To want to drink my own drink?

shoutyshouter · 28/03/2021 12:57

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's husband constantly drinks their drinks?
It drives me absolutely bloody mental.
I'll make a pint of squash, have a few gulps, leave it on the side and 20 minutes later it's all gone with just an empty glass left.
I open a can of coke and will have a few sips, an hour later it will be empty in the recycling bin.
His excuse for 10 years has been "well I only wanted a few sips" or "I didn't want a whole one"
This happens at least 3 times a day and I am literally at the end of my tether.
Stop drinking my bloody drinks Angry

This thread is making me extremely thirsty, I'm off for a nice cold drink of water.

MoreHairyThanScary · 28/03/2021 14:07

I would set one up a lace it with something relatively harm less but unpleasant. You have told him and he does listen direct action seems like the only option.

Vinegar might smell maybe white pepper, or hot sauce in a red coloured squash?

Hazel444 · 28/03/2021 14:08

My DH has never done this - sounds very annoying and entitled!

FusionChefGeoff · 28/03/2021 14:09

It would have reached explosion point for me way earlier - it's so fucking rude / entitled
/ lazy.

Aside from completely losing your shit (which it doesn't sound like you will ever do - for some unknown reason)

Could you buy some distinctive glasses say - these are mine. If you drink from these I know you just don't give a fuck about me - is that true? Presumably he will say no and then you reinforce the point that ANY drink in these glasses is yours and he is to stay well clear.

Sansaplans · 28/03/2021 14:09

Can't say have ever had this issue here! That would annoy me too.

Cherrysoup · 28/03/2021 14:15

How bizarre. I wouldn’t dream of drinking my DH’s drink. It’s his, I can get my own.

RandomMess · 28/03/2021 14:18

Ewwwwwwww

Only my cat is the drink thief in this house (she sniffs out the freshest water).

Workinghardeveryday · 28/03/2021 14:22

Please please put something like vinegar in it and let us know what happens 🤣.
Bet it will stop him after a couple of times - bit like cbt 😂😂

Artichokepiglet · 28/03/2021 14:40

You have my sympathy - My DP does this with wine. If we’re doing separate things in the evening, he’ll come to chat to me about something for ten minutes, help himself to half the glass of wine I’ve poured myself and disappear off again. I often can’t be bothered to go and get more but it’s so annoying. I wish he’d just go and get his own glass.

DeciduousPerennial · 28/03/2021 14:42

It would have me way less time than 10 years to reach boiling point

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/03/2021 14:48

@Mellonsprite

This is very weird to me.... I wouldn’t want to drink out if anyone’s drink. It’s just a bit bluergh! He should 100% leave your drinks alone!
Not bluergh if it's your husband surely?
Dixiechickonhols · 28/03/2021 14:58

Odd. Tell him not to drink your drink. Named water bottles like love island?!

PattyPan · 28/03/2021 15:03

Yanbu, DP and I have never drunk each other’s drinks and it would never occur to us to! Totally bizarre behaviour.

Goatinthegarden · 28/03/2021 15:20

This is weird behaviour.

I would never drink a drink that was just lying around and nor would I expect anyone to drink from my glass that I had left out (I don’t really leave drinks lying around though either).

whetherpigshavewings · 28/03/2021 15:25

You are not wrong

but if it's thing like squash, just use a drink bottle.

If I do see drinks lying around, I'll put the glasses in the dish washer.

whetherpigshavewings · 28/03/2021 15:27

Not bluergh if it's your husband surely?

still bluergh!

I have sex and share things with mine, but I don't share my tooth brush, my drinks or my pillow Grin

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

Laxatives
Illegal and dangerous.
altiara · 28/03/2021 15:31

Does he ever make his own drinks? Or just gets thirsty when he sees yours?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/03/2021 15:35

Illegal and dangerous.

But hilarious.

P.s does anyone on this site have a sense of humour anymore? Must be a fucking boring life being so serious all the time!

Yeh. I just don't find poisoning someone and making them I'll 'hilarious'.
shoutyshouter · 28/03/2021 15:43

I've been playing a little game today.
I've made half a cup of squash at a time and drank it in one go.
Miraculously he's not bothered making himself a drink even though he couldn't steal mine.
Clearly he just cannot be arsed. He'd rather go thirsty.

OP posts:
alanpartridgefromtheoasthouse · 28/03/2021 15:44

It boggles my mind that even after you've told him you find it annoying he still does it! That is so blatantly disrespectful. It's not exactly a hard habit to break! Hmm

Sounds like problem solved then.

Or buy a lockable food storage box and lock your drink in it. If he doesn't get the message then, he's a lost cause.

DH and I NEVER 'sample' each other's food or drink without asking. It's just plain rude.

I certainly wouldn't want to share a toothbrush unless things were very, very dire but when we spoon we share my pillow, can't get super close otherwise Grin
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/03/2021 17:45

Oh for god sake @RootyT00t get a grip. I wasn't being serious 🙄
