AIBU?

to ask how much you'd spend on a self-catering holiday?

Trying to see what is reasonable: If you were looking for a self-catering property in England with two bedrooms, that takes dogs if you have any, that has free wi-fi, free parking, front and back garden, and offers luxury-level amenities, how much would you be prepared to pay for seven nights in high season e.g. school holidays, Christmas, etc? Up to £500? £1,000? More?

High season, for 4 guests, popular tourist location, we'd budget circa £200 per night. Add another £100/night for Christmas/New year weeks.

@CuriousaboutSamphire
If you don't have/like dogs rent something else. But don't pretend your opinion is the only one, let alone the only right one!

Doing the maths, it means that she may appeal to less than 24% of the adult population who are dog owners. Add in a few more who may overlook the inevitable hair and dog smell, regardless of how well cleaned, that's a small pool....

£1.3k is what I'd be thinking.
I don't operate in that price bracket. But spend a lot of time getting to the price bracket I like so notice other sorts of places.

I don’t think dog hair is inevitable. I recently stayed in a seaside holiday cottage with a very high spec industrial aesthetic which I happen to know welcomes dogs because my DPs had previously stayed there with their monster, but I hadn’t known then I honestly wouldn’t have had a clue that there had ever been a dog there (right up until the moment where we left the patio doors open and the owner’s red setter came in and offered to help us eat breakfast, but that’s beside the point Grin).

I do think that minimising soft furnishings is key though.

Just paid £1300 for a 3 bed static caravan on holiday park in South Wales in school holidays for dogs also.

@SwimBaby

How far is it from the sea?

I live in a nearby town - We're 30-45mins from the Somerset beaches (Burnham, WSM), 40mins from Exmouth, about 50mins from Lyme & the Dorset beaches; & an hour from the North Devon beaches & Torbay.
It may seem to be in the middle but we have good road links - M5, A30, North Devon Link Road & Devon Expressway.

@bizzylizzy yes! With a good cleaner that's an additional 24% to your possible market.

It's not only a negative. Not as though only dog owners will stay.

Though I do appreciate that this is Mumsnet 😊

Probably £1500 I’d say. I’ve holidayed in the school holidays but we pick places in the lakes or Wales etc and we’ve always paid up to £800 for a 2 bed cottage type for atleast 5 days and includes a dog. I have one booked in 3 weeks and we’ve paid £390 for 5 days in the lakes.

Thanks. A week in high-season is £750 and quite a few people said it's cheap.

It is cheap. We once stayed in a 2 bed cottage in Cornwall for a week in August, and it was £750 for the week 12 years ago.
