Cooked a leg of lamb last Sunday and as is my way I forgot about the leftovers until today. So, wise AIBU people, WWYD?

YANBU Eat it, as long as you make sure its properly heated you will be fine

YABU Chuck it out immediately and hang your head in shame at the waste

No, 5 days is too long imo. It just won't be very nice. Probably wouldn't do you any massive harm but it's definitely past its best.

pepsicolagirl · 09/04/2021 14:52

FYI and in case it makes any difference. The plan is to marinate in harissa and heat in the oven and then stuff into flatbreads with tzatziki and onion and lettuce.

I would. Microwave the shit out of it. That kills everything.

Aquamarine1029 · 09/04/2021 14:54

I wouldn't eat it after 5 days, no.

EarringsandLipstick · 09/04/2021 14:58

Yeah but it'll taste vile.
Elouera · 09/04/2021 14:58

I'd sniff it and check if it feels slimy at all- before heating it. Does seem a long time though.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2021 15:00

Yeah but it'll taste vile.

I find lamb survives the microwave better than any other meat. I think it's because it's very fatty. Lean pork would be inedible for example.

EternalOptimist7 · 09/04/2021 15:01

I wouldn’t but I do get quite anxious about things like that

sunflowersandbuttercups · 09/04/2021 15:03

No, I wouldn't. I think five days is pushing it.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/04/2021 15:03

If it looked and smelled OK and had been in the fridge, I would.

I'd slice and reheat in gravy in the oven or make biriyani. Or you could do the traditional thing with leftover lamb and make a shepherd's pie.

Weirdfan · 09/04/2021 15:04

I'm fairly lax about this stuff but no, five days is too long.

Procrastatron · 09/04/2021 15:12

Some bacteria produce toxins and in these cases it’s the toxins that make you sick. Microwaving the shit out of something may well kill the bacteria but it won’t address the toxins.
Bin it

bruce43mydog · 09/04/2021 15:14

Bin it its not worth food poisoning for a couple of quid.

Snowpaw · 09/04/2021 15:15

I think 3-4 days max is the most id go on leftover meat. I have hung my head in shame one too many times over food waste so now I try and strip any meat off bones and freeze it in bags the same day it’s cooked and life has become a lot easier.

Ninkanink · 09/04/2021 15:15

It will be absolutely fine! 3-5 days isn’t even questionable in terms of cooked meat. No wonder so much food is thrown away!

unchienandalusia · 09/04/2021 15:15

yup i'd turn it into shepherds pie. 5 days is fine imo.

Ninkanink · 09/04/2021 15:17

Also it won’t taste ‘vile’ - it will taste absolutely fine especially in the type of dish op is planning to make.

DartmoorChef · 09/04/2021 15:18

If its been in the fridge all the time it will be fine. Think of the huge joints of meat on deli counters in the supermarket. They sit there for 2 to 3 days (or more) and then you take it home with a label that says eat within 3 days...

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 09/04/2021 15:19

We’d eat it.

mrsm43s · 09/04/2021 15:29

Assuming it was fridged once cool, and remained fridged, then yes, I'd eat it. 5 days would probably be the outside edge for me, so today would probably be the last day I'd eat it.

TheMayQueen · 09/04/2021 15:32

No, I think it will have dried out after that long.

JackieTheFart · 09/04/2021 15:32

I would, but I’m sure MN would say I play fast and loose with my digestive health! Grin

hiredandsqueak · 09/04/2021 15:46

I wouldn't but I'd feed it to the dog. She's having the last of the chicken I cooked on Monday tonight.

Ninkanink · 09/04/2021 16:14

I really fancy lamb tonight now! Grin Grin

Thebookswereherfriends · 09/04/2021 16:16

If kept in the fridge, then yes, I would. Sniff test first.
