"The general view is people have had quite a few days off, and it wouldn't be a bad thing for people to see their way round to making a passing stab at getting back into the office." Boris Johnson.

@Thewinterofdiscontent

What would you all have said if you were asked “ should we have an extra bank holiday” then?

I think his comment was a reasonable lighthearted response.

Do you all think we should then?

Not something that disrespects the year long sacrifice of the British people.

Yeah but that’s not an answer is it?

His was a quick reply to a question. The “passing stab” shows he’s bring light hearted. Not really about mother’s or teachers or anyone in particular. Just the country doesn’t need another day off ( regardless of individuals that might do and those people that have to work bank holidays anyway).

upthekyber · 28/03/2021 23:38

Well you have to look at all the Tory donors who have massive office blocks which will be redundant if we don't.
Boris is a massive tool who is only interested in Boris

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 29/03/2021 00:13

Pity he didn't have less "days off" last Spring. A few less holidays in the ffing Caribbean or wherever, and a bit more attendance at Cobra meetings and a lot less fucking people might have died.

He is a gobshite of the highest fucking order.

ArcheryAnnie · 29/03/2021 00:46

@Thewinterofdiscontent

Aren’t his comments in response to “ can we have a bank holiday” though?

Boris has had no time off, a new baby and Covid so it’s not like he’s asking anyone to do anything special. I’ve also got to start my weekend job once the pubs open ( I’ve also got a full time job that I’ve had to go in for regardless of lockdown). Not looking forward to it in the slightest so I can see why others might be resistant for a return.

Boris has had "no time off"? He has a proven track record of slacking off at every high-level job he's ever done. Why would we imagine he's changed in this at all?

Boris has "a new baby"? Boris has had lots of babies - so many, in fact, that we don't know precisely how many. There is no evidence that he's inclined to do anything other than fuck-all to look after any of them.

These are not reasons to assume that he is busy.

He may be trying to be "light hearted" (although why try to be light hearted in this context?) but clearly he has not actually managed to be seen as light hearted - if that was his aim Confused

Instead he comes across as making light of people's experience of this past year.

MercyBooth · 29/03/2021 01:32

Locks the country down then moans they have had enough days off and should get back to the office. So moans at people for doing what he made them do in the first place.

Chilling. Not that far away from posts about "D" Hs you see on the Relationships board.

Ladywinesalot · 29/03/2021 09:59

He’s a fuckwit
As are many in Government

My answer remains the same.

I wouldn't say something like that because I don't think like that. He obviously does.

There was no need to imply that the people in this country are being lazy workshy skivers who aren't even trying to go in to work.

When we all know those of us who are working from home are doing so at his order.

"Boris has had no time off"

Hmm
pommedeterre · 29/03/2021 17:33

I think he meant people who have had their jobs/businesses closed..?! I agree with him (eek) - why the fuck would we want a sodding extra bank holiday this summer.

threatmatrix · 29/03/2021 17:48

They are you’re kids, so of course you homeschooled them. People need to get back to work.

PrincessNutNuts · 29/03/2021 17:50

Who is it you think stopped working?
OP posts:
bonbonours · 29/03/2021 17:51

Even in context, describing time spent working at home and home educating as mandated by government is definitely NOT "days off".

Absolute wanker. Cannot believe not only how many voted for him, but also how many STILL support him after the incredible amount of unnecessary deaths he has caused.

He was asked if the country would be getting a covid BH - he said "People" I don't think there's any basis to assume he meant any particular subset.

He meant us. Ordinary working British people.

Seeing that sort of comment AND the fact he has been proven to be yet again a lying cheating bastard, how can any woman ever vote for him again?

Theoldwrinkley · 29/03/2021 18:08

I don’t get why this is about women homeschooling? A fuck ton of people have been furloughed, some for the best part of a ‘year, so yeah getting back to work is a good thing cor many, not more holidays.

What’s he supposed to say “ well obvs exc women (not men though) who have wfh and homeschooled”

Honestly are you just looking to be offended.

So so agree with this post.
Too many looking to be pessimistic, offended on behalf of somebody else etc.
There needs to be recognition that the economy needs to start picking up, and people need to be able to work even in such ‘risky’ environments as hospitality. Caution, yes. But ill-founded belief in scare tactics, no.

ParadiseIsland · 29/03/2021 18:09

@threatmatrix

I think uyou miss the memo there @threatmatrix.

People worked from home AND homeschooled their children.

I dont know anyone who stopped working unless they had no other choice (aka furlough or been made redundant/looking for a job)

ParadiseIsland · 29/03/2021 18:12

I disagree @Theoldwrinkley.
Most people I know understood he meant that everyone should back in the office because when you are at home (even working from home) then you're not working.

That's what he pushed for last summer. That's also what Sunak is pushing for because 'even one day wfh will have devastating consequences on the hight street and Pret'.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 29/03/2021 18:13

Of course he doesn’t know anything about working and homeschooling at the same time. He probably doesn’t know where most of his kids are half of the time let alone try and go through a maths paper with them.

helpIhateclothesshopping · 29/03/2021 18:17

I hope a few more people remember some of these deeply ignorant comments of Boris and chums when it comes to election time. I think he's always known that he's not going to get the support of NHS or school staff, but any other keyworkers should be deeply offended by his comments. We've had more than enough work to do in our Keyworker house, paid and otherwise.

KisstheTeapot14 · 29/03/2021 18:27

''Words cannot express my dismay at the portion of the electorate who voted for that utter bastard.''

@DiseasesOfTheSheep - totally.

They should be doing an Angela Merkel and saying sorry that we buggered up so spectacularly.

And yes - they told us to stay home, which we did.

We worked and homeschooled (our family still is, until we get properly vaccinated at least) and tbh its a kick in the teeth from a man who doesn't have to worry about the same things we do.

I doubt a major business leader would come out with these gaffs - why he thinks he has a liscence to waffle shite I don't know.

Oh no - hang on - he's a politician.

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 29/03/2021 18:31

OMFG - the man is clueless! People who have been on furlough were required to do so by the Government, have been stressed about whether they will lose their jobs, and in many cases have been supporting family who were still working or have been volunteering. As for the rest of us, WFH, home schooling, it has just been so hard, and so relentless. He is a crass, insulting idiot, with no knowledge and no care for most people’s lives and experiences.

bananasplitsallround · 29/03/2021 18:32

I assume he's referring to those who were furloughed. We all know WFH is not a day off, homeschooling or not!!

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 29/03/2021 18:37

As for the people who seem to think that parents homeschooling weren’t ALSO doing their paid jobs - believe me, we were. On more than one occasion when we had big deadlines I ended up working all night because trying to work with a bored child bugging me for attention every minute (when not actually doing the recommended fricking 5 hours a day of homeschooling) was so slow. And I do mean all night. Finishing at 6am, when DD woke up, and then facing a day of work and childcare and home schooling on no sleep. I sobbed down the phone at my poor boss more than once, and ended up using annual leave just to survive, which means we won’t really get any time off this the summer holidays, as I won’t have more than a few days leave left. I am furious!
