To worry about airplane noise in Fulham?

I know Fulham is a great area but could someone who live there come and talk to me about airplane noise please?? I spoke to a few friends and their views range from “barely/not noticeable” to “unbearable, had to move because of that”. Visit to the area did not help either as there are no planes at the moment! I am particularly interested in Fulham Broadway area, so basically a few streets between Kings and and Fulham rd. Please help!!

@SaturdayRocks

The things people fixate on. And then just have to have the last word over. Grin 😂

Anyway - Fulham Rd noisy. Other roads not necessarily so much. Double glazing matters. IME, anyway!

Wasn't there question about the flight path, not the road? GrinWinkSmile

Indeed it was - see my earlier post, I was just recapping to try to get it back on topic.

@tootiredx1000 i worry because we currently live on a very quiet side street in Chelsea and no, I have not heard an airplane in 15 years that we've been here.

@namechange34, can i pls ask you what area in Fulham you lived in? Seems the areas close to the river/Parsons Green are worst affected.

I don't live in Fulham, but have worked there for 23 years - I'm based near FFC / the alphabet streets. I can honestly say I stopped noticing the aircraft noise very quickly. Initially though, yes it was noisy. I think you just tune it out after a while. Trying to park when Fulham are playing at home - that's another story!!

Thanks @Creamcrackersandricecakes- where is alphabet street pls? Goigle says it is an hour drive so assume there is a mistake ;))? Point re parking taken, thank you!!!

@Paribus - sorry should have specified, the alphabet streets run off of the Fulham Palace Rd, down to Bishops Park. They're so named as they run alphabetically, starting with Bishops Park Road, Cloncurry St, Doneraile St etc.

Interesting. Everyone I speak to has hugely varying opinions so it's hard to know what would bother OP.

Living in Fulham the aeroplane noise would be the least of your worries with continuous non stop traffic day and night, noisy motorcycle couriers, police, ambulances from the hospitals (Chelsea and West and CC) and the football crowds when Chelsea or Fulham at home.
You get used to noise when you live in a noise area.
Lived in Chelsea my entire life - now live in quiet house in Surrey- have to put TV on on a timer to go to sleep!

I have moved several times due to noise sensitivity. Lived SW6 5TB - very loud planes directly overhead, moved to Imperial Wharf area to find just as bad. Now live in Hammersmith near King Street end and can still hear loud planes which are flying I believe alongside Charing Cross Hospital (have heard them inside the hospital on one side), over Fulham Palace Road. Planes have recently got much louder and with windows open, although some distance, there is very loud noise and vibrations from them passing. I can say from friends and others, that noise does not affect everyone the same - I hear lower pitches more loudly, some hear higher pitches. Live in Fulham for over a year, liked Fulham and would have stayed but the noise was totally unbearable to me. The planes started at 4.30am and went on for most of the day. I think some streets do not get the noise as loud. Hakan has a flight path checker but I did not always find this accurate as it did not show noise over Hammersmith which there is in some parts! The new flight paths were going to increase in areas right over to Shepherds Bush. Going the other way Wandsworth, Richmond, Parsons Green, Chiswick etc all have noisy flight paths over. I would try to visit properties in the area on weeks when flight paths are at their noisiest or sit in a local path with flight paths over to see how low they fly and how loud they are. Asking others may not help as different people hear the noise differently. I did not and still cannot get used to the noise! My family members differ with one not being bothered by it (hates traffic noise more) and another hating it as much as I do. I hope this helps anyone who is affected by plane noise - and bear in mind train/tube noise can be as bad, though I have been in two properties right alongside the tube - one extremely noisy and one where you could hardly hear it - so you really need to ensure you see any property when inside and when planes flying overhead/trains passing by.
