AIBU about workmen’s cold drinks

We are having new windows and a front door fitted.
I was out all day with the dog, but when I returned DP said he’d got some cold drinks in for the fitters, as they had been asking for them.
They had been offered and had drunk many cups of tea and coffee, but apparently wanted cold drinks too.
We have lemon squash in the house which they could drink, but they wanted coke and fruit juices.

My DP went to the shop and purchased Coke and Oasis for them.

My thoughts are: they’ve had hot drinks and a suitable cold drink has been offered.
If my DP can go to the shop and purchase drinks, why can’t they?

They worked 9-5 today and will do approx 9-1 tomorrow and we live in a small city, so not long days away from civilisation!

I know it’s not the end of the world, but requesting specific drinks, that we wouldn’t have in the house otherwise, seems a bit much!

@Dreamstosell, thanks ,yes that's correct. I had to look it up later. The guy was perfectly correct, there weren't enough cross supports for the soffits beneath the eaves. At the time I sneaked off and adjusted my bra.

Being the child of a family of Scottish builders I can see you could get yourself into a right bourach without enough dwangs 😂

Well, if your DH wanted to get them to be nice then that’s fine. It shouldn’t be a regular thing or an expectation though.

I find it very annoying when people - any people - consider sweetened cold drinks as a necessity- it’s not! Cold drinks that aren’t water are a luxury item / very occasional purchase in my book!

I offer tea, coffee and water. If they are fussy enough to not like those, they can bring their own!

That's fucking cheeky. Can someone tell me another profession where you get remunerated well and then make demands on your clients for specific food and drink?

I had my joysex renovated a couple of years ago. Honestly, it was life-changing.

I would have given them what I had in the house but i wouldn't make a special trip. When I was getting my joysexrenovated I would bring donuts when I visited the site. But soon they were making special requests and I was spending £5-8 a time! I stopped - there was a shop around the corner if they really wanted something they could get it themselves.

That’s crazy haha! When did cold water become an unreasonable thing to offer people on a hot summers day haha! If they don’t like lemon squash or water they are fussy idiots and should get their own drinks! Haha!

It's ok for contractors who apparently get paid way too much while running every aspect of their self employed business to not ask for something if they are offered?

But it's ok this thread probably cost more in global electricity than the drinks from the shop in the first place

I work in peoples gardens and would feel so awkward to do this. To not be offered anything at all is so annoying but I would take what was offered, happy with water.

Sounds a bit cheeky, but to be honest if I was having workmen doing work for me on a hot day I’d be inclined to offer bottles water or coke than squash as it would mean no handling of dirty glasses.

They'd have got short shift from me if they'd requested coke and oasis from me!

Water, tea n coffee are a luxury to offer you are NOT obliged - if they want specific drinks tell the CFs to bring/buy their own!
