I had my frozen embryo transfer for the final part of this IVF round today. I've been isolating to keep safe and make sure my body is in the best position possible to support a pregnancy.
Anyway, for tea my husband went to cook the chicken sausages he bought from Morrisons yesterday (7th April) and noticed that they went out of date on the 3rd of April! Close escape right? Wrong, because I'd already eaten some for lunch yesterday 😢when they were 4 days out of date!
I'm so fuming and worried that I'm going to get food poisoning and risk the success of the pregnancy. So I suppose I'm asking AIBU to be really angry. And if I was going to get food poisoning would I have started to feel ill already? I'm so so worried! Please advise.

@HopingForRainbow2021

Wow - some people really don’t understand how hard it is to go through IVF. I completely understand why you feel the way you do OP. You invest so much in a round of IVF, and it really takes its toll emotionally. It’s no wonder that you feel anxious about something like this. As previously stated I think you would have felt poorly by now if you were going to be - but your feelings are perfectly valid and understandable. I really hope this all goes wee for you and that you get the happiest possible outcome :) xx
Thank you for your kind words. I often wonder why some women feel the need to make other women feel stupid for having perfectly valid worries and anxieties, especially considering the heartache that can come with infertility and all the emotions that come alongside it. Nothing like kicking a woman when she's down! But thank you for your support ☺️

Yes you would definitely be I’ll by now . Also most guidance around eating during Ivf and /or early pregnancy is specifically to avoid listeria which would have showed up already

roxyfoxy89 · 08/04/2021 22:50

@Springb0ks

Thanks from a fellow IVF warrior.

Nothing that you eat/ don't eat, do/ don't do will affect your little embryo. They are safe and comfy-cosy up there. Any medical professional would tell you this.

I had a nervous breakdown following my embryo transfer and ended up medicated. I didn't eat or sleep for so long. That little embryo is lying asleep next to me now.

My fingers are crossed for you.

Thank you for your lovely message. It is such a stressful time and you don't feel yourself through a lot of it. So glad that your journey ended in success xx

Food doesn't magically go off at midnight on the date on the packet. If meat is off, it stinks. Don't stress out because that won't do you any good and is more likely to cause your IVF to fail than a bit of a dicky belly. You'll be fine if you haven't had any illness by now.

roxyfoxy89 · 08/04/2021 22:51

@Hopdathelf

Who are you fuming at? Your husband for buying them out of date? Or yourself for eating them at lunch without noticing the date?

Getting yourself so worked up is probably going to do more harm than a potentially dodgy sausage.

Myself, the shop for selling it. To be honest the amount of hormones currently being pumped into my body I think I'm fuming at the whole world 😂

I watched a program a little while ago about eating out of date food. The guy on the program actually deliberately ate food that was way past the use by. He was absolutely fine.
I actually ate some chicken fillets last night and didn’t realise they were out of date by a couple of days. I panicked a bit and I’m not going through IVF! I remembered that program and told myself I’m fine and I am.
Don’t worry, you’re fine too!

Thank you. I think I'm a bit paranoid because I had awful food poisoning from a chicken wrap once, and it didn't show up for a few days!

Poor you what an annoying thing to happen. I bet you are worried. I work as part of my job with people going through IVF and it is a stressful time. But it is almost impossible for you to be I'll now you will be absolutely fine. Food poisoning happens quickly so that your body expels any pathogens asap. Almost always within 24-hours. Try and relax and don't worry if you don't it's stressful. Ignore the AIBU arseholes they aren't worth wasting your energy on. Flowers

Pinchoftums · 08/04/2021 22:54

Ignore my typos I've had a glass of wine! Basically it will be fine Smile

If you were gonna be ill, it would be happening by now, especially with chicken.
Try not to stress too much.

Ilovewillow · 08/04/2021 22:58

You would've been poorly before now. I had IVF for my children so I understand how you feel. Wishing you all the best, fingers crossed!

Loudhouse · 08/04/2021 23:03

I think it’s really hard for people who haven’t been through IVF to fully empathise with just how much you have invested in those little embryos. I remember trying so hard not to walk too firmly after they were put back, in case I accidentally knocked them out of meGrin.
I think it’s highly unusual for food poisoning not to show up within hours so am sure you’ll be fine.
Trying to relax is probably the single most important thing you can do right now (I know, MUCH easier said than done) but sending positive vibes and good luck Flowers

MadgeHarvyy · 08/04/2021 23:06

I think you will be absolutely fine, try not to stress too much, but did you buy them out of date?? If so I would definitely email the shop to let them know.

But honestly you will be fine, even if you ended up ill(which you wont) that is probably the worst case scenario. Good luck and I hope we hear some.good news from you soon! X

MadgeHarvyy · 08/04/2021 23:13

Sorry, I know you're very very worried and I hope you have taken some comfort from these posts, but I suddenly got a.flashback.to when I had just found out (as in 5 mins before) that I was pregnant and I had just had the chef at work cook me a rare steak.and I had been downing vodka and gin the night before and i was so so.worried.. I guess what in trying.to say is things like that seem so bad but looking back it seems so silly. I have never had IVF and I hope I am not coming across as condescending but that was just one of those little things I remember worrying about. If I had eaten out of date meat I would have panicked so much. Second time round, not so much. If you keep us updated that would be lovely, would love to hear about you being pregnant and then having a chuckle about.this. all the best xxx

Listener2021 · 08/04/2021 23:13

Sausages are chock full of preservatives. I used to work in a food lab analysing them. It wouldn't be like eating out of date raw chicken.

Tanith · 08/04/2021 23:14

How about Morrison's for illegally selling out of date meat?
orangebay · 08/04/2021 23:15

@Springb0ks that's the kind of positive real life comment she needed to hear right now! Fantastic support 🙌

KindofAwakeTonight · 08/04/2021 23:17

I agree that food poisoning usually shows up before now. And the food would have been obviously off.

I had a horrendous stomach bug in the early days of a low risk pregnancy and even phoned the GP for advice. He prescribed something to help. Baby was fine.

A close relative has just gone through a successful IVF so I know a little of your fears - good luck, I wish you every success.

GreenClock · 08/04/2021 23:18

Morrison’s sent me rancid ham in a delivery a few months ago along with garlic bread that had mould on it. I’d only ever buy tinned stuff, cereal etc from there now.

Good luck with the IVF! A New Year’s baby for you I hope. 🤞 🎉

twolipstulip · 08/04/2021 23:20

I had norovirus before I was 12 weeks with my youngest. Everything was fine.

CouldItBeCake · 08/04/2021 23:26

I have thankfully not had to go through IVF but I find myself able to empathise nonetheless! Confused I’m sorry this happened OP, and hope you’ll be fine and this will be your lucky round.

And @Tanith has hit the nail on the head. Why shouldn’t the OP be fuming on those grounds?

duvetdreaming · 08/04/2021 23:27

@Aquamarine1029

You're being very silly and slightly hysterical. You are perfectly fine.
WTF do you expect when OP is going through IVF? Of course she's going to worry.
sillysmiles · 08/04/2021 23:31

I get your anger. It takes so much work to get to the stage you are at and to have it potentially jeopardised by something so stupid is cruel.

But you ate it a lunchtime. If it was bad you'd be sick already. It was a slip up that if it wasnt for the ivf you wouldn't even register.
Sometimes it's worse when there is not really anyone to blame so you rage against the universe.
Here's to warm feet and sticky embies.

DareIask · 08/04/2021 23:33

I'd be absolutely livid.

At them selling them.
At my husband for not checking and buying them
At myself

And I wouldn't care how irrational that was.

OP the fact you are likely totally fine is somewhat missing the point isn't it. You need everything to be spot on.

Everything crossed for you Thanks
