To wonder why anyone would get a takeaway roast?

I get supporting local pubs, but I just don't understand why anyone would get a takeaway roast?

Pubs are charging £15 for a one course Sunday roast (every week, not just Easter). Which isn't exactly cheap. I would have thought this would be pretty grim once you get it home, and a home cooked roast is far superior.

Some people can’t be arsed to make their own.

I don't see how it's different from takeaway anything else. Home cooked might be better (might) but part of the point of takeaway is not to have to cook.

Got better things to do with their time than spend 2 hours cooking a roast?

Just a wild guess but maybe they buy them because they like them and are happy to pay that price. Pretty much the same reason anyone buys anything non-essentail.

They are a total pain to make, especially if you live on your own.

I’ve always wondered that. There are a few places that do it near me and there is a dial-a-roast van as well but I’ve never fancied it myself.

Takeaway roasts heat up just fine

DH and I have done it a number of times. Means that we can each eat different meat.
Much bigger selection of vegetables.
No need to cook.

Because they are proud non-cooks spending their cash supporting local businesses fighting to stay afloat and not make their workers redundant.

There is a local pub round here that does this. It's amazing, we've had it a couple of times. It's £9.99, I wouldn't pay £15. It's lovely, there's plenty of it and it's very nice. They have become popular, not just Sunday roast but doing various theme nights etc. They even doing delivery some nights.

Because I can't cook a roast (have never tried to be honest) and because all the ingredients plus time and effort cooking and cleaning up after means I would rather pay for a ready cooked one.

I've never had one either but it doesn't need much brain to comprehend that people like different things.

I would love to get a carvery meal. Because I can't be arsed doing cauliflower (just for myself), parsnip, glazed carrots, turnip, peas and roast peppers but someone cooking in large numbers can. And I can have one portion. But the price puts me off.

Do you normally lack empathy?

We've done it a few times, for all the reasons stated above, plus a roast with all the trimmings is a lot of effort and washing up for just one or two people.

Is that ok with you?

I cook what’s essentially a full Christmas dinner nearly every Sunday. We got one delivered a few weeks back and it was worth every penny. No one stuck in the kitchen, hardly any dishes, just a Sunday chilling with films.

I can understand why people do it, but not at that price.

A place in our town dies drench style rotisserie Chicken. They’ll deliver a roast with all accompaniments and real gravy, for four, for £18. My husband and son don’t like roast, chicken skin or anything fatty(🤯).
My daughter and I love it. We’re considering ordering one for the two of us

You say that, and I agreed, until I did a whole days volunteering in a community garden and someone brought me a Toby Carvery roast. It was still good!

Dunno about £15 though, for that you could get a takeaway for two!

Does French. Fat fingers. Too many roasts.

I know people who do it and it’s mainly because they want to support out locals and keep them in business.

Ummm,:
(1) to support the pub
(2) to cut down on dishes
(3) to treat themselves
(4) because they are not confident cooking a roast
(5) because their kitchen or oven is inadequate / being refurbished
(6) because they like different meats from each other

Can think of lots of reasons.
