DD has just managed to climb up onto the sofa, fall off and bang under his eye. There's a 1cm ish cut just under his eye and it look deep.

He's fine on himself and happily having a breastfeed but my gut is telling me it might need glueing.. Should I take him up to get it checked?

Sorry, he's not had an accident like this before and I'm doubting myself.

Yes I think you should take him.

Frogartist · 29/03/2021 13:23

Yes, unless your GP surgery or minor injuries unit can do it.

Bettina500 · 29/03/2021 13:25

Yes I would get it seen, especially near the eye and if it's deep proper treatment will minimise scarring. You could ring 111 for advice and an appointment somewhere

Eileen101 · 29/03/2021 13:26

Yes. My DS did similar around 15 months and it was glued and steri-stripped.

peachgreen · 29/03/2021 13:27

Yes I'd always get eye injuries checked.

FelicityPike · 29/03/2021 13:27

Yes

Tossblanket · 29/03/2021 13:28

Yes

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/03/2021 13:30

I'd see if there's a minor injuries unit you can get to. It'll pay to get it seen to to minimise scaring, but even if it scars it'll just be part of who he is and bragging rights when he's older!

Glad he's feeding & seems ok.Smile

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 29/03/2021 13:31

Yes of course. DS was the same age when he fell over his high chair and caught his eye on the plastic bit that sticks out on the leg. I took him to minor injuries and they gave him a once over at the door and told me it looked fine 😂.

You know your child best. Personally I would take him if you can’t get into a gp

user1493413286 · 29/03/2021 13:32

If your gut is telling you to then do otherwise you’ll get to later on and wish you had

starsinyourpies · 29/03/2021 13:34

Had this recently, 111 and they gave appointment for minor injuries. Do you have any steri strips?

Dreambigger · 29/03/2021 13:36

Go

AvaCallanach · 29/03/2021 13:36

I took my 4 year old DD to minor injuries when a similar incident happened - 1cm long gaping deep gash on cheekbone. They redirected me to A and E as they told me they cannot do stitching stuff on faces at a walk in centre. Maybe give yours a quick ring to see if they can, to save a wait at A and E?

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 29/03/2021 13:38

i gave up on minor injuries after two seperate visits-one where i was told they don't d broken bones and one where i was told they don't do stitches. what's the point then?
yes-go to a and e

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/03/2021 13:43

Our daughter had three visits for similar injuries in two months when she a two year old. Always happy to see her.

We were turned away from minor injuries for being registered at the wrong doctors surgery. A&E weren't impressed (minor injuries 5mins from our house, the hospital 45mins away...)

skodadoda · 29/03/2021 13:53

Yes, head/facial injuries should always be followed up.

safariboot · 29/03/2021 13:55

YANBU.

When it comes to babies and young children, don't let anyone make you feel bad about going to minor injuries or A&E.

TiggerTiggerBounce · 29/03/2021 13:55

Ring 111. They will advise on the best place to be seen and may be able to get you an appointment

jessycake · 29/03/2021 13:57

Minor injuries don't always treat children under two , or at least ours doesnt , as there is no dr ,so I would check first.

dontsaveusername · 29/03/2021 13:58

minor injuries unit, wherever that is situated

Triffid1 · 29/03/2021 14:01

I wouldn't take to A&E directly but would ring 111 and ask them to book you an emergency appointment at the hospital. In our area, this sort of thing does need to be done at the hospital rather than the doctor's surgery, but via 111 you can get actual slots rather than sitting up there for 3 hours.

Aimee1987 · 29/03/2021 14:01

I cut myself in a similar area when I was a n adult. Was at a sporting event so paramedics were present. They told me if its withing the triangle of the face they automatically say it needs to be checked properly to make sure there is no damage to the eye socket.
I would take him, or at a minimum ring 111 and ask them.

shouldistop · 29/03/2021 14:03

I'd call your GP first and if you can't get through then go.
4yo DS had a similar injury above his eye a couple of months ago, it was in the evening and we couldn't get through to 111 for advice so DH took him to A&E. They were happy to see him, gave it a clean and glued it. In and out in 30 mins.

listsandbudgets · 29/03/2021 14:06

Yes.

In my experience, doctors always say that of parents are unsure they'd rather see a child than not and that sounds like a nasty knock.

Hope hes alright
