to ask how much you'd spend on a self-catering holiday?

Trying to see what is reasonable: If you were looking for a self-catering property in England with two bedrooms, that takes dogs if you have any, that has free wi-fi, free parking, front and back garden, and offers luxury-level amenities, how much would you be prepared to pay for seven nights in high season e.g. school holidays, Christmas, etc? Up to £500? £1,000? More?

I paid £200 to glamp in Cornwall in august for four nights, but I booked it last year. Booked Ventnor seafront property for a week the following august for £750

LemonRoses · 13/04/2021 18:36

It would vary on season and quality of interior.
With two en-suite bedrooms, good WiFi, good beds and linen, decent kitchen etc. Assuming in village within walking distance of a decent pub meal.
I’d think in high season, maybe £1,200 - £1,400 a week.

DogsAreShit · 13/04/2021 18:36

I wouldn't consider anywhere that let dogs in to be "luxury" or "high end" material.

Babysharkdododont · 13/04/2021 18:37

I probably wouldn't want to pay more than £500 for a week near Taunton, but I would never bood a dog friendly accommodation, you'll have to weigh this up carefully as you'll alienate a lot of potential customers.

DingDongDenny · 13/04/2021 18:38

I think for that cottage you could easily ask £1,200. It's really pretty

karala · 13/04/2021 18:38

I'd pay £1000 for a dog friendly luxury place

normalsaline · 13/04/2021 18:41

I wouldn’t be booking anywhere that allowed dogs

DogsAreShit · 13/04/2021 18:43

Poor old clueless OP, suddenly realises she's 12 weeks away from peak season and doesn't have the first idea what to charge.

So she asks on Mumsnet.

Whereupon she turns into happy OP, because now she's got free advertising.

notalwaysalondoner · 13/04/2021 18:45

We get a 3 bed house literally on the beach in Cornwall for about £900 for a week, sleeps 10 (although 6 are in single beds in attic so not luxurious). But we book direct with the owners and have been going there for years, it's not available on websites.

I personally wouldn't pay more than £100-120 per night - but this year is not 'normal'.

MrsBungle · 13/04/2021 18:46

Up to £1k is what I usually pay. Not particularly luxurious places though although nice.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/04/2021 18:46

For a two bed £1200 peak. We pay circa £1600 but for five/six beds.

denverRegina · 13/04/2021 18:46

Dogs and luxury definitely don't go hand in hand!

Permitting dogs would negate my view of it containing luxury amenities.

For me, assuming the second bedroom was set up for children and not as two double bedrooms, then I would be looking at max of £600—700, given we have rented lodges with hot tubs, game rooms, multiple reception rooms and 4 bedrooms for £1100 in the same area and in school holidays.

Quit4me · 13/04/2021 18:47

Paid £1700 for 1 week in Devon (3 bedrooms though) Hot tub and very nice cottage in popular area.
1k wouldn’t get me anywhere and I booked last September!

Quit4me · 13/04/2021 18:47

Forgot to say it’s in summer school hols

Robintakeover · 13/04/2021 18:48

I’d expect to pay more than 1k high season in a good location ie sea views / walkable to beach.. maybe about £1400 - less without those incentives . I also avoid places that allow dogs ... got fleas in our carpets from an old cleaners hoover ... we were bitten to pieces .

LittleOwl153 · 13/04/2021 18:50

Get yourself on somewhere like hoseasons / air b&b and check out the competition?
A hot tub is usually a look for for us and seems to hike the prices!

Gertie75 · 13/04/2021 18:55

Inland £750 within 5 minutes walk to a beach £1000, must have parking though for me to book at all.

Scottishskifun · 13/04/2021 18:58

Places which allow dogs can be like gold dust so for everyone on MN who says they wouldn't book a place with dogs there is probably about 3 dog owners who would happily book!

For me £800 is the max I will pay for a 2 bed house as realistically you can only really accommodate 1 family or potentially 2 couples.
I don't agree with accommodation hiking their prices to astronomical levels this year either though and we have deliberately booked with places who haven't done this.

OllyBJolly · 13/04/2021 18:58

We like luxury and had a dog so we loved finding luxurious dog friendly cottages. We'd pay up to £1500 but for that we would want great location, house on its own, state of the art kitchen, open fire, top of the range linen, luxury bathrooms.

AnnieKN · 13/04/2021 18:59

We’re paying £2k for a week in Cornwall in August (luxury 2 bed self catering with two onsite pools, hot tub, playground, restaurant etc)

Profiterolegirl · 13/04/2021 19:03

We would need somewhere that took dogs. I think you'll have plenty of business from dog owners. I wouldn't want to pay more than £1000 a week.

Tal45 · 13/04/2021 19:09

That is beautiful if it's yours OP. My immediate thought was that £500 was way too low as that only works out at £70 a night. I certainly don't think £1000 is unreasonable in high season but maybe no higher because of the distance from the coast. Worth looking on airbnb to see what others are charging though.

1Morewineplease · 13/04/2021 19:11

I'd pay £1200 -£1500 but it would have to be in a very lovely location.

RampantIvy · 13/04/2021 19:14

I found this cottage, and it looks lovely. If you are the owner @NeedATan you need to make the availability calendar work. Most people need to know when they are browsing what is available. I would have just scrolled past and looked elsewhere.
