To think the National Rail website should not be in black and white?

The National Rail website has moved to a black and white colour scheme presumably for the next eight days.

www.nationalrail.co.uk/

I have good eyesight yet I found it really uncomfortable to use and it strained my eyes. I can only imagine it would be even harder for those with visual impairment. The website exists to provide information; it provides a service to all.

AIBU to think that National Rail should be inclusive to those with disabilities and keep the website it full colour, rather than virtue signalling?

How often and for how long are you on the website for?

Maraudery · 11/04/2021 11:19

Black and white makes it more readable for me oddly

Chanjer · 11/04/2021 11:20

Use this

traintimes.org.uk/

MaMaD1990 · 11/04/2021 11:20

It's 8 days, not forever. I wouldn't get too worked up over something so temporary - they're doing a nice thing to show respect.

Maraudery · 11/04/2021 11:21

I think often people with certain visual difficulties tend to convert colour into black and white (for the contrast) so I don't think it's any less inclusive then having a full colour website that is presumably less visible for a chunk of people too

lidoshuffle · 11/04/2021 12:13

I'd have thought black and white was more readable to many with a visual impairment?

Shitfuckcommaetc · 11/04/2021 12:15

If you have trouble in black and white text I assume you've never read a book?

murbblurb · 11/04/2021 12:18

Brilliant, much more readable. Silly pastel colours, pictures of irrelevant bimbos/himbos and stupid videos plague websites now and make them very hard to us. Black text, white background. No more.

LordEmsworth · 11/04/2021 12:20

OP hasn't explained that it's white text on a black background, which is well-known for being hard to read.

YANBU, it could have been black text on a white background and still been black & white...

EastWestWhosBest · 11/04/2021 12:21

It doesn’t both me but it seems pointless.
I notice Royal Mail hasn’t done the same. Nor Fortnum and Mason.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/04/2021 12:22

Just use the app, it’s still in colour just with a black background. Really not that big a deal

PricklesAndSpikes · 11/04/2021 12:25

I've just had a look, I think it's quite nice, actually quite easy on my eyes. Lots of people have difficulties with different colours so there will always be someone who struggles with their usual version. Since it's only for eight days, I think it's a nice gesture. Does anyone really spend that much time on the train website for it to be a problem as a one off? It's not like they are taking an exam.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 12:40

I agree. A black border and not using bright colours could have showed appreciation for the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

fizbosshoes · 11/04/2021 12:43

I cant see how keeping a useable, non offensive website in it's normal format, is somehow disrespectful?

TheQueef · 11/04/2021 12:43

It's mourning not virtue signalling.
Being a National they obviously felt obliged to take part in the official mourning.

WeekendCEO · 11/04/2021 12:45

I can read it but I don’t see how going black and white is showing respect.Confused

RunHobbitRun · 11/04/2021 12:49

Black and White makes it more inclusive for those with visual processing issues. YABU and I don't agree with the OTT "mourning"

Ilovemaisie · 11/04/2021 12:54

I didn't know National Rail had a website as they don't run the trains. If I need train information I just go to the website of the relevant train company (Southern, Chiltern, First Great Western etc).

Why is changing the colour if a website nice and how does it show respect? This shit is surreal
TheQueef · 11/04/2021 13:11

This shit is surreal

Traditional though.

When Prince Albert died, Queen Victoria decreed all the websites had their CSS tweaked to render everything in #000000.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/04/2021 14:14

I find it easier to read

BrightYellowDaffodil · 11/04/2021 14:20

You strained your eyes? How long were you using the website for?!

TheQueef · 11/04/2021 14:22

Not quite Victorian but I read somewhere that the BBC iPlayer had the feature for this eventuality built in when it was made.

If you think this is bad it will be worse when HRHerself goes.
