Drowning in laundry

How do people keep on top of their laundry? 2 adults, toddler and baby and I feel like I'm drowning in washing and putting away. Don't even iron! Anyone got any tips?

Well that's not the case at all! like everything it's open to interpretation I gave an example of 1 day .... I didn't say .. this is everyday for all of eternity ....

Or did I? Hmm

4 adults here , all do sport .
Usually 3-4 loads Wednesday evening to put out the next day, same Friday evening. The Saturday towels and bedding. It’s never ending but one of the few chores I don’t mind doing

With 9 of us that's 9 lots of underwear per day at a bare minimum but usually PJ's, and an outfit too so 9 x underwear, 9 x PJ's, 9 x outfit every day then add in towels and bedding etc Yes I do a lot of washing but it's certainly not all I do

5 of us here (including baby) and no tumble-drier!

  • use colour catchers so you can wash mixed loads, saves time sorting.
  • kids strip off straight into washing machine wherever possible (eg. after dinner and before bath)
  • clean laundry is unloaded into individual baskets. Each child has to have an empty basket before any screen time (I help youngest ones with this)
  • dry outdoors wherever possible - doesn't matter if day is cold, as long as there's a breeze.
  • I'm also pretty selective with what I wash. Kids are very outdoorsy and spend hours climbing trees - if something is a bit muddy but fine for going back to the park then they can just wear it the next day.

@StephenBelafonte

Don't do laundry overnight! A fire safety officer said its a small risk but a risk all the same.

A small risk of what @Northernsoullover?

Erm.. 🔥

Have bought enough school shirts, tights, pants etc. that they don’t need washing during the week and can all be done at weekend, so perfectly possible to not wash during the week.

I still usually do one wash during the week then white wash on a Friday (dry on stand by the next day) then on Saturday one dark, one colour and on Sunday a hot wash of towels/bedding. Use colour catchers.
I feel like that is quite a lot of washing but can see compared to others I don’t wash much at all.

Two adults, two teens and no tumble dryer.

Keep reminding the teens that clothes can be worn more than once - e.g. jeans!

1 load a day. Maybe a bit extra when required.

Mainly dry on the maiden and then air in the tumble. Sort as it comes out the tumble and straight away. Minimal ironing

Only wash things that are genuinely dirty. I do one or two loads a week for me and my three year old. Washing things that don't really need it just creates so much extra work as well as using a lot of electricity.

@DappledThings I have a large bosch 9kg machine.
Primary school child dirties a lot of clothes. Toddler dirties a lot of clothes. When I carry toddler, my clothes get dirty. We have 2 full laundry baskets each week. If I leave it just one day more, they start overflowing.

RE: 1/2 loads? Load 1 is filled halfway, so let's say 4.5 kg. In the dryer, these all dry completely in 1 hour. So now most of the children clothes are more or less completely clean and dry in the space of 2 hours. Just this alone, I feel less stressed about laundry.
Sounds like my method doesn't sound that great for you. For me, I couldn't do laundry every couple of days as there are only a few days that Primary school child has after school club.

I work full time and laundry is one of the tasks I really do not like doing!

Unpopular opinion, but I don' like the smell of line-dried stuff!
CandyLeBonBon · 13/04/2021 00:25

I've just done 9 load of laundry in 2 days (kids supposed to do their own but got overwhelmed, so I did it whilst they were at their dad's)

My house smells like a Lenor factory!
