AIBU about workmen’s cold drinks

We are having new windows and a front door fitted.
I was out all day with the dog, but when I returned DP said he’d got some cold drinks in for the fitters, as they had been asking for them.
They had been offered and had drunk many cups of tea and coffee, but apparently wanted cold drinks too.
We have lemon squash in the house which they could drink, but they wanted coke and fruit juices.

My DP went to the shop and purchased Coke and Oasis for them.

My thoughts are: they’ve had hot drinks and a suitable cold drink has been offered.
If my DP can go to the shop and purchase drinks, why can’t they?

They worked 9-5 today and will do approx 9-1 tomorrow and we live in a small city, so not long days away from civilisation!

I know it’s not the end of the world, but requesting specific drinks, that we wouldn’t have in the house otherwise, seems a bit much!

@Dreamstosell, thanks ,yes that's correct. I had to look it up later. The guy was perfectly correct, there weren't enough cross supports for the soffits beneath the eaves. At the time I sneaked off and adjusted my bra.Blush

Being the child of a family of Scottish builders I can see you could get yourself into a right bourach without enough dwangs 😂

EffYouSeeKaye · 30/03/2021 14:55

Sincerely hope no essential new parts of your joysex are stuck in the Suez Canal @Midlifelady.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/03/2021 14:59

Well, if your DH wanted to get them to be nice then that’s fine. It shouldn’t be a regular thing or an expectation though.

I find it very annoying when people - any people - consider sweetened cold drinks as a necessity- it’s not! Cold drinks that aren’t water are a luxury item / very occasional purchase in my book!

Gemzee · 30/03/2021 15:41

Omg I just sat here and cried laughing, read the whole thread - tears streaming. Sat on my own working from home.
Wow, I needed that - thank you for the joysex Grin

Just logged on to find STILL no more info.... disappointing.

Blondiney · 30/03/2021 19:55

We've been ghosted and I've never been more distraught! Sad

stuckinarutatwork · 30/03/2021 19:58

I offer tea, coffee and water. If they are fussy enough to not like those, they can bring their own!

WestendVBroadway · 30/03/2021 20:23

I had a workman once who, when asked how he took his tea , replied "With a bacon sandwich on the side." Reader...he didn't get one.

Shrivelled · 30/03/2021 20:24

People not RTFT and just posting about refreshments while everyone else is talking about joysex, slabs of coke and dwangs 😂

That's fucking cheeky. Can someone tell me another profession where you get remunerated well and then make demands on your clients for specific food and drink?
SplendidSuns1000 · 30/03/2021 21:03

I genuinely feel like I could cry. WHAT IS A JOYSEX RENOVATION AND WHERE DO I GET ONE?!?!

Anyone else thinking it's either a dungeon or some sort of sex swing contraption? No? Just me? Blush

NotABeliever · 30/03/2021 21:49

So if "house" autocorrected to "joysex", OP must have typed that before...which again begs the question of WHAT IS IT?!

23PissOffAvenueWF · 31/03/2021 11:02

A ‘dwang’ sounds like something George and Zippy would pluck on, while Geoffrey raises his eyebrows suggestively, referencing his instrument.

P.S. I bet it gives rigidity...

CatBumJuice · 31/03/2021 12:45

I had my joysex renovated a couple of years ago. Honestly, it was life-changing.

Shell4429 · 31/03/2021 17:26

@Midlifelady

I would have given them what I had in the house but i wouldn't make a special trip. When I was getting my joysexrenovated I would bring donuts when I visited the site. But soon they were making special requests and I was spending £5-8 a time! I stopped - there was a shop around the corner if they really wanted something they could get it themselves.
You what now?Grin
Crystalgirl90 · 31/03/2021 17:27

That’s crazy haha! When did cold water become an unreasonable thing to offer people on a hot summers day haha! If they don’t like lemon squash or water they are fussy idiots and should get their own drinks! Haha!

Ifeelsuchafool · 31/03/2021 17:31

If anyone could renovate my joysex, I'd happily buy them what they wanted to drink! Grin

ThePearSquare · 31/03/2021 17:35

I’ve scrolled all the way down only to see there is still no joysex explanation, brilliant. Grin

Neilyweily · 31/03/2021 17:35

So while office workers get free sundries such as coffee and tea and much much more in some cases.

It's ok for contractors who apparently get paid way too much while running every aspect of their self employed business to not ask for something if they are offered?

But it's ok this thread probably cost more in global electricity than the drinks from the shop in the first place

nicegirl73 · 31/03/2021 17:36

I work in peoples gardens and would feel so awkward to do this. To not be offered anything at all is so annoying but I would take what was offered, happy with water.

Yogalola · 31/03/2021 17:41

Sounds a bit cheeky, but to be honest if I was having workmen doing work for me on a hot day I’d be inclined to offer bottles water or coke than squash as it would mean no handling of dirty glasses.

zingally · 31/03/2021 17:43

They'd have got short shift from me if they'd requested coke and oasis from me!
"Sorry, I've only got squash or water."

Tiredwiththeshits · 31/03/2021 17:45

We work outside all day heaving heavier stuff about than sodding windows!
Wouldn’t dream of being such a CF!!
Even water being offered or a ‘could you refill my water bottle please?’ We have all done at some point. Knock it off their bill Grin

MrsBadcrumble123 · 31/03/2021 17:46

Water, tea n coffee are a luxury to offer you are NOT obliged - if they want specific drinks tell the CFs to bring/buy their own!
