Never ever ever.

Weekends and holidays will be spent doing anything that does not involve Going For A Walk.

AIBU?

@whataboutbob

You’re very much going against current research on health and longevity here.

Genuinely interested as to why you think this. Op isn’t saying no to all exercise, just no to walking for walkings sake.
Is walking now the only exercise we are recommended to do?

I am absolutely over walks!

I am going to a cocktail bar abeit with ski wear to drink cocktails. I am going to a salon to have my hair put back together! I think pedicures are an absolute must - I have booked an outdoor theatre and a girls night making pizzas outside of course!

The walks are officially OVER!!!!!!!!!!!! Glitterball

Throw out the old rags, the muddy old boots and the musty old leggings time for a new beginning op Gin

Seriously, yeah walking round my kitchen involves walking but when I cook a roast I’m not “going for a walk” am I, any more than I’m reading a book when I examine the ingredients on a packet of sauce!
@1AngelicFruitCake. She’s nearly 17 😊. I’ve worked full time in the office throughout, my weekends have been spent doing the usual cooking, cleaning, relaxing. I do garden a lot though. But no walks (unless you count walking from the car to the butchers or chemist). We have not been for a ‘walk’ walk, never did before, see no need to now.
Do you do any exercise out of curiosity?

Oh ok 17 I can understand! 😄 I was about to be amazed that a young child never goes out and is fine with that (no tantrums!)
I’ve worked throughout as well and I agree about the catching up at weekends!

I have a dog, so I have always walked the dog every day.

But that is me, alone usually. (don't tell the family but I hate it when they join me for a walk)
dh runs, and the kids? well 3 teens and we really have not insisted on walks etc, but have encouraged and 2 of the 3 have been out 2-3 times per week with a friend. Can't say thatthey actually did exercise.

so we haven't actually in the whole of the past year done the
We Are Going For A Walk.

bloody glad too

I'm always baffled by people (able bodied people obviously) who don't walk but then I don't drive so I have always walked everywhere.

You can go to the gym and get PROPERLY fit now, with a six pack why would you wonder around walking when you can go to a dance class, or practice zen with a yoga class or swim for England at long last.

We need to use our Imagination - the sky is literally the limit. I have even booked my first flying lesson - its been on my bucket list for nearly ten years - might actually be the last thing I do but at least I don't keel over with covid. We now have the green light to live in the fast lane, and actually make those dreams happen. No excuse now.

@Thewinterofdiscontent

I haven’t been on a single walk since lockdown aside from going on a friends dog walk once.
I used to have dogs and have lived in the area for ever, so have done all the walks to death anyway .
Everywhere in my semi rural area looks like Oxford street at the moment. Everyone with a dog looks stressed as it’s impossible to walk them properly off the lead and lots of performance parenting. Grim.

What a grim outlook on life

YANBU, it’s as boring as shit even when it’s not the only activity to do, far less when it is.

Well I mean a family walk. I quite like going on my own and plodding along with my AirPods in. But I will happily never have another family walk as long as I live.

I love going for a walk. Over the last year i've found some great new routes and seen some beautiful sights, but i'm so ready for something different.

You'd rather go to soft play than go for a walk? Hmm

Each to their own. I love a good walk but appreciate not everyone does.

“One could argue you're the one with limited hobbies and interests if being locked down made no difference to you.”

I wouldn’t argue. My hobbies ARE outdoors countryside pursuits. The difference lockdown made to me was to fill up our local areas of beauty with people who drop litter and park like arseholes.

I am committed fitness freak. Running, gym, yoga.

During lockdown carried it on via online.

I have never and nor will I ever view walking as a “fitness” thing or a workout.

It’s about being with my children outside
Something free
Thinking (when I’m on my own)
And just enjoying either beautiful countryside or having a good nose at peoples houses

Obviously there are other forms of exercise but walking is easy, free and doesnt require any special equipment. Most populations with large numbers of centenarians have walking regularly and into old age as a factor.

I would rather go to soft play than go for another walk right now and I am someone who really likes walking normally.

I also like tomatoes. Tomatoes are healthy and tasty and versatile. But if I’d eaten nothing but tomatoes every meal for 12 months, I imagine I’d be pretty sick of tomatoes now as well.

OP - my apologies. It wasn’t personal to you, just what this thread made me think of. Throughout lockdown I have wished for everything to reopen so everyone would bugger off back to whatever it is they normally do for fun.

I don’t think YOU drop litter but I know that lots of people do.

I’m sorry that I was rude.

The slides, ball pit and climbing frame seem a lot more appealing than another walk.

I have such an appetite for walking now, grown out of lockdown walking. Always did a bit of short walking - a couple of miles - but love doing the longer tougher walks now. I can’t wait to go on walking holidays now. I never leave litter and love seeing families walking. And dogs. There’s plenty of countryside - having said that, as soon as you’re half a mile from a beauty spot car park it’s so much quieter. It’s made a huge difference to my health. I walk whenever I can in across the city now too.
