Where is all the marmite? Have tried my online shop for several weeks and in some shops... nothing, zilch, no marmite. Am in London if that makes a difference?! I know this is no way an important subject but I’m getting twitchy as my jar is getting low.

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

My 2 year old loves marmite rice cakes and they're out of stock everywhere!!!

KoalaOok · 07/04/2021 18:25

Nearly caved in and tried the supermarket own brand

WantingAnother · 07/04/2021 18:29

I’m now feeling the need to rush out and buy some Marmite incase of a shortage :D

I very nearly voted YABU for saying "this is no way an important subject"

It is VERY VERY important and I'm now going to have to pop to the Spar to assess my local Marmite situation. I was in two minds whether to go to get a bottle of wine but now I'm not going to rest easy until I've been and know if I have to go on a Marmite hunt tomorrow.

@PickAChew

Apparently there's a shortage because it's a by-product of brewing.

I hadn't heard this but came on to say the same thing, it makes sense of course. There's no shortage round here, I expect it's being sent to the supermarkets where they know it sells and OP probably lives in an area where it's less popular.
Quite what that says about our respective areas is beyond me though.

@Kimye4eva

Saw it in Lidl today. Also London.

I’ve not been able to get the reduced salt version for about 10 months now.

Our big Sainsbury's, where we do click and collect, has reduced salt Marmite online. However, we're in NE England, so I doubt that information is much use. Sorry Grin

Interesting , I wonder if that is why I haven't been able to get marmite cheddar ( absolutely divine!) for a few weeks. I'd only just discovered it!

mrsbyers · 07/04/2021 21:54

I actually prefer the Aldi grandessa brand

Singlebutmarried · 07/04/2021 22:01

I can get the glass jar one, but not the squeezy (easier for the 9yo to spread)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/04/2021 22:03

Saw in tesco on Monday. The big tesco, not express

QueenPaw · 07/04/2021 22:04

@justsotiredallthetime I usually get them from Amazon (I eat them with egg mayo for breakfast, yes it's weird)
Sainsburys had some in last time I looked

tootyfruitypickle · 07/04/2021 22:12

Omg it's out of stock on ocado.

I'm in a panic now

PicnicPie · 07/04/2021 22:32

I got a big jar in West london B and M in the last week...

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 07/04/2021 23:21

Try small convenience stores, we have been the only place in our area with throughout the lockdowns! We even managed to get the marmite peanut butter Grin

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 07/04/2021 23:23

The Morrison or Tesco own brands aren’t bad either.

PinkTonic · 09/05/2021 08:27

I searched for a marmite thread before starting one, and I’m so glad I did because I have now ordered some from Amazon after braving several supermarkets in search!

What I’m interested in knowing though, given there doesn’t seem to be enough available now to even keep the supply of 250g jars going, is why there still appears to be plenty to supply industrial quantities to the production of other products, some of them new! Marmite cheese slices, cheese spread, peanut butter, M&S pastries, hot cross buns...seems a bit U to me.

Local supermarket was out for a couple of weeks, but managed to get some last week. Also noticed Aldi had some yesterday too.
It was very annoying to have a shortage for a few weeks as I think to have it in toast every morning.
I blame brexit / boris and Jeremy Corbyn 🤣

maddening · 09/05/2021 09:11

It was mentioned on mock the week, apparently described as "marmageddon"
