Yes! I’m so excited. I may actually get to see my parents this summer (I’m in the US).

StarCat2020 · 09/04/2021 21:26

Please don't shoot the messenger but AT PRESENT many countries are not allowing UK Citizens to enter their countries.

The US and Spain are two examples.

To be honest it seems down right dishonest for GS to talk about travel when he knows that there are very few places we can travel to.

Spain allows British people since beginning of April

@VictoriaLudorum oh FFS 🤦🏻‍♀️What a stupid comment. Also some of us here are Europeans too and want to visit families.

A lot of EU countries have already said they will allow tourists with negative tests (and vaccines) from 1st June. Italy, Spain, Greece etc desperately need tourism!

StarCat2020 · 09/04/2021 21:34

Are you sure about that?

Passenger travel from the UK to Spain is restricted to EU and Schengen associated state citizens, those who are legally resident in the EU or in Schengen associated states or those passengers who can demonstrate that their journey is essential.

Permitted reasons to enter Spain
Entry restrictions and testing requirements are currently in force for travel from the UK into Spain. Only EU and Schengen state citizens, those who are legally resident in EU and associated Schengen states or Andorra, or those who can demonstrate through documentary evidence an essential need to enter Spain, will be allowed to enter the country. Permitted circumstances include:

Habitual residents of the European Union, Schengen States, Andorra, Monaco, The Vatican (Holy See) or San Marino; who are travelling to their country of residence and can duly accredit their residence status with documentary evidence. For further information on documents accepted as proof of residence in Spain, see Additional requirements for UK nationals resident in Spain.
Holders of a long-stay visa issued by a Member State or Schengen Associated State, who are travelling onto said country.
Health professionals, including health researchers, and elderly care professionals who are going to or returning from essential work.
Transport personnel, seafarers and aeronautical personnel.
Diplomatic, consular, international organizations, military, civil protection and members of humanitarian organizations.
Students enrolled in courses starting after 1 January 2021 who carry out their studies in an EU Member or Schengen state and who have the corresponding permit or visa and medical insurance, provided that they are travelling to the country where they are studying, and that entry occurs during the academic year or 15 days previous. Students who started an on-site or in-person course in Spain prior to 1 January 2021 will not require a permit or visa to enter, but should be prepared to provide evidence of this, such as a residence document or proof of enrolment and accommodation (dated prior to 1 January 2021).
Highly skilled essential workers whose work cannot be postponed or carried out remotely, including participants in high-level sports events due to take place in Spain.
People traveling for imperative family reasons who can demonstrate an essential need to travel.
All of the circumstances above must be justified by documentary evidence.

You should be aware that you may be questioned on arrival by Spanish border authorities to ensure you meet the entry requirements. Spanish border authorities will only grant entry if they are satisfied that your journey to Spain is essential and reserve the right to deny passage.

I would love it if holidays happened this summer but I think it will be so complicated that many won’t bother. I can’t believe anything that comes out of any of the cabinets mouths. Ours is booked for June 21st rebooked from last Easter I doubt we will be going and will likely change it to next year now. The costs of tests will be prohibitive to us ( family of 6). I find the language used concerning, being told we can think about it, demonstrates how out of touch he is along with his colleagues.

News from few weeks ago

Spain lifts ban on British tourists but regional COVID restrictions remain in place over Easter

It was all over the news in Spain that people couldn’t leave their area but German or British could go and travel. What it’s preventing British going to Spain at the moment is the ban in the Uk not Spain

StarCat2020 · 09/04/2021 21:48

@EasterIssland
I have seen news articles that say it is OK too but I am not so brave as to go against the official guidance.

Then again I am probably being over cautious.

Enjoy!!

TheDogsMother · 09/04/2021 21:52

@VictoriaLudorum

Please do not come to Europe. We don't want or need you here and you have rejected us anyway. Drunks - head straight to Dubai ;-)
What an unpleasant comment
EasterIssland · 09/04/2021 21:53

It was in the Spanish media and British few weeks back. But uk bans non essential tras el tik may so it doesn’t matter whether Spain or USA are opened atm or closed.

Also Spanish tourism is mainly British , some areas are closed if British don’t go. It’d be stupid to ban the British travelling this year ... tourism in Spain has been badly affected

Meadowland · 09/04/2021 22:07

I can't see the point of going to sit on a beach wearing a mask, not being able to eat out unless you've booked, no tours or trips and having to plan every little thing. It sounds miserable

This.

Won’t holidaying in the U.K. be like this too?

Don’t think things in Cornwall will be back to normal by July.

Meme69 · 09/04/2021 22:35

I fear that Shapps and/or the rest of government have just bought cheap shares in a Travel COVID testing company... You just know that they will screw Joe Public somehow

ConstanceGracy · 09/04/2021 22:40

We have had flights to LA booked since last year and were 100 % sure they’d be cancelled so didn’t book any hotels ..until tonight!
We’ve now booked our Anaheim hotel and one for Vegas so fingers crossed we can go, I’m feeling quite positive which is not like me.
Both refundable until the day before so just to wait for a couple of places to open and then I can book the rest .

Normandy144 · 09/04/2021 22:45

Can't wait. I booked my holiday in January (complete gamble) and I will be very excited to go. I will get my vaccine and then be off!

SamW98 · 10/04/2021 11:41

As much as I love my holidays I'll wait until things are opened up a lot more before I book

I cancelled 4 trips in 2020, 1 this year which was booked in feb 2020 for feb 2021 has now rolled to feb 2022, my week in Portugal in may now rolled for a second year and I lost my holiday and money due to the problems at start of dec when Canaries introduced testing for all travellers and we were caught up in the Confirm Testing fiasco. I ended up going on watchdog but still lost my money

I'm desperate for some sun but time just isn't right
