I was wondering today whether GPs see other GPs if they are ill? Can anyone tell me? I'm assuming yes as they wouldn't be allowed to prescribe medications for themselves?

What other random things have you always wondered/wanted to know?

My partner is colourblind but says he can see / acknowledge certain colours (as is the case for most colourblind people) and it fascinates me that is the case! Had no clue until I knew him - I think I genuinely believed the world would be black and white for a colourblind person!

My ex had issues with colours. He couldn't distinguish between red and green and it would make him feel headachey if the two were together so for example he'd struggle to watch Manchester United football games because of the red shirts on a green pitch.

Thanks so much for all the answers on this thread I've learnt so much. Definitely going to ace the next pub quiz Grin

Coincidences... when is a coincidence just a random event and when is it beyond weird? Is there something going on, is there any meaning?
Yesterday I had to visit A and E for myself. I saw someone I knew, with his daughter who was getting x-rayed for a sports injury. The weird thing is, about two years ago, I visited A and E with my daughter who had an injury and saw exactly the same man with another daughter who also had an injury. I don’t go to A and E often and I don’t suppose he does either. He’s a GP, so it would be strange if he did!! What are the chances of bumping into the same person in a place you both go to very rarely, twice? Slim I’m sure!
A few months ago, I was talking to the same man’s wife about how my other daughter has been diagnosed with a fairly rare autoimmune condition. Most GPs haven’t seen a case. It turns out their third daughter has also been diagnosed with the same condition. All these medical connections, just pure chance I guess, but still seems really odd.

Well I'm glad we've sold the mooncup issue. But now I feel a bit weird about someone rummaging up there to check, they're quite hard to get out too!

Squeejit · 20/04/2021 07:37

When you lose weight, where does it go? I’ve recently lost a stone, but what happened to the fat that was on my body before?

Frazzledd · 20/04/2021 07:37

Who is listening/watching us and how much do they know (Alexa, I'm looking at you....)!

Also, how can my phone seemingly now read my mind!? This has happened more than once, but example, I've just caught up on this thread from last night, @MintyMabel commented a few times on a particular question I thought was interesting, a few pages in an advert for 'the Royal MINT' popped up....?

I also said outloud (not typed) 'ooooo, interesting!' on another thread, then an advert for an 'Oodie'....I discussed a holiday with DH to a certain place the other day, an advert for holidays to that place popped up 5 minutes later when I picked up my phone...I hadn't even googled it yet!

Are there 'men in black' style bunkers out there!? If so, how do you apply??

(Btw, did she really get the door wrong in Labyrinth!!?? @MindGrapes....its my mission to now get to the bottom of this, 30 years of trying!)

Tiggeri · 20/04/2021 07:37

That's a good one! I assume it gets shat out. But that doesn't seem right
Whanganui · 20/04/2021 07:41

Why on TV when someone is being suffocated with a plastic bag on their head do they not think to get their finger & poke a hole in the bag? That is the ones without their hands tied.

speakout · 20/04/2021 07:42

Fat gets broken down and is exhaled ( CO2) and peed out ( H2O)

FrozenVag · 20/04/2021 07:45

@Squeejit

You breathe/ wee it out, it breaks down into co2 and h20 mainly

Frazzledd · 20/04/2021 07:47

Easiest way to explain that is your body eats it, so you do excrete it the same way you do food. Think of fat as unused calories (not burned off), so when you reduced your calorie intake the excess fat is used like fuel.
Havisham · 20/04/2021 07:48

They keep it back an extra day at the sorting office.

The 2nd class post, I meant.

On the subject of dreams, I often wonder how on earth I've managed to create such dreams, sometimes they are so in-depth and imaginative I am really surprised by them because there's just no way I could ever come up with something like that when conscious and I think where on earth did that creativity come from?!

amigababy · 20/04/2021 07:56

What would the world be like if no one committed any crime?

Would we just have a few police officers to deal with accidents etc.? Would all the prison officers be out of work ( eventually)? And judiciary? Would we watch old crime dramas as a kind of historical thing?

bonbonours · 20/04/2021 08:03

@Rosewood017

If deaf people all over the world speak the same sign language
@Rosewood017 I know this one and the answer is no. Even apart from countries that don't speak English, even British Sign Language and American Sign Language are very very different. And their grammar is different from English eg instead of saying I like apples you say apples I like in BSL. I remember thinking, it would be better if all the deaf people used the same sign language but I suppose that's like saying all the people everywhere should use the same language.

@Doxie8

I'm a total introvert and used to be very shy. I've always wanted to know what it's like to be an extrovert, be able to talk to anyone, be so self assured.
Doxie8.. Not much fun being an extrovert either I can tell you! Nobody seems to criticize the quiet ones..Have you ever been told to shut up and let someone else talk? (This was during a particularly painful course where NOBODY else was answering any of the questions so I thought I'd hurry it along! It was embarrassing .It was a refresher course so everybody there should have known the answers. Probably wrong but OMG it was dragging. So yes I was the annoying Gobs**te.) In later life I've come to terms with it but it's not easy realizing that people don't like you because you 'seem' confident..I'm probably just as insecure as you, just talk A LOT! Double whammy in that I'm 6ft and curvy and have been told often that I come across as intimidating..Sigh.. I dream of being dainty and quiet..

Can a fly swim?

Rosewood017 · 20/04/2021 08:20

@bonbonours ah wow thanks that's so interesting! Was watching the film Sound of Metal on Amazon and it got me thinking

Marylou62 · 20/04/2021 08:20

@Thewolvesarerunningagain

How do they make Maltesers perfectly round?
Ooh! Ooh I know this one! In my excitement I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if someone else has answered it. I saw it on a 'How do they do that' programme. basically the round honeycomb pieces get put in a giant drum like a washing machine and then as they slowly tumble they are sprayed with chocolate!
hopeishere · 20/04/2021 08:23

@Advic3Pl3as3

1. How do women with really long fingernails put in/take out their tampons? Don’t the long nails make it really awkward?
 1. If you’re injured/unwell and unconscious and you wear contact lenses do the A&E check whether you’ve got lenses in and take them out?
I can answer the second! Yes!!

When I was knocked down mine were taken out and I got given them back in things like test tubes. I think they have a wee suction thing to take them out.

ChrissyPlummer · 20/04/2021 08:25

Not as deep as some but I’ve always wanted to know the name of the hymn in the ‘Well Catered Funeral’ episode of ‘Open All Hours’. Have asked a few people and no one knows it.

I’ve never understood the door riddle thing either.

@Winterfellismyhome

When singers record music videos, do they sing or lip sync
I've been involved in a couple and it's been lip-synced to the recording both times (singers and instrumentalists).
Angrypregnantlady · 20/04/2021 08:30

@Graphista
It's really hard to explain my relationship with pain and touch, they're two seperate but intermingled sensations. I have a super high pain threshold, I enjoy pain, I do kick boxing and can take more than anyone. But touch, I find painful, if we're sat on a bus and your knee is touching mine, I find it unbearable, kick me in the shin I laugh.

Marylou62 · 20/04/2021 08:32
@Doxie8
I think I would class myself as an extrovert. I think partly it's a natural need/urge to talk, to be inquisitive and excited about meeting new people.
I've always been chatty even as a child and would often get told off at school for talking.

Sometimes most of the time it's done instinctively as a reaction to being around people and for me it serves 2 purposes and used to serve 1 other
A. I hate akward silence
B. The feeling I get from talking with others( regardless if I know them) is pleasant/uplifting
C. Which no longer applies- I was a people pleaser, so I wanted to be liked and scared of being disliked so showing my vibrant and chatty personality was my attempt to get people to like me (which can actually be off putting for some people).

I have suffered with social anxiety because sometimes I worried about wether I dominated the conversation, came across too brash etc..and this made me feel so depressed.

But tbh, often, it's a case of fake it till you make it. So even though I might internally be anxious about talking to certain people or in certain situations, my pride would never let me show it.
And once the ice is broken people are generally very nice and quite interesting.
I think it helps to be non-judgemental of others, to be interested and open to hearing other's pov, to be empathic and in tune to peoples body language so you know where their boundaries are, to have a sense of humour and to not take everything personally - a lesson learned the hard way.
You have summed up my exact feelings Galaxy..Thank you.
