Ha ha 😂 this has made me laugh. I often travel with 2 young children so maybe that affects it. But I always say please and thank you and get the kids too.

I would understand comments about behaviour, but the whole concept is ridiculous.

If they wait, you pay for the waiting time same as if they are driving.

Being marked down for not chatting or not tipping? That's not acceptable.

KVIIIlyne · 15/04/2021 10:27

Making them pick you up on a busy road where it is difficult to stop

god forbid paid clients have to live or work on a busy road Hmm

I don't know if thats the case though - normally you receive the price when you book the journey. Also you can see the car on its route to you so there is no real reason to be late (except for once when I was waiting in the car park and he was waiting at the bus stop 20m away). I wasnt charge extra for the 3 minute or so delay it took to sort that confusion out...
HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 15/04/2021 10:38

I was incredibly offended when I realised a driver had scored me a 1. I then read that it was some kind of protest from London Uber drivers and felt a bit better.

Back up to 4.88 now...

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 15/04/2021 10:39

Btw they can't see if you tipped or not until after they've rated you, so you won't be scored low for that.

SuitableJobForaWoman · 15/04/2021 10:47

@Greenbks

They can rate you for things like banging the doors too hard, keeping them waiting unnecessarily, being drunk and behaving badly.. carrying items in the car that are smelly/dirty etc.

Mine is a 4.81- pretty sure it dropped that low bcos I wasn’t tipping as much as they wanted to. Usually it’s between 10-15% but I suspect some want more.

Tipping wouldn’t be entirely responsible for it. I very rarely tip and have retained a 5.

I normally ask about the driver’s day and chat briefly, if I sense they are happy to continue the conversation, then about half the rides, we end up having what is usually a really interesting chat and and I’m sometimes surprised we have arrived so quickly and am disappointed to be cut off mid conversation. I love the differences in cultural backgrounds.

I think if people sense you are interested in their experience (everyone has an interesting story to tell), and are respectful and pleased to meet them, it’s very hard for anyone to give you a lower mark, tip or no tip.

The chats are because I enjoy them, not because I am concerned about my score. I have a friend who always reminds me to chat nicely with the driver because she wants to fix her score which had dipped after a few disputes. I think most people can tell whether someone is genuinely interested or forcing themselves to engage in small talk.

We’re all different and some suffer from social anxiety and should not be penalised for this.

I'm a 5 Halo

LBOCS2 · 15/04/2021 10:51

4.59, over well over 200 journeys. I suspect that some of it is because for a while I was travelling with small children and car seats and it did involve a bit of waiting around while I sorted those out. It's improving now this is less of an issue 😁

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 15/04/2021 10:56

Yes I think travelling solo is a different kettle of fish compared to having 2 children with you. I did have one driver get arsy with me because I wanted to go a slightly different route.

Never used Uber at all myself. I know the phone number of the local minicab offices

There's only one local minicab office to me, and I do use it. But I'm not always at home when I need a cab...

KVIIIlyne · 15/04/2021 11:23

In normal times, the trip in a cab might be the only few minutes of peace between meetings. The last thing many people want to do is having to make small talk when they either have things to read, or just want 5 minute of silence!

NVision · 15/04/2021 11:25

I'm told a lot of the ratings is based on looks. Hot people get 5s a lot.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/04/2021 11:26

Mine is 5.00 and I use it a lot. Need to remember most drivers are just doing their job and it’s not in their interest to mark down regular passengers. If you’re polite, clean, and are considerate that should be enough.

I’m an overweight 40 yo woman who usually wears boring business formal 90% of the time. They def aren’t marking me for looks

I've only ever had 5's. There's no way that's based on looks 😂

aiwblam · 15/04/2021 11:34

Mine is 5, I’ve never had anything less than a 5. I am fat, ugly and menopausal 🤣. But I am polite!

Littleroundsponge · 15/04/2021 11:36

Just checked mine, 4.9 😆

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 15/04/2021 11:38

I'm definitely not a 4.88 on the looks scale. Grin

DrSbaitso · 15/04/2021 12:01

I had no idea this happened, never used Uber. Can't say I will now. I'll stick to booking cabs ye olde fashioned way.

To be honest, I never talk much (I am poor at small talk and socially awkward) although I do try to be polite and still have a good score. I like the theory that attractive people get good scores though so maybe thats it (it isnt).

In reality, I think that the convention for most drivers (as for passengers) is to give a 5 unless there is a reason not to. I always score a 5 for drivers. But one random 4 can obviously bring the average down - hence the variation. However, I think even a 4.something is probably not going to cause any issues for getting an Uber. If you were terrible, you would get low scores from lots of drivers and that might mean you couldnt get lifts. But to be honest, terrible passengers also get blocked by mini-cab firms and taxi companies so it isnt that different.

LeeluTheNarwhal · 15/04/2021 14:38

We don't have Uber here so I didn't realise it was a thing, interesting to read all the different things that can be seen as an annoyance that I hadn't ever considered.

To be fair I couldn't even say when I was last in any taxi, probably close to a year and a half to two years now, I tend to walk most places as we're in a good location for most places I go.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 15/04/2021 14:48

Customers and taxi drivers are now being rated? Why?

DrSbaitso · 15/04/2021 14:51

I don't mind a taxi driver reporting an abusive passenger so that the firm no longer accepts their business. Drivers shouldn't have to put up with that. But I don't like the idea of being rated every time I get in and go somewhere. Sticking with minicabs.
