Hypothetical lockdown situation

If the Government announced that lockdown that we're currently in would remain in place until at least 2022 because of new variants, would you continue to follow it or not ? Why or why not? Just interested to see.

People wouldn't in your scenario because it's a long time but let's face it, the govt would never give such advance notice.

They'll do as they have been doing, giving a little hope, moving the goal-posts, blaming us and gaslighting us to ensure compliance.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2021 19:12

@FilthyforFirth

Not a chance in hell I would. I have lost a lot of patience with this lockdown to be honest. We cannot live like this forever, what is the point?
We can't allow anyone to get covid, and we can't allow anyone to die, of anything. Ever.
Ninawest100 · 28/03/2021 19:26

Does anyone think we will see a new lockdown come September, given the extension of the Covid laws?

RMRM · 28/03/2021 19:45

I wouldn't be surprised to see another lockdown, obviously far too late to stop a big wave of deaths, no. We aren't doing much to stop the variants coming in and we still don't know how long the vaccinations last.

traffolls · 28/03/2021 19:51

I'd love to think "no fecking way" but if it's enforced in law, we don't have much bloody choice unless we're all gong to become anarchists? Our right to protest looks like it's going out of the window too! Convenient!

traffolls · 28/03/2021 19:51

The mental health of the nation would be pretty much shot though.

diwrnachoflleyn · 28/03/2021 19:54

No, not a chance.

kowari · 28/03/2021 19:55

No, I would see my family. We have been travelling 45 minutes to stay overnight with our bubble as I am a single parent. So we would continue doing that legally. I would meet other family for walks in groups of more than two, sometimes going into theirs for coffee or having them around to sit in my garden in the sun with a cider. I would continue to visit my grandmother, take her treats, sit in her garden, or go inside if she's comfortable with that.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 28/03/2021 19:56

No.

I'm not doing it at the moment, either.

ZiggyBaby · 28/03/2021 20:03

No

Lucaslucas1612 · 28/03/2021 20:22

No I wouldn't, it's been too long now. We can't keep locking down constantly in a never ending sequence. We need to get on with it now, we need to accept there will be deaths just like with any other virus. The economy and the country need to get back to some normality.

I don't really understand the article about an inevitable forth lockdown someone posted, we can't prevent all deaths and why are we trying to? We don't lock down every winter for the flu, we vaccinate people and get on with it. What are the numbers that die annually from flu? If we are not locking down for flu to prevent any deaths than why would we for covid with whichever strains come along.

PatchworkElmer · 28/03/2021 20:28

I’m not sure. My initial reaction was ‘no, I’d see my parents once we’re all vaccinated, enough is enough’. But if a new variant emerged that was resistant to the vaccines, I don’t think I could put them at risk. So yes, in some circumstances I would still comply.

VettiyaIruken · 28/03/2021 20:31

I would because I'm quite sure there would be consequences for breaking the law and I can't afford to pay fines. 🤷‍♀️

Also I'm cev and I'd prefer to reduce the risk of kicking my oxygen habit.

lockdownalli · 28/03/2021 20:36

Well yes I would have to wouldn't I?

Can't go to restaurants that aren't open, go clothes shopping when they are all shut, go to a museum or stay in a hotel that's closed. Confused

I already hug my adult DC though.........There's nobody else I am that bothered about. Can see my mates online or for SD walks.

No. There would be riots.
sunflowersandbuttercups · 28/03/2021 20:41

Those saying yes - how long would you be willing to put your lives on hold like this for?

Ninawest100 · 28/03/2021 20:43

I used to think there would be riots too but I honestly don't think so anymore.
A year later, people are still getting screamed at on here and called all sorts of names because they had a cup of tea at their Mum's house.
There will be people who for whatever reason, maybe fear, anxiety, would live with these restrictions indefinitely.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/03/2021 20:47

There is a limit to everything and many of us reached that limit no matter how resilient we normally are.

I am this 🤏 far from getting an under armour kit out, a scramble bike and join local youth in making noise around here

Moelwynbach · 28/03/2021 20:56

TBH I think the government will come to a point when they will realise that no matter what the sanctions are, the UK public will not cope with or adhere to it anymore. There will be a tipping point. Mine will be soon.

shittingthreeeyedraven · 28/03/2021 21:02

@Spied

Yes, we've come this far. I also like not having any social interaction with my in-laws.
Snap Grin I’m hoping they might not find out that lockdown is loosening...like the soldiers after Vietnam living in the jungle and I can keep not having to for a bit longer
VettiyaIruken · 28/03/2021 21:04

@sunflowersandbuttercups

Those saying yes - how long would you be willing to put your lives on hold like this for?
Until they stopped issuing fines
Racoonworld · 28/03/2021 21:10

No. I’m not following it completely now so won’t comply with further lockdown. It’s gone on too long. Some measures, fine. Illegal to see friends and family for the rest of 2021? No.

Ninawest100 · 28/03/2021 21:12

Wanting to see your family is a need. It's not just wanting a pint or dinner at a restaurant. It is inhumane to restrict families for the best part of a year pandemic or not.

Racoonworld · 28/03/2021 21:33

Yes exactly. I don’t actually care if they keep other restrictions but think we should be allowed to see family and friends in your own home.
RuthW · 28/03/2021 21:36

Yes I would
