School refusing to give antibiotics

My daughter has warts on her arm that have become infected. She has been prescribed antibiotics four times a day in liquid form that have to be kept in fridge. She has one dose upon wakening but needs 2 more doses throughout school day. I work so can't get to school to give it, theres no one else. School are refusing to give it, I've said I'll keep her off then so I can administer ( taking time off work,), they say I'll get a fine for absence. What the heck am I supposed to do? Please advise.

@Slayerofmyth - schools don’t issue fines, Local Authorities decide whether or not to do that.

Cheeserton · 25/04/2021 17:48

So maybe the school shouldn't be saying it? Particularly for something like this, and in their circumstances. Nasty.

Sirzy · 25/04/2021 17:50

I don’t get why you waited two days to start the antibiotics? Surely starting what you had would have made most sense and then walking from that.

All schools are different with different set ups so they won’t all be able to offer exactly the same. Especially at the moment things are going to be different depending on set up

The school 💯 shouldn’t be saying it...it’s wrong! However, ofsted judge schools on attendance and perhaps this to them wouldn’t have been a valid reason for the child to be off. If I were the OP I would have kept quiet about the potentiality of an absence but hindsight is a wonderful thing :)

Because I had to wait to get another prescription from a Dr and because it came late I had to wait another day for the antibiotic to come in as we didn't have it in stock.....that's why.....Smile

But you already had the original one so could have stated that while waiting surely?

Doesn't work like that with antibiotics. There was no point continuing to use the Flucloxacillen which I couldn't administer properly due to being AT WORK.....

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat no I haven’t, I didn’t have time. I was quickly offering a suggestion for her original question. Does it really matter??

Well, at the risk of being told off by another poster for being too harsh, if you don't read the OP's updates then it's possible your comment will be pointless and unhelpful....

SuperMonkeys · 25/04/2021 22:51

You can't start one antibiotic and then not finish the course. Long term can cause massive issues with antibiotic resistance, there have been numerous campaigns about it. Once you start, you must finish. OP was very sensible to wait for one that could be taken in its entirety, and as instructed.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 26/04/2021 02:15

Well done on changing prescription to more practical one!

Reading your post, OP, made me so sad for you and your DD...someone at the school could have offered some suggestions as to how to handle the medication issue for DD as I'm sure the situation has come up before...as our teachers used to tell us all the time.." put on your thinking cap and figure out how to problem solve" ...Of course it's not the staffs responsibility, but I think they could have been a bit more caring and helpful instead of just leaving you with 2 unacceptable options and then threatening you with a fine. Have they never heard of compassion?
And the changing for PE is TOTALLY unacceptable! I developed early and I didn't even like to change in front of the girls...much less the boys! The stress of that situation must be almost unbearable for your DD...
and no sanitary bins available? Inexcusable, also. I have read on mn before that girls who got their periods earlier were allowed to use one of the staff restrooms.
Why is this school being so uncaring? I know the staff has been under tremendous stress with the covid19 virus and school closings. I really don't see how they've all coped to be honest.
But your DD has been stressed also and surely someone around her school can muster up some empathy for a child in need.

I'm hoping the infection has subsided...it did look rather inflamed in the photo you posted.

@Slayerofmyth

Aww, you're welcome...I meant every word and I'm glad my post brought you a bit of cheer
I have a DD who is an adult now and she remembers every time that I stood up for her in situations like these and has thanked me for taking up for her.
You sound like a wonderful mum ...it is so hard.. especially being a single mom....but you are accomplishing it, eventhough the school isn't helping much...you are also being a good example for your DD.

I cant even imagine the heartache of having your own mum suffering with dementia...you have so much stress on you right not, but you are getting through it one day at a time..keep taking those days minute by minute...one foot in front of the other....things will get better.Flowers

And make those reports to the agencies you mentioned...what the school is doing isn't right!Hmm
