AIBU -first time using Bing, typed in "how to" - WARNING their predictive fill-in came up with suggestion about child murder [[Edited by MNHQ to add: MYSTERY SOLVED, MINECRAFT THING]]

This was the very first time I used the Bing search entry. I typed in "how to" meaning to say "how to find info on the ESA" and predictive text came up with this.

For a first time use of Bing this is awful. I'm just very glad my young kids weren't around to see this.

I have actually reported it to microsoft and their suggestion was to put "safe search" mode on. It should have been on automatically imo.

Basically this is a warning to people to be careful if they use Bing to put the Safe Search on first! (I'm not going to be changing my search engine after all)

Isn't it all to do with algorithms based on previous searches and language used on that device?

Ds was playing something online with friends yesterday and sang an actually really good song to the theme tune of sweet Caroline about killing the enemy with the guns.

I was almost impressed until I realised his bedroom window was wide open

He's 16 so not a young child but I did have to suggest he rethinks he's joyous killing the enemy songs - especially when his windows open!

Obviously the most commonly searched for terms on Bing.

I don't think it's Bing you need to be questioning here.

I put in
"How to" and got "how to draw"
"How to k" and got "how to knit"
And finally
"How to ki" and got "how to kill yourself"

Definitely something suspicious with previous use of OP computer.

Glad the mystery is solved... use a better search engine and set up a profile for kids to use thats safe... and before you warn all of Mumsnet and its resident piss takers about the awful horror that is .. whatever.. check what your kids have been looking up
