No. I'll probably be clearing the lake of duckweed.

skeggycaggy · 17/04/2021 10:00

No. If i was at work or somewhere I would politely down tools & think about my grandparents for a minute, but won’t be taking time out of my day today. Not interested in the Royal family, won’t watch the funeral.

Chocoqueen · 17/04/2021 10:01

Yes. My plans today have been canceled so I'll be home and will watch the funeral on TV so will observe the silence beforehand.

MinnieMountain · 17/04/2021 10:02

No. Why would I?

Theglassmakerofmurano · 17/04/2021 10:03

Absolutely not. Old people die. He had a long and purposeful life. It’s obviously sad for the queen but I don’t know her so won’t be getting hysterical about it. I feel sympathy for anyone losing a loved one but I don’t see what a minute of silence will do.

devastating · 17/04/2021 10:05

No.

So many really sad and tragic things happening every day, and this is not one of them. He was someone’s father and grandfather, so on that human level of course his family are sad. My Dad is 82 and if/when he dies before me I will be devastated. I imagine that PP’s family feel the same, but IMO that’s all there is to it and it isn’t on my radar.

Why would people observe this silence? Genuine question.

FuckyouCovid21 · 17/04/2021 10:05

Nope

maddiemookins16mum · 17/04/2021 10:06

No, but I am watching it.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/04/2021 10:07

The pub will hold a minutes silence.

ALL pubs will be holding a minute’s silence??

CeibaTree · 17/04/2021 10:08

Err nope I wouldn't dream of holding a minute's silence for a 99 year old man who I've never met. A minute's silence on 11/11 is very important for people to observe but not for this.

AWamBamBoom · 17/04/2021 10:09

Yes, I will

Noauthorityhere · 17/04/2021 10:09

Between my mother and my toddler there will be no minute of silence here. But I will watch the funeral later on my own in the quiet

SpiceRat · 17/04/2021 10:10

No. I didn’t even know there was one today tbh. I didn’t even know the funeral was today, I’m not interested in it at all.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 17/04/2021 10:10

Will
I
Fuck.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/04/2021 10:10

No. No royal observed a minutes silence for my parents, so nah. No ta.

We are sorting out my mother's effects this weekend. No lackey, you see.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2021 10:12

Depends where I am. Most shops are going to do it and the staff will stop so if I’m in a shop I would look a bit Hmm if I just carried on.

Shmithecat2 · 17/04/2021 10:13

I will.

teenagetantrums · 17/04/2021 10:13

My DP wants to watch the funeral and as we both off for once on a Saturday we probably will observe it.
I know he was an old man and I'm in no way a royalist but l do feel sorry for the queen.

Frownette · 17/04/2021 10:14

@PLAYJAJADINGDONG

Will I Fuck.
Grin

Aw I'm sorry @FlibbertyGiblets. I'll be your lackey today and think of your mother during the minute.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 10:14

@ShirleyPhallus I assume a pub or anywhere that has the tv/radio on in the background would probably observe it

FlattestWhite · 17/04/2021 10:15

Not particularly. If I am out and the shop/cafe etc is doing it, then yes, of course I would go along with it and not disturb anyone.

Likely I'll be at home alone, so probably will be silent but not 'observing' it. I might watch a bit of the lead up to the funeral on TV as I'm interested in the protocol and organisation of things like that, it's a bit of a spectacle, but the service itself, probably not, as I would hate to be watched at a funeral myself, and feel sorry for them that they don't get to.

Oblomov21 · 17/04/2021 10:15

No.
Not interested.

grumpygiraffe · 17/04/2021 10:16

Of course not. I will however be cursing at 3pm when I want to watch some sport and there’s nothing on.

TheWaif · 17/04/2021 10:16

There's a good chance I might accidentally if I don't happen to be in conversation with DD at the time.

peak2021 · 17/04/2021 10:16

Yes as I will be watching. A friend's brother is taking part.
