At what point/time do you consider loud outdoor music playing rude?

I guess I’m just trying to guess if I am a miserable hag Grin

So a house in the street behind me (not 100% sure which!) has been playing loud music in the garden since about midday. Its so loud dogs in the area have been barking pretty much continuously, including my own everytime I let her out to pee.

It doesn’t even sound like a party as I can only hear the odd voice shouting to another to bring this and that out into the garden, so in my view a waste of the good grace from direct neighbours 🤣

Am I just a miserly git for thinking its really rude for everyone to be forced to listen to shitty dance music from 2007 for almost 10 hours?? How many versions of DJ Sammy’s Heaven must I endure, because I swear I’ve heard at least 4 kinds????

I think it’s rude anytime. Different as a one off for a child’s birthday party. It’s why we have indoors and headphones.

LakieLady · 11/04/2021 09:16

@TheGumption

I'm not a good gauge on this one because I think it's rude at any time 😬
Me too! Why do people think they have the right to inflict their musical taste on others? Sheer arrogance, or they simply don't give a fuck.
FatherDickByrne · 11/04/2021 10:21

Any time.

Pugdogmom · 11/04/2021 10:33

Most of the time. If someone is having a BBQ or a party it's absolutely fine ( unless every weekend). We have done it the odd time ( like once a year), but advised our neighbours and never ever blasted our music. Helps that I hate dance music. Grin

Next door was empty for a while, and they had builders in who blasted music with windows open at 7.30 in the morning. It was summer, and drove me nuts as whilst I am an early riser, I like to sit in my garden with my morning cuppa in peace.
House is sold, and next door go to bed at 10pm, so we keep our voices quiet if we are sat out on a summer's night with a glass of wine.

Me too.

I hate it.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 10:38

I don't think you are miserable. Pity you could not identify which house it was.

What is reasonable and what is legal are two different things though.

AlwaysLatte · 11/04/2021 10:43

Anytime from me here too.

HairyFloppins · 11/04/2021 10:45

It's rude all the time. We recently moved because of the family behind all through lock down last year blasting music all day long in their bloody hot tub. They are the most selfish people I have ever encountered. They had bloody yappy dogs as well.

DinosaurDiana · 11/04/2021 10:46

On Good Friday we had the neighbours singing karaoke until 3.30am.
Unfortunately the man is the sort that’s built like a brick you-know-what and wouldn’t take kindly to being asked to keep it down 🤣

SwedishEdith · 11/04/2021 10:51

It's like people who play music loudly in cars while sitting in traffic going through a town centre - it's always shitty dance music.

I'm intrigued about who the semi-famous ex-pop star neighbour is now.

moochingtothepub · 11/04/2021 10:58

I think it's fine occasionally all day, but normally 3-4 hours in a day is more reasonable and stopping by 10/11 at night for sure. Everyone should be able to enjoy their gardens and many of us like to play music, if it were me I would simply play some of my preferred music (rock) st an equal volume whilst I was outside eg gardening

moochingtothepub · 11/04/2021 11:03

Btw to those who think it's unacceptable for you to here music from the neighbours, do you keep your children silent? It's just I'm not sure how normal volume music is any more disturbing of your peace and quiet as next doors kids on the trampoline for 6 hours! Personally I'm a live and let live person, I don't mind their noise if they don't mind mine which is music in the garden and fixing the cars and motorbikes. Gardens should be lived in in my book, I even don't mind next doors yapping dog. Accept you live with neighbours who live different lives to you

TheFairyCaravan · 11/04/2021 11:05

Our neighbours across the street started doing karaoke at 2am this morning. DH went over and told them to pack it it. Apparently they didn’t realise we could hear it! Hmm Prior to that they’d lost their dog so had been shouting for it in the road for half an hour. Bloody idiots.

Music in the garden at anytime of the day is rude.

IsadoraQuagmire · 11/04/2021 11:20

I NEVER want to hear anyone else's music, gardens should be peaceful places (don't mind hearing children playing though)

MondeoFan · 11/04/2021 11:22

My neighbours have a gym in their back garden. They have loud music on from 7am - 9am whilst using the gym.
I wouldn't mind but it kinda disturbs my morning cup of tea.
Still I'm back to work next week so won't have to listen to it everyday.

PerspicaciousGreen · 11/04/2021 11:39

@PerspicaciousGreen

Eyebrows raise after 8pm. Eyebrows turn into a firm frown after 9pm. Rage begins at 10pm. Ring the council at 11pm.
I'm surprised by all the "any time" responses. It would be different if it were every day,but I think of myself as a massive grump when it comes to this sort of thing and even I don't think I've got that much right to complain if someone has a party once in a while. Even if it's a party of one! We probably disturb our neighbours from time to time with our screaming exuberant small children. So while I might grump about it at any time, I'd only complain if it went on past our bedtime (or was every day).
Macncheeseballs · 11/04/2021 11:48

We should all try and live with as little impact on others as possible, from littering to loud music etc

MistyGreenAndBlue · 11/04/2021 12:06

Any time for me. I hate it. Thank God its snowing here atm. (No I'm not kidding)

Livpool · 11/04/2021 12:57

This only seems to be a thing on Mumsnet. In the real world it isn't that invasive. It's just some background music surely. My neighbour often has his radio on and it doesn't bother me. I just tune it out:

I can understand if the music is loud or it's played late but otherwise I can't see the problem.

safariboot · 11/04/2021 13:02

If it's so loud neighbours hear it inside with their doors and windows shut, it's too loud.

^This. Anyone making me listen to their music of any kind is a cunt.
Macncheeseballs · 11/04/2021 13:18

I listen to music in my garden, with headphones, great invention

Itstartedinbarcelona · 11/04/2021 13:22

Anytime! I use headphones too, it is basic respect for others.

MrsMackesy · 11/04/2021 13:25

Any time, unless it is a (very occasional) party - which you should have the good manners and consideration to warn your neighours about in advance.

Otherwise, only you should be able to hear your music, not your neighbours and the man in the moon, apart perhaps from very quietly in the background. Listen to your music, of course, but don't subject the rest of us to it. We will treat you with the same courtesy.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 11/04/2021 13:54

I don't understand why people play music when have a handful of people round and then have to shout to hear themselves

Outdoor music - unnecessary
