My water used to be tacked onto my rent. This has changed this year and just received the bill. No chance of a water meter to reduce the costs as its a block of flats according to them (not sure if this is true or if they are trying to pull a fast one)

£44.50 a month for two of us. My electric is cheaper than this!!

I live by the south coast and have a monthly water bill of £45.........for a single bed HA sheltered bungalow.
We pay for the tourists to have clean beaches and the extra demands they put on this area,

This is not fair!

@Canigooutyet

As promised an update So spoke to a wonderful person today and I have an appointment for someone to come out in a couple of weeks to assess my property. Was asked loads of questions Income is too much for the low household income discount.

Have registered with their priority service due to health conditions and have to send them so paperwork. As anyone knows who seen me posting or check my history, knows not only do I have pets lol, but I also have chronic kidney disease, mh, and a plethora of other illnesses. So at least I get some help if services are disrupted.

the flats management have also sent us a newsletter to say they are trying to get to the bottom of it all because as far as they are aware none of the properties have been assessed!! they had a flood of calls over the weekend about this.

thank you everyone for the amazing advice you've give me and I suggest if anyone is struggling contact their water companies to find out if they can help reduce costs and to get their property individually assessed.

Good to see you might be making progress.

Just an aside you'd posting with a different name now so it won't be obvious that you've updated - prepare for lots more posts of get a meter Grin

That's really bad and not fair.
I'm amazed how the costs vary across the country. I feel bad complaining about it on here as it seems I'm getting a bargain. Although had I not I would have just accepted the water companies no meter thing.

And I am aware that getting a meter could bite me financially becAuse of my personal usage.

£39 a month 2 adults in South West. On a meter. No bath, no dishwasher. Hot water tanks. Washing machine is on quite a bit though.

Most water companies allow you to revert to assessed/rateable value rates if you are worse off on a meter you have installed (not if you move to a property with a meter already). They want people to get meters and this is a way to get them to have one. However most people are better off on a meter, partly because they notice the amount they spend so are more careful but also because rateable value can be quite high for the number of occupants in a property.

My bill has gone up by 17% this year (not on a meter yet). It's crazy how they can charge so much more, especially in a year where incomes are generally down.

Prices are set on 5 yr periods and would have been decided in 2019.
