DLA

Not an AIBU - just looking for quick answers! Wink

I submitted a claim for DLA for my child in a February but I have not had a letter confirming the outcome yet.

I've just found a payment for £358.20 from DLA in my account made today.

The weekly rates for children are:

Lowest £23.70
Middle £60.00
Higher £89.60

£89.60 x 4 weeks = £358.40

So that means if he has been awarded the higher rate it's 20p short. Not that I'm at all bothered by 20p, I'm just trying to work out whether he has got the higher rate, or the lowest/middle rate with a back payment? And the amount is a coincidence?!

Anyone shed any light?

Thanks!

Definitely the higher rate. The 20p glitch is odd but it will probably correct itself next time.

I'm a bit confused as to why they're awarding DLA though. I thought everyone was being moved to PIP (Personal Independence Payment.)

If it's a new claim, it very odd (IMO) that it's DLA.

rainbowthoughts · 13/04/2021 19:10

Even if you claimed at the end of feb you would be due more than 4 weeks back payment though?

DuckWithOneWing · 13/04/2021 19:10

The rates changed in April, so the 20p is probably because some was paid at the old lower rate

EpicPopcorn · 13/04/2021 19:10

That's just the care rates isn't it? There's the mobility element too to factor in.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2021 19:11

What about any possible mobility payment?

Children are still awarded DLA

No. Not children. Over 16 year old.

It's not odd, it's absolutely normal.

Children still get DLA.

OP can you phone to check? Not sure what their waiting times are like for calls at the moment. I wouldn't worry as if the payment has gone through you'll probably get a letter any day now. My sons renewal was received in February and we had a random payment from DWP last week. Then a couple of days later the award letter arrived.

strawberrryfiieldsforever · 13/04/2021 19:14

Definitely no mobility element needed.

I filled out the form printed off the gov website for child DLA and haven't had any mention of PIP! I'm new to all of this though.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2021 19:15

Did you complete all the parts?

rainbowthoughts · 13/04/2021 19:15

You did the right thing. PIP is not for children.
Travellor · 13/04/2021 19:15

Once the child turns 16 they will need to apply for PIP.

Mumofsend · 13/04/2021 19:16

You would be receiving more than 4 weeks backpay if submitted in April. Does DC have substantial night needs? If not then it definitely won't be high rate.

It works out at around 6 weeks middle rate care so it could be that.

Could be middle care, low mobility.

strawberrryfiieldsforever · 13/04/2021 19:17

I have tried to call a few times but the queue seemed to be never ending so I gave up.

Just curious if anybody had any ideas.

The payment being made before increases might be an idea!

In fact it is more than likely middle care as I forgot how far in to April we are. It won't be high rate

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2021 19:17

Yeah I thought it looks more like that

x2boys · 13/04/2021 19:18

How old is your child and were you expecting anything for mobility ?

I did wonder about middle rate with a back pay it is close.

3 years.

Definitely no need for mobility.

Mumofsend · 13/04/2021 19:19

@strawberrryfiieldsforever you would certainly have more than 4 weeks back pay so it can't be high rate

purplebagladylovesgin · 13/04/2021 19:22

This is quite normal with DLA. The first you know is when money transferred to your account. A letter usually follows within a few days.

Sounds like you've been awarded higher rate, it will be backdated to when your application was made. I always found this threw the figures out a bit.

You'll find out very soon by post.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2021 19:23

If you filled in all parts of the form mobility can be a awarded. It would be very unusual for middle rate care to be awarded without lower rate mobility unless it is a real medical based problem

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2021 19:24

Sorry that was very poorly worded

Hidinginstaircupboard · 13/04/2021 19:25

You should get a letter confirming your award and what rate they decided on. Better to wait for that as they are required to send you that letter.

It isn't possible to second guess really from a sum deposited as you won't know period it covers but if they accepted you date of application as start date you might be able to do a "working guestimate" I wouldn't count in that though.

Please make sure you use it to get any other benefits and discounts for other services that you may be entitled to as that DLA confirmation letter is GOLD!! Look it up online what else it'll entitle you too

For those asking, yes disabled benefits for children are still DLA not moved over to PIP (yet) unlike adults.

ihavethehighground · 13/04/2021 19:25

Don't forget to apply for carers allowance !

Mumofsend · 13/04/2021 19:26

@Hazelnutlatteplease 3 year olds can't get low mobility so that rules it out. Its 5 for low mobility.
