To ask about gender inequality in relation to nipple censorship?

In 2021, in a time of so much advancement in so many areas of life, I'm here to talk about the nipple. It really sounds utterly ridiculous to even have to bring this topic up - but I feel it necessary.

Yes, I know that over the past one hundred plus years, women's nipples have been sexualised, fetishised and seen as crude/lewd/indecent in public. However, I've looked online and I can't seem to see a justification as to why men are allowed to parade down their local High Street and nip into their local Tesco with their nipples out if a woman can't? Similarly, If my boyfriend posted a topless picture on Instagram, it would be seen as normal. If I did so, it would be banned.

I know I'm probably asking an age old question, but I can't helping feeling angry at the inequality of it, and feel that it's still not talked about nearly enough.

Anyone care to discuss?

Actually agree.

We were once watching some amazing African drummers and dancers dressed in just the most amazing grass type skirts and it took a while to realise they were both sexes.

But I guess it's something that may not change? I can't imagine them ever accepting too less woman at the swimming pool - it was ridiculous how long it took for pools to accept burka swimwear, and leggings and tops etc.

Although having lived years abroad it drives me nuts to this day we cannot sunbathe top less. No one batters an eyelid in many European counties and that isn't a million miles away from here.

I certainly feel more comfortable at the beach topless and natural than l would in some of the superboost gel padded bikini tops you see.

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2021 07:08

TBF you wouldn’t be surprised to see nipples at the beach, make or female ones.

RampantIvy · 08/04/2021 07:17

TBH I haven't seen many topless sunbathers at beach destinations over recent years. It seems less common these days. Or maybe it just isn't happening at the places we choose to go to?

StarlightLady · 08/04/2021 08:13

@RampantIvy - l still go for it, but l do know friends who have been put off by mass ownership and sneaky use of camera phones.

I was once approached on a beach by a man that said l shouldn’t be topless because there were children about. I was just laying there on my own, minding my own business and not even close to anyone. I looked him straight in the eye and told him where l came from breasts were for feeding children so they wouldn’t hurt children. He skulked off with his tail between his legs.

That thought had never occurred to me, but I think you may be right @StarlightLady.

We tend to holiday in low key places, but even on our holiday in Majorca three years ago I only saw two topless women.

Macncheeseballs · 08/04/2021 09:43

Not a big fan of the topless look, or the thong, I really don't want to see tits and butts on the beach or any where else for that matter

DeadlyMedally · 08/04/2021 09:44

There's no law against women being topless in public in the UK (as far as I'm aware).

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 08/04/2021 09:51

Of all the problems suffered by women you choose this one to focus on?

DV, FGM, femicide, pay gap, childcare... Nipples.

GladAllOver · 08/04/2021 10:06

I have very rarely seen men topless in supermarkets. Doesn't seem hygienic somehow.
But in the park or on the beach I'm happy to see both sexes topless and certainly go topless myself.
As for being sexual, men's chests can be too. If I'm in the mood a gentle stroke of Dh's chest really gets him going.
