To think at six stone overweight

You are very overweight. Dh is and says it’s not that overweight. I’m concerned about his health

It is massively overweight. Your husband is in total denial.

User262626 · 08/04/2021 00:32

He’s definitely gained a lot during lockdown unfortunately I would say about two three stone.

Babyroobs · 08/04/2021 00:32

I am six stone overweight and know I am morbidly obese.

Ponoka7 · 08/04/2021 00:33

Most people would be obese. Have you put his measurements into a calculator? There's further classification. Obesity has three categories.

PickAChew · 08/04/2021 00:34

Well, I'm 10 stone 3 and a few pounds off overweight so at 6 stone overweight I'd be morbidly obese.

User262626 · 08/04/2021 00:36

He is on quetiapine so I don’t if that’s part of the reason why.

OP posts:
FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 00:38

I’m six stone overweight and yes, that is very overweight. But what do you hope to gain by pointing it out? He knows. He couldn’t not know.

Quetiapine does lead to weight gain, in quite a serious way.

FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 00:40

Also if he is on quetiapine he either has a psychotic illness or a serious mood disorder? That might be impacting his ability to lose weight and if might not be his most pressing health concern.

User262626 · 08/04/2021 00:43

He’s on it for sleep on a low dose of 309mg would that cause weight gain? Do

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 08/04/2021 00:48

He's taking an anti-psychotic for sleeping?

User262626 · 08/04/2021 00:50

Yes he doesn’t have bi polar or psychotic symptoms never has.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/04/2021 00:54

Yes he doesn’t have bi polar or psychotic symptoms never has.

Your husband didn't ask why this was prescribed, especially since there can be very serious side effects?

User262626 · 08/04/2021 00:55

The doctor told him at a low dose it wouldn’t impact his health.

@Aquamarine1029

He's taking an anti-psychotic for sleeping?
It's becoming more common these days. APs are not addictive, unlike the benzodiazapines and the 'Z' drugs so a low dose (and 30mg is low) can be really helpful for some.

They should come with a free pair of elasticated slacks though, the majority of them are buggers for weight gain. He really does need to see the doc.

FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 00:58

Are you in the U.K.? Quetiapine can be prescribed off label for insomnia but it would be a very unusual first line treatment.

It’s used alongside antidepressants in major depressive disorder as well as psychotic illnesses but this wouldn’t be prescribed by a GP, only a Psychiatrist.

Yes, it could cause weight gain but tbh what does the cause matter? How long has he been on it? He hasn’t put on six stone overnight.

FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 00:59

I read that as 300mg which is a usual starting dose of quetiapine

ViciousJackdaw · 08/04/2021 01:12

Ah, I read it as 30mg, I remember starting on 50mg myself when I took it.
Inneedoflifeadvice · 08/04/2021 01:13

Quetiapine is definitely associated with weight gain so it's very likely that that contributed to his weight gain.

He probably is aware that he's very overweight but is just downplaying it to make himself feel better.

Ploughingthrough · 08/04/2021 01:18

It is hugely overweight and of course you should point it because his health is massively at risk. I would be worried too if this was my DH.

1forAll74 · 08/04/2021 01:43

This drug is well known for causing weight gain,, but much more serious conditions too. . Big weight gain can cause heart problems as well.I would never use this drug, But ask a GP if something else can be prescribed instead.

Try to lose a bit of weight, eating better, and getting fitter, may alleviate the conditions that your partner is having this medication for.

Gemma2019 · 08/04/2021 03:22

My ten year old DD weighs exactly six stone and isn't particularly thin, so it is literally like he is carrying a ten year old around 24/7. Of course he knows it's really overweight.

User262626 · 08/04/2021 12:49

He does have depression to. The original prescription of it came from a psychiatrist not the GP sorry I wasn’t clear.

OP posts:
FontyMcFontface · 08/04/2021 13:46

So he has depression severe enough that he’s been referred to a psychiatrist.

Tinydinosaur · 08/04/2021 13:54

That is super overweight! Surely that's morbidly obese.

FlatEarthling · 08/04/2021 14:30

My DH said nothing as I gained weight. I was at least 7 stones overweight and he ignored the issue.
Yes, I ate all the pies but I would have loved someone to notice and offer support or concern.
I might not have done anything but in retrospect ( I'm dieting now) I am upset with him. Again, I ate the food but if positions has been reversed I'd be worried about his health if not his appearance
