reacted so badly to them?

Maybe you have a bug rather than a hangover?

Or could you be pregnant?

TheChosenTwo · 25/04/2021 07:34

No idea but I’ve not drunk much recently, had 2 drinks last weekend and felt so dreadful the next day.
I couldn’t believe it, it’s very out of character for me. Do you drink much? Is 2 white wine spritzers the average amount you’d normally drink?

Crochetqueen1212 · 25/04/2021 07:36

Are you on any medication? Some say not to drink whilst on them.
Is it possible they didnt water it down?

Mummadeze · 25/04/2021 07:36

Are you near menopause at all. I gave up wine at 45 completely as I couldn’t hack it full stop anymore. That does sound weird though. Maybe you were ill with something else or the wine was v strong.

Santastealer · 25/04/2021 07:37

Definitely not pregnant.
Possibly could be a bug I guess, but I didn’t feel unwell until that second drink.
I’ve had very little sleep recently so not sure if that affected my reaction.

I would usually drink 2 or 3 with a meal but obviously haven’t done for a long time with lock down. I drink at home occasionally and would have 2/3 small glasses of Prosecco or 1 bottle of fruit cider.

It’s been very warm recently. Were you maybe a bit dehydrated? I guess you were eating outside if you’d gone out?

Nutrigrainygoodness · 25/04/2021 07:40

This was me last week.
I had 3 glasses of gin and lemonade (probably pub measurements of gin) filled to the top of a pint glass with lemonade.
Didn't feel tipsy or anything, went to bed the room started spinning, had the most horrific headache, couldn't eat until lunch time and slept most of the day.

FindingMeno · 25/04/2021 07:42

Sounds like you've lost your tolerance.
I'm as pissed as a fart after two, and its been the case after 2 pregnancies close together.
I'm quite happy with that, and pretty much don't drink nowadays which I see as a plus. Its just extra cost and calories to feel shit.

Santastealer · 25/04/2021 07:45

Yes we were eating outside. Under cover from direct sun but I had had a busy day and probably neglected drinking enough during the day.

I'm like this.

Did you start your first drink before the meal arrived? I am sensitive to alcohol and can feel pretty rough after 2 wine spritzers. Its a real pain as I have to be sure that I always drink with food.
I also have very broken nights and feel out of sorts on such a moderate intake.
I seldom drink now because its not worth it.

candycane222 · 25/04/2021 07:58

Pub wine servings can be massive, eg 250 ml. 2x250 ml is 2/3 of a bottle, ie 6/7/8 units. That would absolutely wallop me, especially on a warm day.

Cuntryhouse · 25/04/2021 08:04

Age. Are you in your 40s?

midnightstar66 · 25/04/2021 08:14

Sounds like a combination of things, the warm weather, busy day, lack of sleep and lower alcohol tolerance due to not drinking much recently. Also did you start on your first drink before food arrived? I find this makes a difference to me if I start drinking with an empty stomach while waiting for a meal. I'm going to assume as you'd been busy, that you hadn't eaten much all day either?!

Billandben444 · 25/04/2021 08:15

Drink large glass of water before you go out. Wait until you're in your 60s - one large glass of wine and I'm giggling stupidly and trying desperately to stay awake.

Snowdrop30 · 25/04/2021 08:20

Another person seconding age here. Shortly after I got perimenopause (42), I had to cut right back on booze as it no longer 'agreed' with me.

Oblomov21 · 25/04/2021 08:24

Goodness that's not much is it? I wonder if it's a one off or a permanent thing?

Santastealer · 25/04/2021 09:06

I’m mid thirties so shouldn’t be a menopause thing.

I have Gilbert’s syndrome but was told by the GP it shouldn’t affect anything and there wasn’t anything I need to be careful with.

OP posts:
Santastealer · 25/04/2021 09:07

Yes I did start the first one before food arrived and hadn’t eaten much during the day due to being busy with the kids.

I get this a lot, and it's a form of my migraine.

HappydaysArehere · 25/04/2021 09:19

@Santastealer

Yes I did start the first one before food arrived and hadn’t eaten much during the day due to being busy with the kids.
That may well be your answer. If I have a drink before a meal and not eaten all day I feel quite squiffy in no time. Also anything fizzy, like lemonade, added to the drink appears to add to the effect.
Thefaceofboe · 25/04/2021 09:37

My mum has been like this all her life and is adamant she is allergic to alcohol.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 25/04/2021 09:44

A man i used to know became allergic/intolerant of alcohol

Maybe its that

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 25/04/2021 09:48

A cursory google of Gilbert’s syndrome and alcohol shows one drink can cause dizziness in some patients.
(I don’t have that but feel pissed after one glass of wine these days!)

RubyFowler · 25/04/2021 09:48

I think your tolerance is a bit lower than it was, coupled with if you were already a bit dehydrated, as the majority of the hangover is actually down to dehydration isn't it?

Wildswimming3 · 25/04/2021 09:53

Have you had covid? Intolerance to alcohol can be a side affect
