AIBU about workmen’s cold drinks

We are having new windows and a front door fitted.
I was out all day with the dog, but when I returned DP said he’d got some cold drinks in for the fitters, as they had been asking for them.
They had been offered and had drunk many cups of tea and coffee, but apparently wanted cold drinks too.
We have lemon squash in the house which they could drink, but they wanted coke and fruit juices.

My DP went to the shop and purchased Coke and Oasis for them.

My thoughts are: they’ve had hot drinks and a suitable cold drink has been offered.
If my DP can go to the shop and purchase drinks, why can’t they?

They worked 9-5 today and will do approx 9-1 tomorrow and we live in a small city, so not long days away from civilisation!

I know it’s not the end of the world, but requesting specific drinks, that we wouldn’t have in the house otherwise, seems a bit much!

No @midlife lady, you have brought joy to so many with your failure to proofread. You really do not need to proofread .

You mean joysex 😂😂😂

lollipoprainbow · 30/03/2021 07:43

Glad I read the whole thread now, hilarious how some posts are ignoring the joysex part and still harping on about the drinks offered !!

Strangestthings · 30/03/2021 07:43

Missed the point of the thread but I thought we shouldn’t be offering refreshments due to covid?! 😬 Now feeling insanely rude for not offering over the past few months!

BarbaraofSeville · 30/03/2021 07:50

Hardly anyone has COVID at the moment. As long as you wash your hands, don't cough all over the drinks and don't lick the used crockery when they give it back to you, the risk is so small it's not worth worrying about.

DudeistPriest · 30/03/2021 07:50

I can see that joysex autocorrects to house but why would house autocorrect to joysex? What is going on autocorrect?

Cowbells · 30/03/2021 08:07

The smell was all over the house
Was this before or after joysex renovations @greenlynx.
Asking for the rest of us.

Iwantacookie · 30/03/2021 08:18

Do HA houses qualify for joysex renovations? Mine hasnt been done in the 10 years I've lived here.

jessstan2 · 30/03/2021 08:31

It's possible that your husband asked what they would like to drink and they told him.

I don't think it is unreasonable to provide refreshments for people doing a hard job in your home and building is thirsty work; however you don't have to. Obviously your husband didn't mind so why worry?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 30/03/2021 08:31

I usually offer tea, coffee and water. I’d expect them to sort out any cold drinks they wanted themselves.

Googleboxfan · 30/03/2021 08:34

Maybe your husband said to them I am going to the shop would you like anything...?

Biscuitsdisappear · 30/03/2021 08:35

Its team coffee or water from me, maybe a jammy dodger or a chocolate biscuit if its going to schedule.

user1471478181 · 30/03/2021 08:36

We had plasterers in recently they were happy to have coffee , tea and squash.

Mochudubh · 30/03/2021 08:37

@melj1213

"Would anyone like another tea or coffee?" "No thanks, any chance we could get some cold drinks though, its been so warm today?" "I didn't even think about that, we've only got tap water or lemon squash in the house, I'll nip to the shop and get some cold drinks, what would you prefer?" "I'd love a coke thanks, Dave doesn't like fizzy drinks though, so an Oasis or something would be fine"
Yep. I'm another one who thinks it's not particularly cheeky to ask for a cold drink. If I didn't have any in I wouldn't go to the shop specially but would probably get some for next day. You're presumably paying thousands for the work so an extra few quid for a slab of coke from Farmfoods doesn't seem much to keep them happy.

Going against the grain but I agree with the PP who thinks treating workmen well makes them more likely to go above and beyond (but maybe not as far as the joysexrenovation).

Whatamesssss · 30/03/2021 08:39

@2018SoFarSoGreat

Damn you, Covid, for making it so difficult to schedule a JoySexRenovation. Mine is looking a bit... dingy and tired. I'm slightly ashamed, but glad that no humans are allowed to enter, so there will be no witnesses.
Oh no, it sounds like your JoySex is on the verge of being condemned. I would get the surveyors in and then book the renovation ASAP!!!!
@Blondiney

Im just home from the hospital with a new baby, a fanny full of stitches & severe sleep deprivation but im literally laughing out loud. I also need to know about the joysex.
On that note i think i will finally try n sleep!!
I think you should probably leave your joysex be for a while

Passthecake30 · 30/03/2021 08:46

My dp is a builder (though I will be watching out for activities relating to joysexrenovations from now on Grin), he takes his own food/drink, however, from what I’ve heard, they all eat or drink anything that is offered (within reason) but don’t expect anything or request what’s not there...

Spidey66 · 30/03/2021 08:55

No, they're being cheeky.

Tea and coffee, yes. I often drink squash so they're welcome to that. Coke etc, they should supply themselves, like everybody does when they're going to work.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/03/2021 08:58

I always get loads of biscuits when l have builders in.

But not Coke or Oasis.

PlanDeRaccordement · 30/03/2021 09:06

I’ve always gotten workers whatever they wanted because it’s my house they are working on and I want them to do a really good job of it.
I agree you don’t have to fulfill special requests, but it is a nice thing to do and what I was taught was a polite thing to do as well.

It aggravates social class and racial divides if you refuse them to have an opinion on what drink they want and instead say there is only drink x like it or leave it.

Snazzysausage · 30/03/2021 09:12

I'm thinking if I book a joysex renovation for June orJuly, it'll give me a bit more time to save up for it. I'm not going on holiday this year so I may as well spend the money on that instead and you've got to have something to look forward to.No idea what it is but I bet at my age I need one.Wink

Wanderlust20 · 30/03/2021 09:15

@diwrnachoflleyn

Cheeky AF! 'There's a shop on the corner if you want anything specifically. I'm afraid all we've got in is lemon squash.' The end. You're not running a fucking shop.
Nicely put, yes, that's what I would have said! CFs indeed!
Merryoldgoat · 30/03/2021 09:22

Do gardeners do joysex renovations? I’m having my garden done soon but if I can get him to look at my joysex at the some time it might be the most cost effective...

Alsohuman · 30/03/2021 09:24

No joysex clarification yet? Damn, I was thinking I should get mine seen to.

IDontLikeZombies · 30/03/2021 09:31

The end of the thread and I still don't know what joysex is. Story of my fucking life.

DispensingShitAdviceSince2002 · 30/03/2021 09:39

I wonder if you need Council permission if your joysex is Listed.
