The amount of whinging about missing out on holidays here and elsewhere has been shockingly irritating. Will missing out on a couple of trips to Megaluf/bland med cruises REALLY be the end of the world? It's such a shocking tone-deaf and privileged way to live your life.

Will staying at home and talking to your DC/learning a language/read a few books really be the end of the world? It's pretty grim absolutely NEED trips abroad or the seaside to to distract yourself from your own life.

Chocolate isn’t essential and neither are televisions, social media or any manner of other things. But when you work long hours day after day, month after month etc in a dull job being complained at by clients and customers what’s wrong with having something to look forward to-a bit of R & R in the sun in a different environment away from the usual stressors can really help.

bloody hell, we should all move back into a cave, shall we?
We just need a vague, shelter, some food and water, and sorted.

The competitive misery and race to the bottom on MN is depressing.

Holidays are more than essential. What's the point of spending most of your life working if you get nothing out of it?

I don't care what people do, I don't care where they go, I can't stand the concept of staycation. Day trips are what we do at the weekend, trips around the country what we do more or less regularly (apart from the last year).

I need a holiday, my kids need holidays. We managed to go abroad last summer when we could, and it made a world of difference after months of lockdown.

If anything, the last year has shows I don't spend anywhere near as much time on holiday as I should, and going away twice (3 times max) a year is not enough. The kids have 7 breaks a year, it's ridiculous not to make the most of it. Especially now we can WFH and "home" can be anywhere.
