Anyone else not seeing friends until they've had a haircut?

I know there are bigger issues but we're still allowed to miss personal grooming.

The rules were slightly eased yesterday but I don't feel like seeing anyone until i can at least get my hair and eyebrows done.
Majority of people seem to look fine even though we've had no salon access for nearly 4 months, but my hair has been growing into a short bob and looks more like a mullet, eyebrows are a state as I can't do my own well.
Been running but haven't been to the gym in 4 months either so just feel flabby.

Honestly don't want to see anyone until after the 12th, anyone else feel like this?

Does anyone still care what anyone else looks like after lockdown?

Everyone's in the same boat and actually I think it's pretty sad that you'd think like that after what we've all been through, it's kind of shallow

CoffeeWithCheese · 30/03/2021 21:11

@Beenaroundnow

Fuck that. We’re all in the same boat and I can’t wait to get together with my friends. We’ve seen each other in passing or in photos anyway so it won’t be a massive shock and we’ll all have a good laugh at the state we’re in. I do know a lot of people who were desperate for salons to open last time but this time round they seem to have made their peace with it and probably won’t use them as frequently as before.
I'm the least bothered about my appearance ever person - but there's no way I'm stopping my monthly hairdresser appointments when they reopen (I'm booked in for day 2 of reopening). It's my one real indulgence on myself that I get my roots bleached and colour redone really regularly (my hair is cut very short and in quite a precise cut, and grows fast so the longest I can get away with leaving it is about 6 weeks max) and it's the one real bit of complete downtime I get in a month.

Looking at the size of the waiting lists for all local hairdressers, I am not sure that's true.

@beginningoftheend

I think it would be great if generally the world embraced a lower standard of grooming - it is a major consumer of women's time and money.
This.
thevicarstroketwice · 30/03/2021 21:51

so? I like to spend my time and money getting pampered and making the most of modern solutions to keep me looking the best I possibly can.

Much better use of my time than being on MN! Sadly everything but MN is closed right now.

Well good for you. People are all different.

In answer to the OP - no, it wouldn't occur to me.

thevicarstroketwice · 30/03/2021 22:06

Well good for you. People are all different.

Indeed.

So no need for "the world" to embrace a lower level of grooming. The current level is just fine (or would be without the restrictions).

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/03/2021 07:45

Tbh I'm surprised that people aren't able to manage eyebrows, nails and waxing (legs anyway!) at home. Hair cutting is obviously a skill and I understand if people don't want to try home hair dye. But tweezers, emery boards and strip wax can be bought in any supermarket or chemist.

I obviously spend way below the norm on grooming - for me it amounts to 3 or 4 £50 hair cuts per year.

HugeAckmansWife · 31/03/2021 07:56

I have never in my life plucked or tweezed or done anything else to my eyebrows.. I'm aware it's a thing but never felt the need. I get my hair cut / coloured, paint my own nails and wear a little make up but mostly very unobvious, like a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. I can imagine some of my 6th form students stressing about not being 'done' but I do think it's sad an adult would delay seeing people or that her friends are such that she thinks they would judge.

therocinante · 31/03/2021 07:57

No... because I'd rather see my friends sooner rather than later, and my friends couldn't care less what my hair looks like.

NotATomato · 31/03/2021 07:57

You realise everyone is in the same boat OP?

I’m growing my eyebrows so in a couple of weeks they can be waxed to perfection! It wouldn’t occur to me not to see my friends.

GoneCrazy · 31/03/2021 07:58

I’ve been seeing my friends for walks and see my school mum friends on the school run everyday - not sure how I can hide my hair and eyebrows from them and actually don’t care!

OneToThree · 31/03/2021 08:02

My friends love me and I love them. We’d rather see each other whatever we look like, it wouldn’t cross our minds not too.

Mummadeze · 31/03/2021 08:03

I probably wouldn’t go on a first date but my friends don’t care what I look like. I am looking forward to getting my hair cut though.

lazylinguist · 31/03/2021 08:11

No. I haven't had my hair cut since before the first lockdown. I occasionally tweezer out a couple of stray eyebrow hairs if I notice them. If my hair looked a bit crap that wouldn't remotely stop me from seeing people or going places. Nobody I'm friends with puts much emphasis on grooming tbh. I don't even have any friends who have their brows, nails etc done. Mostly when I see my local friends they are windsweot and wearing wellies and waterproofs. Grin

It's clearly not true that everyone is in the same boat because of lockdown though. Some people are desperate to get to a hairdresser's and a beauty salon. Some people aren't remotely fussed!

AlrightTreacle · 31/03/2021 08:15

I'm sure you look better than you think OP.

I have worked throughout, and seen friends for walks and zoom calls etc. Always been fairly DIY with grooming, but am also looking forward to a haircut and eyebrow thread (can't do either well myself), but not too bothered about them now.

Meeting up with friends after today for a picnic, debating whether to do my hair and wear a nice summer dress, or to just scrape my hair back and wear my running stuff so I can for a run afterwards without having to go home first. Probably will go with latter option, they won't care.

Onlinedilema · 31/03/2021 08:23

Lockdown made me realise how impractical a lot or my clothes were. Shorts without pockets for example. I have never worn my walking boots so much as in this last year. I need a hair cut but I won't be having my nails or lashes done at a salon again.
I absolutely could not care less what my friends eyebrows look like. If anything I would welcome a world where women and girls can just 'be' and not feel pressured to buy all the pointless shit thrown at us by marketing companies.

KingdomScrolls · 31/03/2021 08:25

Some of us have been going into work with our ratty hair and bushy eyebrows! My friends don't give a fig what I look like, not I them. I just miss them and as soon as I can I'm seeing them.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 31/03/2021 08:28

No.

But then I've not been to a hairdresser in about five years and have never once had any kind of beauty treatment Grin

jessstan2 · 31/03/2021 08:30

I'm not bothered about seeing anyone but have managed to cut my own hair and do my own eyebrows.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 31/03/2021 08:31

OP life is so much better when you let such things go. Tie your hair up, get some tweezers and go out.

TheJerkStore · 31/03/2021 08:33

No. I can't wait to get my hair and brows done but it's certainly not going to stop me seeing people.
I'm teaching online most days so dozens of people are seeing me anyway.

PattyPan · 31/03/2021 08:37

Nope. My hair looks the same just longer due to my normal style being all one length/shoulder length, and I’ve had video calls throughout so my friends and colleagues know what it looks like.

Can’t someone in your household/bubble help you tidy it up? DP helped me trim mine last year and I do his with the clippers.

PattyPan · 31/03/2021 08:39

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed what my friends do to their eyebrows tbh. I’ve certainly never had mine ‘done’!

Itsalonghaul · 31/03/2021 08:41

I don't know if it is about the way you look, because I am sure you know your friends would not care, but maybe a low level anxiety about socialising again? Manifesting as I am not ready.

If you had posted I don't feel ready to see family and friends again, I think you would have got a much better response.

I am not sure I can face it either, not for the same reasons. I am too tired, worn out and need a break before I can face my old life.

I feel ravaged by the lockdown, and exhausted by it both physically and mentally. So I am not in the mood to do tons of socialising. I need a rest more than I need anything else.

Once I have time to decompress, been to the salon for a cut, found a few outfits I am comfortable in - and got over the shock of winter ending overnight. Then and maybe then, yes, but slowly.

I need a slow return.
