AIBU about workmen’s cold drinks

Ladyofmainlyleisure · 29/03/2021 22:00

We are having new windows and a front door fitted.
I was out all day with the dog, but when I returned DP said he’d got some cold drinks in for the fitters, as they had been asking for them.
They had been offered and had drunk many cups of tea and coffee, but apparently wanted cold drinks too.
We have lemon squash in the house which they could drink, but they wanted coke and fruit juices.

My DP went to the shop and purchased Coke and Oasis for them.

My thoughts are: they’ve had hot drinks and a suitable cold drink has been offered.
If my DP can go to the shop and purchase drinks, why can’t they?

They worked 9-5 today and will do approx 9-1 tomorrow and we live in a small city, so not long days away from civilisation!

I know it’s not the end of the world, but requesting specific drinks, that we wouldn’t have in the house otherwise, seems a bit much!

Ah, come on Midlifelady, we need to know so poor OP can get this thread back on track.

EggyPegg · 30/03/2021 00:23

We've got loft renovations starting soon. But joysex renovations sound more fun. If not a bit sore.

Wingedharpy · 30/03/2021 00:33

Is there a Government grant available for that Midlifelady? - you know, for those of us that have one that's crumbled with age.

notangelinajolie · 30/03/2021 00:35

They are cheeky buggers but the first rule of having workmen/women Grin in your home is to supply them with an endless stream of drinks.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 30/03/2021 00:35

My joysex needs renovating, who did you use? Are they just normal workmen but you need a secret handshake?

masterofthechef · 30/03/2021 00:37

@Midlifelady you know that thing when you keep pressing the middle word to complete a sentence, made up of frequently used words on your phone.. well whatever it is good on you, joysex is a lot better than shitsex.

Blondiney · 30/03/2021 00:39

The mystery of the joysexrenovations has totally taken my mind off my fucking horrendous period pains. There's not one iota of joy in my sex at the moment.

Thank you @Midlifelady!

starfishmummy · 30/03/2021 00:49

@Midlifelady is probably too busy enjoying herself - or someone else - in her joysex renovation to tell us.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 30/03/2021 00:49

Damn you, Covid, for making it so difficult to schedule a JoySexRenovation. Mine is looking a bit... dingy and tired. I'm slightly ashamed, but glad that no humans are allowed to enter, so there will be no witnesses.

NoProblem123 · 30/03/2021 00:50

I’m not wasting money on CFer’s pop when I could be saving up for my joysex renovations. YABVU.

1forAll74 · 30/03/2021 00:52

New windows and a door.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 30/03/2021 00:58

@Blondiney

Im just home from the hospital with a new baby, a fanny full of stitches & severe sleep deprivation but im literally laughing out loud. I also need to know about the joysex.
On that note i think i will finally try n sleep!!

VettiyaIruken · 30/03/2021 00:58

And just like that OP, nobody cares about your cola 🤣

Sweettea1 · 30/03/2021 01:02

Did they ask for them drinks or did dp see you only had lemon squash (not to every1s taste) so nipped out for different choice an grabbed first thing he seen.

earthyfire · 30/03/2021 01:03

I renovated quite a few houses over the years and I've never experienced this. If I offer then they get what they want. I've never had builders request various drinks unless I've asked. To be honest I always find that if I treat my tradesman well they will go over and beyond, so a few cold cans of coke would be the least of my worries really.

Redsquirrel5 · 30/03/2021 01:09

Midlifelady has probably gone to an all night garage looking for coke, Iron Bru and whatever else because it will be needed tomorrow if they are coming back to finish the job.
It’s thirsty work.

I think they are cheeky Op as I have never been asked but I do always offer tea, coffee, cold drink, two types of homemade cake. On a cold day if they are working outside it’s pies or sausage rolls. We have had a lot of workmen in. Well two main ones who love coming here. Had two today. We have just had the loft insulated for nothing😳
Painters are coming tomorrow and builder hopefully next week. I have worked with some on another large project renovation so they are like friends now especially the builder who turns out used to play football with DS1 in the same team for about four years.

Looking forward to Midlifeladies explanation...maybe that is where I went wrong with DH. I been renovating houses instead!

memberofthewedding · 30/03/2021 01:10

I offer a choice of tea/coffee/cola but Im not in a position to run after them as mobility impaired.

CherryValanc · 30/03/2021 01:13

If Midlifelady is in her renovated joysex she may be a while. Especially if there's been special orders.

Redsquirrel5 · 30/03/2021 01:13

Waves Congratulations.
I would ask the midwife. Show her the thread make her day a little brighter!😂🤣

ExhaustedFlamingo · 30/03/2021 01:16

I came here to say OP was BU to have lemon squash in the house as it’s fucking vile.....

.....but now I’m just here for the joysexrenovation too. Is this some kind of secret thing you can ask for from a builder? You know how Chinese takeaways apparently have secret menus.....builders do joysexrenovations to those who know to ask..... 👀😂

Aww congratulations! Midlifelady is doing a great service sharing her joysex around so generously.

Sleep well x

CirqueDeMorgue · 30/03/2021 02:03

@Mrgrinch

Need to know how it happened to be honest. I simply don't believe that they asked your DH to go out and buy specific drinks for them. They must have been offered.
Agreed!
BarbaraofSeville · 30/03/2021 02:06

Crying over the joysex. It was the matter of fact way that it was just there that did it for me. I was expecting something normal and mundane like garden or bathroom and there it was.

In the matter of the drinks for the window fitters, the mistake the DH made was going to the shop. Surely whatever you have in is fine as long as you get the basics in advance if you don't normally have them?

Tea, coffee, milk and sugar, maybe squash but not compulsory because not everyone has it as a matter of routine, we don't. A lot of the time the only cold drink we have in other than tap water is tonic water. They could have that if they wanted, hell I'd put some gin in if they wanted but it would probably be best waiting until they'd finished with the power tools first.
