Easter holiday term dates? Ours are ridiculous

harpygoducky · 09/04/2021 11:23

Our Easter holidays are ridiculously long. I know other private schools have shortened theirs given the amount of school kids have missed. Could I do a quick poll of dates? Ours are Thursday 25th March-Wednesday 21st April. I think school should take them back a week earlier. When do your kids go back?

26th mArch to 18th april

Xiaoxiong · 09/04/2021 13:48

My DC's school broke up on the 19th of March and goes back on the 19th of April. They do have long days though (8.30am - 5.15pm), and Saturday mornings.

flumposie · 09/04/2021 13:49

Genuine question, those adults saying holidays are too long, did you think so as a child ? Grin

fizbosshoes · 09/04/2021 13:54

I was talking to someone today who has kids in private school and their dates were similar to yours OP
Mine are in state. Both broke up on 26th March and one goes back Monday (12th) the other goes back Tues (13th)

TurquoiseDress · 09/04/2021 13:55

I think 2 weeks is perfect for the Easter holidays!

Our local state primary broke up Thurs 1st April, going back Mon 19th

The dates you quote seem excessively long for the Easter break, won't they be off on summer holidays by late June?!

Xiaoxiong · 09/04/2021 16:32

Turquoise our school has 4 weeks off now for Easter, summer term starting on 19th April half term the first week of June, and then breaks up July 10th for 8 weeks.

4PawsGood · 09/04/2021 16:36

Two weeks is usually good at Easter, but ours have only been back at school for 2 1/2 weeks (primary) and not back yet (secondary).

We have two weeks, both state and private.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 09/04/2021 16:37

Back on 20th April.

underneaththeash · 09/04/2021 16:38

DS2's are the same OP.
DS1 (state grammar) was 1st-20th and DD (private all through) 30th-19th.
The little girl playing in our garden has even longer 23rd March until 21st April

Dobbyisahouseelf · 09/04/2021 16:58

Private here so 26th March until 15th April. Although no break this year as DD is in year 13 so studying for A level mocks

raincamepouringdown · 09/04/2021 17:22

@harpygoducky

I was prepared for longer holidays in private but this feels mad
Sounds quite normal, actually. Surely you noticed the longer holiday schedules private schools operate with.
TooBored1 · 09/04/2021 17:29

I think they really need at least 2 weeks for the Easter (and Christmas) holidays. I find it takes a week for them to de-stress enough to actually rest/start to enjoy themselves so would love longer holidays!

MarshaBradyo · 09/04/2021 17:31

Back 19th April

MissyB1 · 09/04/2021 17:37

our broke up on 27th March and back on 20th April. Private school with long days and Saturday school. It will be 9 weeks off for Summer.

Lulu1919 · 09/04/2021 17:48

State school my daughter works at they broke up on Thursday April 2nd and go back Monday 19th
So two weeks
I work in independent school we broke up Friday 26 th and have three weeks

Lulu1919 · 09/04/2021 17:50

I think two weeks for state is the norm....well always had that with mine ...they are now in their late 20s

AlwaysLatte · 09/04/2021 17:53

Ours broke up 1/4 and go back 19/4.

Lassy1945 · 09/04/2021 17:53

Same here

I like. Time for them to properly chill.
School like at our private school is very very full on. The amount of sport they do is insane!

Alfaix · 09/04/2021 17:56

Private primary:
2 weeks half term October and May
Week February
2.5 weeks Christmas
2 weeks Easter
8 weeks summer
It’s a nice balance.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 09/04/2021 18:02

One week here in Canada. They had Good Friday off as a statutory holiday and then this week. They go back on Monday. Mind you, school finishes for the year at the end of June. They go back at the end of August.

Shergill15 · 09/04/2021 18:13

State primary - broke up 31st March and back 12th April.

LadyDanburysCane · 09/04/2021 18:30

Our last day of term was 31st March and we return on 19th April so two weeks and two days. 1st of April was an inset day and us staff had online training. It’s nice to have the break this year - last year we worked right through including the bank holidays (no extra pay obviously).

OPs break does seem rather long.

Pythonesque · 09/04/2021 18:57

I think 4 weeks plus at Easter is less common than 3 in privates. I wonder if some of those with the longest breaks then are choir schools - cathedral choristers have a very heavy load for a full week up to Easter Sunday and benefit from enough of a break after! Though some years they have to get their break before, when Easter falls later.

ThinkYouveHadTooMuch · 09/04/2021 19:12

Same here! Our indie broke up on the 26th March, go back on 22nd April

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 09/04/2021 19:17

3 weeks + Good Friday. They pushed the Easter break back a week as they do International Baccalaureate and the deadline dates are during easter
