Every day its the same, every week Monday draws around and i do the weekly shop, maybe its the lockdown life but fed up of it all and just cant think of new ideas all the time, is it just me?

Definitely get this! Every week I ask what DP and DD fancy for dinner and all I ever get is that they don't mind Hmm So bloody infuriating and yet another thing where I have to do the thinking

Literallynoidea · 30/03/2021 19:29

YES, and I love cooking. But I've had enough of it.

I just want to go out to the pub and let everyone choose what they want while I neck a massive glass of expensive rose.

gemgemgemgemgem · 30/03/2021 19:29

Not unreasonable- a good thing to cone out of lockdown for me was husband and I do a plan of meals for the week (he is now involved in this after I got so fed up of being the one to think about it) shop for that via online delivery, then we have a shared list so we are both responsible if something needs to come out of the freezer. It’s a relief not to have to think past one day about it x

Faeryfly · 30/03/2021 19:29

We do a months plan at a time. Makes it less of a chore. We have staple meals we have but then we try to get the recipe books out and do one new or “not had that for a while” recipe a week.

Also means we only have to do a freezer, cupboard, butcher shop a month with fresh top up shops in between.

We have 3 adults (1 who had a stroke 5 years ago and would happily live on something and chips) and my autistic daughter who is currently restricting what she eats which makes it more challenging. But we tend to cook the same sides and veg and cook separate proteins if necessary for the same meal.

Planning weekly took the joy out of it and made it a huge chore.

DustyMaiden · 30/03/2021 19:30

Yes but I would hate it more if someone else did it. It would be so strange having someone else decide what I was going to eat.

expectopelargonium · 30/03/2021 19:33

Oh, the never-ending skull-crushing boredom of having to decide what to cook.

Today it was relatively easy though - the remains of Sunday's roast beef chopped into bits and slung in a pan with a jar of balti sauce. No real decision-making needed.

100% this!
mumof2exhausted · 30/03/2021 19:40

Ha ha yep. I hate the “what shall we have for dinner conversation”. So I’ve been doing gousto for 4 nights a week, then Friday homemade curry, Saturday takeaway, Sunday roast dinner. Love it.

HermitsLife · 30/03/2021 19:48

With a passion. Cooking feels like a chore, especially through lockdown

LouLou789 · 30/03/2021 19:53

My own meal plan this week is:
Monday, prawn and veg curry with noodles.
Tuesday, slow cooker beef new potatoes veg mix (made double and froze the rest)
Wednesday Meatloaf (made on Tuesday) and veg
Thursday Chicken and veg curry
Friday Low fat sausages with Slimming World roast potatoes and veg
Saturday chicken, mushroom and rice thing
Sunday steamed white fish, parsley sauce, mash and veg

Next week there are some things the same, and added are:
Fish pie
Slow cooker spag Bol (make double and freeze the rest)
Toad in the hole
Roast chicken breast (with Maggi herb sheet)
Defrost the extra gammon casserole I made two weeks ago, a night off cooking, YEY.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 30/03/2021 19:53

God I hate it too.

Started with Gousto & Hello Fresh just to liven things up
Got a constantly hungry DD8 and a teen who's started healthy eating so is using all the chicken breast up ffs

I'd happily have crackers some nights

moolady1977 · 30/03/2021 19:54

Oh and the other annoying but about it is he can't eat rice, pasta ,noodles ,courgettes ,narrow ,aubergines or cucumber , he also doesn't like cous cous or those type of grains

MojoJojo71 · 30/03/2021 19:54

I love Gousto for exactly this reason, I just can’t be arsed with planning what to eat. They are definitely better and cheaper than HelloFresh, I pay £34.99 for a box of 4 meals for 2 but I think the box for 4 people is only about ten pounds more. I’ve got a code for money off if I refer you somewhere. I’ll have a look and post if once I’ve found it

dementedma · 30/03/2021 19:59

God yea, it’s so tedious. I do a weekly meal plan and try and encourage the others to take their turn at cooking but it’s bloody hard work coming up with different things. One dc is veggie, one wants meat, dh is supposed to be low carbing...... Good Food magazine is my go to resource. This week (from last Thursday) we have had:
Lentil curry
Feta cheese and tomato pasta
Braised cabbage and roasted sausages
Prawn stir fry
Homity pie (potatoes, onion, leek pie)
Tomorrow is lemon chicken and rice.

Other nights are do it yourself, ie sandwiches, quick noodles, etc.

MontanaDuke · 30/03/2021 20:03

Yes totally ! We all eat different it feels like a cafe in my house if I ever won the lottery I’d employ a chef 👨‍🍳

anon666 · 30/03/2021 20:05
Grin

This has brightened my day, because yes.

Why!?

I think it's just the monotony

Geppili · 30/03/2021 20:40

It's the worst thing in my lockdown days.

MojoJojo71 · 30/03/2021 20:54

Here it is. You can get 50% off your first box and 30% off others in your first month which is pretty good

cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=JOANN137828&utm_source=iosapp

I feel I must point out that I get money off my next box too if anyone uses my link.

pollymere · 30/03/2021 21:49

Sit down once a week with whoever needs to be involved and plan what you are going to eat. Buy Pinch of Nom or similar and try some new recipes (the website is also good and has free recipes). Write your list based on that. If you hate shopping once a week try shopping every eight days...you save money that way too. Maybe take it in turns to cook? When you shop, still look out for offers etc but use them for the following week's meals. This also helps with planning when you know you've mince and chicken thighs in the freezer.

MrsPetty · 30/03/2021 22:10

Try Mindful Chef...total game changer!

eatsleepread · 30/03/2021 22:11

Yes. Parenthood would be more bearable if children didn't require meals!

kennycat · 30/03/2021 22:15

I hate it but love it in a bizarre way. I have so many recipes that I want to try and feel like there’s so little time to get them all done!! and my family don’t seem to care that much. I wish my family were as interested in food S i am but they literally eat anything I give them so I’m grateful for that.
although my husband’s absolute favourite meals are of the beige bung in the oven variety. The heathen.

justasking111 · 30/03/2021 22:35

After 44 years of marriage I hate cooking. OH loves cooking now and again but not every day. With lockdown it's worse before we would have lunch out sometime. I insisted on a takeaway Saturday night he moaned but tough. He wants food cooking from scratch well tonight it was Lidl salmon en croute with frozen mixed vegetables. There's only two of us now I would happily have a salad most days, peeling and chopping is done with Netflix on my phone

Fluffyslippers02 · 30/03/2021 22:38

I never know what to make for dinner, i go to the supermarket with an open mind to buy something different but I always end up buying mince and chicken, and there's only so much you can do with that! I've recently discovered a meatloaf recipe though, so gunna give that ago.

Empressofthemundane · 30/03/2021 23:20

I’m sick of the planning, buying, cooking, cleaning up routine too.

I recently discovered that Ocado sells chicken supremes with the skin on. This is an easy meal that my whole family likes. Just season the supremes and cook them in a cast iron skillet skin side down in a little olive oil over a medium heat. Once the skin is getting crispy, flip them and finish them off in the oven (about another 12 minutes.)

I also like to use new potatoes because they don’t need peeling. I just cut them in half and roast them in a pan with olive oil and salt and pepper.

If I make spaghetti Bol, I make enough for three meals and freeze two. To mix it up, I will add a can of beans, chilli powder and cumin to one of the portions to make chilli.

No fancy cooking here. Just trying to churn it out night after night.
