To want to faint in McDonalds?

TheLowestFlyer · 12/04/2021 12:18

DH has slowly introduced a regime of positive reinforcement that, for a wide range of reasons, means I have to take the DC to McDonalds once a month for a sit down meal. This produces a physical response in me that makes me want to, first, gag and then faint. I assume it must be the vaporised oil in the air, the terrible food odours and weird and discoloured plastic decor (and the hyperactive and frankly unappealing toddlers screaming around whenever we go?). Whatever it is, it triggers a really intense response from me and I basically dread these scheduled outings and have to choke back vomiting for the whole meal.

Unfortunately the DC have become really emotionally invested in these going to MacDonalds (to what I think is a really unhealthy level) and DH's schedule means that I am unquestionably the only one who can take then. How do I extricate myself from going to McDonalds? Has anyone else weaned their DC from depending fast food? They genuinely love it, especially the earth-killing toys they abandon minutes after leaving Sad

You don't have an autonomous parenting philosophy if one parent is making a decision that the other parent then has to carry out. So you are both being completely unreasonable - him for making a unilateral decision and expecting you to enforce, and you for being spineless. Just say no (in an autonomous fashion). He promises - he follows through.

Best parenting message my parents ever told me - don't promise your kids anything you can't deliver, don't threaten anything you don't intend to follow through.

@DustOnTheWind

How do you feel about The Sistine Chapel?
I thought of that thread as well Grin

Amazing! That and this has cheered me up no end. Tears at the laptop

@TTCat39

Funniest thing I've ever seen on here - I've never forgotten it 🤣

Aha I spat my tea out! So long since I've thought about that hilarious thread 😂
turnthebiglightoff · 13/04/2021 15:37

I had McDonald's today for my lunch. Have been strictly dieting for 3 weeks. It was fucking glorious. Thanks OP; I reckon you've boosted the mcds business with this thread.

PegLegAntoine · 13/04/2021 15:38

I'm not happy with the situation but we have an autonomous parenting philosophy

I don’t think AP means to just let kids make all decisions does it? If you have to respect their choices they have to also respect yours and they are surely capable of understanding mum isn’t happy with MD

TTCat39 · 13/04/2021 15:41

@turnthebiglightoff Had a McD's breakfast yesterday for the first time in yonks. Got my order in at 10:59

Get ice cream or something else instead? Have the McDonald's delivered via Just Eat or if that's not available do a takeaway?

Also 'regime of positive reinforcement' 😂😂😂😂 what a great way to describe a trip to McDonald's!

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 13/04/2021 15:50

Anyway, he can't take them during the week, and simply refuses to do it on the weekend.

Why don’t you simply refuse as well?

evilharpy · 13/04/2021 17:09

Oh god the Sistine Chapel, that was brilliant!

Grapewrath · 13/04/2021 17:11

Do you also scream at a picture of Rinsk McDonald

Grapewrath · 13/04/2021 17:11

Ronald!!

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 13/04/2021 17:21

😂😂😂

RampantIvy · 13/04/2021 17:21

The only histrionics seem to be in the replies here .......
so that leaves getting the DC to give it up/switch over to another less gag-inducing poison

Has anyone noticed the irony in the OP's reply here? (I have removed the middle bits).

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 13/04/2021 17:34

"Autonomous parenting philosophy"? What fresh wankery is this?

AgathaTwistie · 13/04/2021 17:50

Op could you try diving equipment to block out the smell? Are you allowed oxygen tanks in a restaurant?

Justilou1 · 13/04/2021 23:07

I think it’s where the dad “Autonomously” decides how to have the house to himself for a few hours on the weekend so he can play PlayStation or watch porn or whatever, without those annoying, whiny short people vying for his attention. Then, after he gets a couple of extra hours after the fainty one with the vapours and the short people get taken to A&E in ambulance. He can probably go down the pub with the fellas.

Mygardenisnotperfect · 13/04/2021 23:22

Thanks to PPs for linking the Sistine chapel thread, never saw it before, I am literally crying with laughter here. Also 😂 at some of the recent replies here especially Justilou1!

Thedogscollar · 14/04/2021 00:42

OP you really need to look up the meaning of autonomous.

Astella22 · 14/04/2021 00:55

YABU for allowing your DCs to become ‘emotionally invested’ in McDonalds, honestly what a load of toshHmm
