A friend has got caught up in the ‘covid isn’t real’ party and I’m a sheeple and won’t see the truth blah blah.

I’m not getting into a big fight with my friend but she’s well and truly fallen down the conspiracy theory well.

Do you know anyone who realised and came ‘back’? Or is she gone forever?

This is an intelligent (I thought) professional who seems to have become unrecognisable over the last 4/5 years.

It’s very sad 😔

YABU - lots of people wake up from this crap

YANBU - she’s gone forever I’m afraid

@nickelbabe

Yes, you have the history that you can look back on and see that this person won't be too much of a loss to yiu.

I'm sorry you had a shit upbringing. Sad

Thank you. It was shit, but not all the time, thankfully! And the shit is what made me who I am today, for worse and better :)

My DB is bipolar. When he is in the early stages of a manic episode, he develops conspiracy theories that progressively become less and less plausible. But I wouldn't really count him as a conspiracy theorist, just someone with MH problems.

I'm not so sure about my DSS. He's a Covid denier, and thinks it's all a complex ruse to make money for Big Pharma. He has never observed any of the lockdowns and refused to self-isolate when his HCP lodger, who had no symptoms, tested positive. Needless to say, he won't countenance having the vaccination, despite having T1 diabetes and therefore being more at risk of becoming severely unwell if he gets Covid.

His father, my DP, was pretty ill last March/April. I was less ill, and lost my sense of smell and taste for a while, so we think it was probably Covid (tests were only being done in hospital settings back then). DP never fully recovered and died very suddenly of a coronary thrombosis 6 months later.

DSS refuses to countenance the possibility that DP had Covid or that his illness was connected in any way to his death, because "Covid only affects old people who are going to die anyway". But, according to him, the death of a friend who had a fatal pulmonary embolism a few weeks after his second Covid vaccination, is proof that vaccination is dangerous.

We have now put the whole topic in the box of "Things That We Don't Talk About". And he wears a mask and stays 2m away if he has to come into the house for any reason when he comes to cut my hedge or do other jobs in the garden.

My bil is a COVID denier and he has convinced my mil that she doesn’t need the vaccination. She is 78 with a lung condition and a history of heart attacks.
