What would you ban?

The dog thread has got me pondering...

I'd ban smoking. Ideally full stop but would settle for at least anywhere outside of your own house. It smells. Its unhealthy not just for you but for people around you who don't choose to smoke. Causes thousands of deaths.

Also wasps. I want to be able to sit out in an evening and not be bugged by them. They can also sting me and have zero consequences. Described as voracious predators. I understand they pollinate stuff but surely we have Bees for that (and other things) why do we need angry Wasps too?

And prawn cocktail crisps. Just No.

When we live in a bluetatorship I will give out free milk and cookies but take away your stupid sounding crisps!

AIBU posts that do not include the vote button

So you are fine, OP. Unlike so many....

Pinchoftums · 03/04/2021 17:56

People who are scared of dogs off leads from going into parks.
Air fresheners (most likely to be carcinogenic things not yet proven)
Bigots being allowed to comment on social media.
Coconut on cakes.
Teenager boy smell from escaping from bedrooms

AprilFoolaround · 03/04/2021 17:58

Oooh where to start...

My ExH

My neighbours and their anti-social, covid rule breaking ways and their godforsaken wood burner/fire pit thing that they light every time it's sunny and I put the washing out.

Smoking and vaping

Alcohol

Recreational drugs

McDonalds/Subway/KFC etc

Eating meat and fish

Loud music emitting from gardens

Spitting in the street

Parking within quarter of a mile of schools unless you have specific needs

Hot tubs

Deep fat fryers

Gender

High heels

Fake eyebrows and fake tan

Fancy cars owned by people who can't adequately house their children. No one should spend over a grand a month on a car when they have 4 kids sharing one bedroom and not enough room for everyone to sit down to eat.

longtimemarried · 03/04/2021 17:58

I would ban the following:-

Alcohol/drugs/smoking/swearing/the use of the words babe, hun, little man, thinking outside the box, singing from the same hymn sheet, and fur baby. Door to door hawkers, Sundays to stay shopping free and a ban on TV adverts e.g. Funding funeral costs, Lets talk about leaky bladders (Tena Advert) to name but two. That will do for now.

ilovesooty · 03/04/2021 17:58

@inmyslippers

Fireworks except for designated and licensed displays
Absolutely.
AprilFoolaround · 03/04/2021 17:59

And fireworks except at organised events

Social media like Facebook and Instagram and tiktok nonsense

Bloodybridget · 03/04/2021 18:04

If we banned eating and drinking in the street, there'd be so much less litter. But even better if people stopped littering.
No creatures should be banned, for god's sake, how many species are heading for extinction as it is?

SweetPetrichor · 03/04/2021 18:07

If I were a dictator I would:

Ban smoking and vaping
Ban football
Ban cheap alcohol
I’d ‘ban’ speeding by imposing speed limiters on all vehicles.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 03/04/2021 18:07

Weed - it stinks.
Ripped jeans - look ridiculous.
Litter - enough said.
Speeding drivers - reckless.
"Karen" slurs.

TSSDNCOP · 03/04/2021 18:12

The word essential. Particularly in the current context of "is that essential" said from a very high horse.

I would like a sniper tower at every slip road and junction that enables drivers to speed up and cut in at the last minute.

I would like to ban economy class and give every air traveller some decent legroom. And a gin and tonic.

Captpike · 03/04/2021 18:18

@Sundances

scruffy people Everyone must comb or brush their hair, do up some buttons, stand and walk with good posture, have a positive pleasant expression that should cut the numbers in Tesco
Sounds like some kind of hellish dystopia, I'm glad you're not in charge.
poppycat10 · 03/04/2021 18:28

@inmyslippers

Fireworks except for designated and licensed displays
Oh yes, forgot about those!
MistyGreenAndBlue · 03/04/2021 18:33

Misogyny.

Porn
Cat calling, groping etc.

BST - just leave the clocks alone ffs.

MumofSpud · 03/04/2021 18:35

poppycat10 · 03/04/2021 18:36

SweetToffee · 03/04/2021 18:39

People with gardens that they don’t look after .
Affordable homes they aren’t affordable

Campervan69 · 03/04/2021 18:41

YouShouldLeave · 03/04/2021 18:43

Men
Pick-me’s

squashyhat · 03/04/2021 18:44

Christmas - or at least not Christmas Day itself, and maybe a few days either side - but the one that starts in September.

Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, apart from the ones he wrote with Tim Rice.

Really annoying BBC continuity announcers, two in particular. One sounds like he's sniggering at some private joke all the time and the other thinks he's a gangsta.

Exhausted4ever · 03/04/2021 18:48

@poppycat10

Parking on pavements Garden bonfires Loud music between 10pm and 7am Lawns being mowed more than once a month# Net curtains Off-lead dogs Loud exhausts

As for wasps, they are permitted until 31 July (date negotiable) and then they have to bog off and die quietly, rather than hassling us when we are trying to enjoy an ice cream outside

I can concur with this, except net curtains. Surely they aren't offensive or annoying, just don't have them yourself ?
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 03/04/2021 18:48

I wouldn’t ban smoking, but I would limit it to inside people’s homes or in specific smoking dens. Like opium dens.

Cycling on pavements.

Music being audible outside people’s headphones.

Gender being prioritised over sex.

MilyMoo · 03/04/2021 18:57

@Silverfly

Boxing
I'm not a fan of boxing either. However, it has a hugely positive effect in getting kids in off the street in deprived areas and engaging them. I work in Social Care and go out of my way to get the young people I work with down to the local boxing clubs in their areas as the coaches are fantastic and do loads of work with youth offending; youth services and the police.
Shufflebumnessie · 03/04/2021 19:02

Spitting in the street
Dog owners not picking up dog poo
Coriander
People who refer to their children as sexy

TroysMammy · 03/04/2021 19:26

@MumofSpud and grey hoodies worn with aforesaid grey joggers.

QuidditchQueen · 03/04/2021 19:32

The word ‘safe’
Anyone who wants ‘safe’ should be locked up n a secure institution forever while the rest of us cavort unsafely.
