To buy a counter top dishwasher?

needachange11 · 06/04/2021 22:27

Our new house doesn't have space for a dishwasher or a slimline.

The thought of going back to doing loads of washing up makes me want to cry.

AIBU to buy a counter top one? Or do I just get over it and get use to washing up again Sad

I know this isn't helpful but what possessed you to move to a hosue with no room for a dishwasher? Can't you forgo a cupboard to fit one in? I've never use countertop ones but yes if you can afford one then why not?

Somuddled · 06/04/2021 22:38

Are you completely sure you can't fit one in?

TyneTeas · 06/04/2021 22:40

I've had a counter top one before, you can actually fit in a reasonable amount

rainbowthoughts · 06/04/2021 22:44

If you don't t have the under counter space are you sure you have the counter space for a dishwasher?

QuestionableMouse · 06/04/2021 22:47

They're pretty good. My sister has one and while it can't fit everything, it copes fine with day to day stuff from a family of four.

Inaquandry19 · 06/04/2021 22:52

Yanbu. I used to have one when I lived in a flat and it was great.

RickiTarr · 06/04/2021 22:55

We had one before having the kitchen remodelled. Our dinner plates didn’t fit in it, so we handwashed those, but running it three times a day dealt with almost everything else. Now DS has it in his FTB micro kitchen.

Tinydinosaur · 06/04/2021 22:56

I love our countertop one. We didn't use the counter it's on and it fits a day's pots.

MissPessyMistic · 06/04/2021 22:56

You can get counter top dishwashers?? I’m off down my next google rabbit hole.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 06/04/2021 23:00

I had a counter top dishwasher in my flat. Big enough for 4 settings, although mine was a bit industrial looking. I would have another one if space was an issue.

MollyBloomYes · 06/04/2021 23:05

Ooooh following this as I keep considering one. I live in a housing association place so couldn't really turn it down on the basis it wouldn't fit in a dishwasher after waiting for five years to be housed.

I have measured and measured and googled and driven people I know with lateral thinking brains to distraction to try and work out a way of fitting a normal one in. Ain't happening. I loathe washing up so put it off and then it becomes an even bigger chore.

Would love to hear some recommendations from people who have one!

FlipFlapFlop1980 · 06/04/2021 23:11

I put a slimline dishwasher in our kitchen with no under counter space. I just put it free standing on the floor and it wasn't a big kitchen (about 4mx 2.5m). Plumbed it in myself, just had the pipe coming out from the bottom of sink cupboard along the wall.

3littlemonkeys82 · 06/04/2021 23:18

I have this one , bought during the 1st lockdown where I honestly though I was going to lose the plot with the amount of constant washing up.

It easily covers a family of 4. Just need to be careful with the size of your larger dinner plates. It has a number of different cycles including a 20 min cycle.

Fits up on a corner of countertop where the microwave used to go so no wasted space as such.

The pipes that come with it aren't massively long so dependant on where you're plumbing points are you might need to buy additional ones.

Embracelife · 06/04/2021 23:18

Yes get it
I got this one you can fill with a jug just have hose running into sink
Cookology CMDW2SL Portable Mini Tabletop Dishwasher in Silver
It fits enough ( 3 people) and leaves cutlery glasses etc v clean . Even porridge cereal bowls. If your dinner plates are v big they might not fit.

Or if you can plumb in you have other options slightly bigger.

I had one (Husqvarna I think) in my first house decades ago. It worked pretty well and held about 4 place settings I think.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/04/2021 23:43

Just put a condenser dryer upstairs and put a dishwasher in it’s place @needachange11 @MollyBloomYes

Ontheboardwalk · 06/04/2021 23:44

I wouldn’t have counter space for a counter top dishwasher but can fit a slimline one in. How much counter space do you have?

I couldn’t do without my slimline dishwasher

RocketHog · 07/04/2021 00:18

I have the Cookology six setting one and I truly think it’s the best thing I have ever bought myself. £150 off TheWrightStuff on eBay last November during Black Friday week. Usually about £190 I think. Arrived less than 36 hours after I ordered it and I fitted it myself using a Y splitter on my washing machine water pipe and a 2m washing machine hose I bought after measuring up.

I’ve never had a dishwasher before. Lived alone most of my adult life in rentals and either didn’t have room or if I did I thought it would be too long indulgent for just one person.

Crazy really considering my mental health issues mean the first thing to be neglected is washing up, kitchen care, and food Hmm

Thankfully at nearly 50 I decided life was far too short to stress over washing up and took the plunge.

Only me here and I put it on every 3 or 4 days. I’m not joking when I say it’s been life changing for me. My kitchen has been spotless ever since Grin . If there was a fire they’d have to drag me out with my arms around it Grin

Oh, I did have to buy some smaller dinner plates, 9” I think but thankfully during a visit to Poundland they had the perfect size before I spent more online. £4 later I’m sorted for every load. She’s waiting to be emptied so I can take a pic of inside in the morning before and after unloading if anyone would like to see?

RightOnTheEdge · 07/04/2021 00:29

How have I gone through life not knowing this was a thing? Shock
I hate washing up!

eatsleepread · 07/04/2021 01:55

There used to be one in our staffroom at work. It held a surprising amount of dishes!

PrincessPeachh · 07/04/2021 02:45

How do you plumb in the countertop ones? I really want to get one but not sure how it works!

unvillage · 07/04/2021 02:50

What possessed you! Oh darling however will you cope?!

Lol no you should buy one if you want to. Washing dishes isn't as bad as some posters have implied though. Up to you!

safariboot · 07/04/2021 03:05

Better than nothing. Even if it can't do everything it'll handle some of the work.

sashh · 07/04/2021 03:20

I don't have room for a full size one and have a counter top one. Actually I've had them in two places I've lived.

How do you plumb in the countertop ones? I really want to get one but not sure how it works!

You split the pipes for your washer (with a splitter not literally split the pipes) one for input and put the outflow into washer outflow. I put a hole in the countertop but you could have it into the sink if you can't put a hole.

Mine sits on my draining board because the wall cupboards are too low to put it elsewhere.

How have I gone through life not knowing this was a thing?

Well you know now.
