Hypothetical lockdown situation

Colabottles29 · 28/03/2021 12:05

If the Government announced that lockdown that we're currently in would remain in place until at least 2022 because of new variants, would you continue to follow it or not ? Why or why not? Just interested to see.

What would the figures for hospitalisations, deaths etc be in this hypothetical scenario?

hellcatspangle · 28/03/2021 15:23

No I wouldn't. Simply because that's a bit of a never ending scenario potentially, and I'm not prepared to exist like this for much longer. I'd rather get on with my life and take my chances.

AvaAvocado · 28/03/2021 15:30

No I bloody wouldn't. Life is for living.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/03/2021 15:33

I am willing until summer. Then... Sorry, no.
As pp aaid. Never ending scenario then and most of us are very much done.
Vaccine drive is good as well so that makes the no decision easier.
I will, however, happily continue with masks and social distancing.

This. ^

Another lengthy lockdown will kill the economy, and destroy the country.

mn81987 · 28/03/2021 15:35

Nope! Not even doing it now

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 28/03/2021 15:37

No, most of the at risk adults have had their first vaccine and will have the second one before the summer. I have stuck to the rules, but will not continue to do so if it is still in place in the summer

LaceyBetty · 28/03/2021 15:40

I've been following the rules almost 100% but there is no way I would continue to do so into 2022.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/03/2021 15:42

I need other shops to open properly. And restaurants and pubs. I can't be doing with the tour de B&M being the most exciting thing of a week much longer...

LadyCatStark · 28/03/2021 15:46

No, I’m not prepared to stay like this for a moment longer than the Government have mapped out and even that is too long for me. Obviously I can’t go into shops and restaurants until they open though, so I wouldn’t have much choice on that.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 28/03/2021 15:48

Havent we all had enough of lockdown, why would you be thinking about hypothetical extensions?

RMRM · 28/03/2021 15:51

Yeah, I'd be fine, but I'm in a privileged position. I know this. Could do this for many more years tbh. I get that others can't.

Not arsed about shops or festivals or cafes or restaurants being open. Family live miles away anyway. I can exercise in the house.

RMRM · 28/03/2021 15:54

I don't plan to rush back to anything in the summer either.

lljkk · 28/03/2021 15:54

It will be legally enforced by police issuing fines so I'll be fucked if I don't follow it, won't I.

TidyDancer · 28/03/2021 15:54

Yes I would. I am one of the few people who have actually enjoyed lockdown life but then I have been accused more than once of having reclusive tendencies.

Chloemol · 28/03/2021 15:55

Yes if necessary, and I would also be prepared to follow SD guidelines including wearing masks after 21st June if thats what is required to lift everything then

RMRM · 28/03/2021 15:55

I've always thought this will take 3,4,5 yrs to sort out as well, so mentally it wouldn't be a shock to me.

Wakemeuuuup · 28/03/2021 15:56

I'd do it but I'd hate it. Mind you I'm also dreading all the rushing around and muddy rugby kit that's restarting next week.

Norwaydidnthappen · 28/03/2021 15:56

Nope. We were like prisoners in our own home during the first lockdown because I was pregnant and scared myself to death reading horror stories. We honestly barely even left to go for a walk, I was too scared we’d catch it somehow and I sanitised food shopping and parcels etc. We didn’t see anyone for months and it was bloody miserable but I thought it would be a one off so I didn’t mind. Then the rules were relaxed over summer and cases were so low, it felt like it was finally coming to an end. We went to restaurants, saw our family and in September DH returned to work and DC to school. Life finally felt a bit normal and good again then they slapped restrictions on us again and the DC were back at home. Absolutely miserable especially considering the average age of death is 82 and our life expectancy is 81. I’m young and healthy so statistically speaking it’s more of a risk when I get in the car or cross a road. I’m sick of hiding away now, I want to live my life and I want my DC to have a decent childhood too. It’s become very Kafkaesque or Orwellian, we’re turning into a police state.

Spied · 28/03/2021 15:57

Yes, we've come this far.
I also like not having any social interaction with my in-laws.

GintyMcGinty · 28/03/2021 16:02

No - I am being the rules just now.

Deaths and hospitalizations are plummeting. Once they have completed the vaccinations of those at risk of dying then life needs to get going again.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 28/03/2021 16:22

No, I'm not prepared to wait until then to be able to hug my adult DD.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/03/2021 17:00

No, I wouldn't. I'm not following it to the letter now so sod doing it for another year

firstevernamechange · 28/03/2021 17:24

Haven't since March 2020. I'm not taking responsibility for the government underfunding the health service and there being no plan for a pandemic response.
Yes, I'm selfish and I don't give a shit about your emotional blackmail.

UrAWizHarry · 28/03/2021 17:26

Nope.

As soon as we are past the point that NHS is at risk of being overwhelmed I will no longer support any lockdown.
