Marmite

Where is all the marmite? Have tried my online shop for several weeks and in some shops... nothing, zilch, no marmite. Am in London if that makes a difference?! I know this is no way an important subject but I’m getting twitchy as my jar is getting low.

Plenty on Amazon.

PickAChew · 02/04/2021 23:21

Apparently there's a shortage because it's a by-product of brewing.

They have it in our Aldi. I’m also happy with their own brand version at a push.

We were having this discussion this week!
ChristmasCovid · 02/04/2021 23:22

The U.K. is experiencing a shortage of Marmite, the polarizing yeast-extract spread, due to a lack of brewer's yeast, an ingredient now in short supply after pubs closed down amid the coronavirus pandemic.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/04/2021 23:22

Marmite is made with the by products of beer brewing, apparently the shortfall last year was because all the pubs were closed and so less beer was being brewed so I guess this is the same again. Hope you mg it will be back soon 😬

Mrspopper · 02/04/2021 23:23

looked in Aldi today... will try their own if I see it.!

You can even get a jar with your name on.

Holland and Barrett also have a meridian version which I’ve had before and is good.

purplebatbear · 02/04/2021 23:45

Aldi own isn't too bad. It's a little different but close enough if you can't find Marmite

Open one.
Quaagars · 02/04/2021 23:56

I've voted YABU solely for the fact you are being very unreasonable for wanting such a jar of vileness in the first place Grin

Kimye4eva · 02/04/2021 23:57

Saw it in Lidl today. Also London.

I’ve not been able to get the reduced salt version for about 10 months now.

LadyPoison · 03/04/2021 00:00

Plenty in Sainsbury last week. I got the Chilli one (underwhelmed) and the XO one (gorgeous).

They had loads of the usual one too

22Giraffes · 03/04/2021 00:08

Plenty where I am in North West London, have you tried little convenience stores as well as supermarkets? I love the stuff!

TaraR2020 · 03/04/2021 00:10

Oh no this is terrible news! Shock

Op, are you coping ok? Flowers

Firebird83 · 03/04/2021 00:15

I can’t find the blue reduced salt one anywhere!

Superstardjs · 03/04/2021 00:19

There was NONE in my local (London) Waitrose last week. I know this because the world's oldest couple could not locate it so I got on my hands and knees to see if I could find an errant jar at the back of the shelf: I could not. Due to my input the previous week, I was quick to note a whole bastard shelf full this week.

MrsTophamHat · 03/04/2021 00:21

I only discovered Marmite last year but i could eat it by the spoonful if left to my own devices

Cowgran · 03/04/2021 02:03

YABU eating that disgusting stuff haha. Vegemite all the way! 😝😉

Bloodybridget · 03/04/2021 04:05

I needed a new jar about three weeks ago, Sainsbury's only had XO, what a shock! Twice the price, and I couldn't tell any difference in taste. It's only me that eats it, so I hope it lasts until normal supplies resume.

Mrspopper · 03/04/2021 09:49

Oh didn’t think of ordering directly via marmite... will get one with my name on! Thanks marmite people!

Sainsburys near me had loads, even the XO and chilli ones (NW)

MrsExpo · 03/04/2021 10:15

The Morrisons own brand substitute is OK.
