Husband snored for years
I resent it so much. Kept me awake for years. It's isolating and stressful being awake in the night.

Realised the other week if I let him snore it out instead of waking him every couple of minutes after about 5 -10 Mins the snoring stops!!!

I have tried it for about a week now just over. It honestly works.

Are you going to try it tonight?

My solution was DH taking a job which means he's away Monday-Friday.
Although unfortunately for him he also sleepwalks and has woken up in many hotel corridors Grin

I use the Howard Leight airsoft uncorded ear plugs which are the best I’ve found available (I believe they’re for builders...!) - used to be on Amazon but here’s an eBay link. Still hear the alarm in the morning but blocks out a lot (not all) of the snoring. I trim the ends so I can sleep on my side. 100% recommend!

Separate rooms. Sleep deprivation while someone else lies there snoring away is horrendous.

EspressoExpresso · 15/04/2021 11:01

I was so sure the answer was going to be murder Sad

TurquoiseDragon · 15/04/2021 11:24

@BanditoShipman

For those of you using earplugs, how do you then hear the alarm to get up?
I'm partly deaf, and find a smartwatch vibrating on my wrist the best alarm ever.
Ffsffsffsffsffs · 15/04/2021 11:50

Mine cost a couple of grand but has completely cured the snoring. Absolute 100%

I divorced him.

Never ever again will I let someone disturb my sleep (and refuse to do anything about it - loose weight, stop drinking, exercise, see the GP etc - I finally saw the light when he told me to 'shut the fuck up and if you don't like it YOU can go sleep in the bath'.

Perhaps it was the snoring that was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back...

fluffythedragonslayer · 15/04/2021 12:04

No, that doesn't work. I've sat in bed on my ipad while my husband snores for hours.

Cocomarine · 15/04/2021 12:14

I’ve found ear plugs that reduce the noise... the damn vibrations still wake me though! 😫

BrumBoo · 15/04/2021 12:16

Yeah, doesn't work. My husband has issues with his nasal passage/breathing in general (undiagnosed, but no one should be mouth breathing whilst fucking eating toast withoutthere being an underlying issue). I cannot share a bedroom with him, I have had enough broken sleep from feeding and dealing with small children for the past 6 years without listening to him doing his fucking elephant impressions on top.

Yes, the refusal to do something about it fucks me off big time. Like he enjoys the excuse of 'not being able to help it', or thinks there's no problem at all because he can't hear his snoring (or mouth breathing in general). Not a single care about the damage it's doing to his health or the fact he can go to sleep at 10pm and still not get up in the mornings because of the shit quality of sleep he gets by not being able to breathe. He doesn't wake up, so there's no problem, right?

Snoring destroyed relationships.

TurtleCavalryIsSeriousShit · 15/04/2021 12:25

I can sleep next to the dog that snores, no problem. But not next to DH.

The dog snores rhythmically... I can go with that.

DH is more like an irregular engine, sucking, puffing, snoring, puffing, snorting, sucking ..... fucking breathing. There is no rhythm to it.

PiggyPlumPie · 15/04/2021 12:29

If I tell my DH to shush, he tends to stop snoring.

Sometimes he starts snoring while I'm still reading so I tell him to shush and he apologised and says he thought he was still awake! Confused

Dandelionsandskylarks · 15/04/2021 12:49

DH has sleep apnoea so this would never work!

BagORats · 15/04/2021 13:01

Mine got a cpap machine and it's transformed my life. I can sleep all night now

Home bargains do some silicone earplugs that I used before, they're about 1.99 reusable for a couple of times. You can still hear but it massively reduces the sound

gollymissdolly · 15/04/2021 13:13

It doesn't matter what position my DH sleeps in ,he still snores. I'm convinced if he could sleep standing on his head he would still sound like he was gargling with gravel.
I find that a sharp tug on his pillow will resolve it if only for a short time.

stylemeplease · 15/04/2021 14:56

Sorry girls!!
I think that is made a huge difference psychologically to know ten mins then the bastard is quiet

I don't want separate room because the mo fo will take the master bed!!!

OP posts:
stylemeplease · 15/04/2021 14:57

But girls doesn't the elbow just make them snore again in a couple of
Minutes

My husband finally stopped

Hes a bit large but not enormous, 34 waist??

He's a smoker though as well which as an ex smoker to me he hums

PurpleSplodge · 15/04/2021 15:05

@EspressoExpresso I think you've hit the nail on the head Grin

My husband snores like a fog horn. The vibrations keep me awake even though he is muffled with earplugs. Also they hurt my poor little delicate ears. He is not over weight in the slightest (bastard)

I feel the only reasonable answer is to invest in a new patio. Or get to sleep before he starts. The elbowing only works for a short time and then he starts again.

bubblebath62636 · 15/04/2021 15:28

I'm a snorer, dp wears earplugs when I'm particularly bad 😳.

Snoring sprays help a little. He also goes to sleep before me so I don't wake him

Cherryonthetop2019 · 15/04/2021 16:18

After manny years of disturbed sleep I made H an appointment to see a specialist. He was diagnosed with sleep apnoea and now has a cpap machine. Problem solved at long last!!

BoomBoomsCousin · 15/04/2021 16:39

Mine definitely doesn't stop after 10 mins.

I've found that if I put a hand on his skin on his back (has to be direct skin to skin contact, doesn't work through even a thin layer of cotton) he stops for a while, normally long enough for me to get to sleep.

That's enough at the moment. When it's been worse separate bedrooms were vital for getting sleep but I think they affected our intimacy badly. Necessary at the time but not a preferred solution.

user1471462428 · 15/04/2021 16:46

Can I just scream into a void that bloody sleep apnea isn’t always due to being obese or male..... I’ve seen 7 stone 80 year old patients diagnosed. If you love your partner please stop joking about it on Mumsnet and get them a test. You might just save their life.

Umbivalent · 15/04/2021 16:47

Nope, doesn't work here.

Sudafed helps though.

PickAChew · 15/04/2021 16:51

I find that a good sharp kick and an order to turn over does the trick. DH snores like a tractor when he lays on his back.

Turns out that I do when I've taken a higher dose of amitriptyline, too.

MargaretThursday · 15/04/2021 16:53

Quick jab in the rib is quite effective.
