Neice's little one is a year old soon. Stumped about what birthday present to get for him. Budget about £20. Although I have DC, can't remember what they enjoyed at that age.
Thanks in advance!

My son got two rubbish trucks for his 1st birthday which he still plays with a year later. They're both quite simple, one more a recycling truck and one that came with two bins and a driver but all very simple shapes with simple bits that lift up.

Isaidnope · 16/04/2021 17:50

Wooden toys and books are always a hit. Mine all loved wooden stacking blocks at one.

Mamibaer · 16/04/2021 17:52

Can never go wrong with books - something like lift the flaps. Or musical instruments - my DS was bought a really cool set of toy bongos that play songs.

EscapeDragon · 16/04/2021 17:52

Bath toys and one of those hooded towels.

Happyland figures/sets are usually a good shout in my experience.

Bogoroditse · 16/04/2021 17:56

My 1 year old is currently enjoying pull along toys, the Galt wooden pop up people (Google Galt pop up toy) and Tomy Hide and Squeak Eggs.

Blindstupid · 16/04/2021 17:56

My dsis bought my son a lovely chunky push along car, tied balloons to it ... he literally just played with the balloons for hours! I like the bath toys and hooded towel idea.

coodawoodashooda · 16/04/2021 17:57

Bubble machine

Camomila · 16/04/2021 17:57

My one year old really likes board books and shape sorting/stacking puzzles.

There were some nice wooden baby/toddler puzzles in lidl last week.

DonLewis · 16/04/2021 17:57

Bath toys get my vote here. It means they don't take up any more room, you can throw away the old manky ones, and all kids love Bath toys.

Mega blokes

A day trip to a local farm or something either you take her as a treat or pay for mummy 'daddy 1yr old. Thats prob around 20?

DonLewis · 16/04/2021 17:59

Or a terrmundi. Everytime you see her, you put a £2 piece in. By the time it's full there will be 400, maybe 500 quid in there!

BluntlySpoken · 16/04/2021 17:59

Ffs block's Not blokes!

idontlikealdi · 16/04/2021 18:00

Tomy eggs. Mine loved them, I hated looking for all the bloody pieces every evening.

SolarLightxoxo · 16/04/2021 18:01

Gosh, didn't expect do many replies. Thanks so much! Off to Google suppliers.

Tomy eggs, shape sorter, stacking cups (also good for the bath), anything pull or push along, toy post box or click clack cars on a track (ELC do a nice version of the last two).

Sh05 · 16/04/2021 18:39

A magnetic drawing board thing. Can't remember what is called but that's been a hit with each of my children and niece.
Julia Donaldson books are also something my 18 month old enjoys being read to her. I often catch her turning the pages and babbling along by herself with the odd correct word inserted so she sounds like she really reading

Phineyj · 16/04/2021 18:42

Don't get bath toys! We got 6 sets for DD's 1st birthday as it's what everyone thinks of. You can't have too many towels though.

GeorgesGreenDinosaur · 16/04/2021 18:46

Bubble machine
Toy cars/ trucks
Wooden blocks
Wooden musical instruments
Books
Stickle bricks
Sand and water pit
My daughter had something similar to this and was obsessed with it www.argos.co.uk/product/8869755

There was a particular wooden bus with removable peg shaped people my son adored at this age. Of course it'll say not suitable for under 3 years probably. This isn't quite the same but is under £20.

DS loves the recycling / bin truck at the childminders. He has played with it every day he’s there for the last year. He also adores the Green Toys Car Ferry for the bath, it comes with two cars. He also got this pop up fire engine toy for his first birthday and it was probably his favourite for a few months (the recycling truck and car ferry definitely have more longevity though). www.tickety-boo.co.uk/acatalog/Pop-Up-Fire-Truck-by-New-Classic-Toys-5040.html

Megabloks

Mollymopple · 16/04/2021 21:30

Instruments- shakers, drum, tambourine. Always popular with little ones

ivfbabymomma1 · 16/04/2021 21:31
