AIBU to say Keeley Hawes is a really really good actress/tor?

Watched in Ashes to Ashes, and the Bodyguard

I'm now rewatching Line of Duty from the start (now on Season 2) and i think she is so different. Not one of those actors that always play the same kind of character, I didnt even realise it was her at first

She's the one actress I can watch in anything and see her as that character and not keeley hawes . If she is in something I watch it

TheKeatingFive · 25/03/2021 22:30

Agreed, she’s wonderful.

She’s great in everything, but her performance as Lindsay Denton in LOD is just stunning. She’s brings such a complex, unsympathetic character to life and makes you root for her.

Mooloolabababy · 25/03/2021 22:41

Ah I love her, she is fab in everything!!

OwlinaTree · 25/03/2021 22:45

She was amazing in it's a sin - that scene in the hospital - I was nearly crying.

PerkingFaintly · 25/03/2021 22:46

Oh I'm so glad to see all this Keeley love. I've long thought she was brilliant, and can't understand why Keira Knightley (similar looks) seems to get all the mentions and big name parts.

Hawes knocks Knightley into a cocked hat as an actor. I can watch her forever. Well, except as Irritating Alice but that's the character.

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/03/2021 01:13

Lindsay Denton. One of my favourite tv characters of all time...

WisnaeMe · 26/03/2021 01:15

@LisaStansfield

She is just amazing in Line of Duty.

spoilers for previous seasons of LOD below

Had me rooting for her in some scenes and then seconds later properly gasping at how evil and conniving she could be. Lynsey Denton is SUCH a good character and she was obviously having the time of her life playing her. The scene where she asks steve what will happen to her cat when she gets arrested had me in tears. Women actors over 35 must explode with joy when they get to play complicated characters like that.

My favourite character in Line of Duty too 🎉

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 26/03/2021 01:29

Excellent in The Missing as well and of course The Vicar of Dibley!

Mavedrai · 26/03/2021 01:52

I've loved her since Our Mutual Friend. I was impressed with how she made a dull character compelling and likeable. She has an understated kind of charisma, as well as a lovely speaking voice.

nonicks · 26/03/2021 01:57

Amazing actress and I have a huge crush on her

RickiTarr · 26/03/2021 02:12

She is apparently lovely in real life too. To work with, I mean. No idea what she’s like at home. Grin I’ve heard three or four tv crew comment positively on how down to earth and friendly she is, though. Supposedly very easy to work with and always remembers anyone she has worked with previously, even junior crew.

I was a big fan anyway, since Tipping the Velvet and even some Dennis Potter thing before that, but it’s even nicer to hear she’s a good’un.

jessstan2 · 26/03/2021 02:41

Yes Keeley Hawes is good. I am watching 'Line of Duty' too, finished S2 and on to S3.

She is so understated in that role, it's marvellous to watch. By the end I still couldn't work out if she was a baddie or a goodie - they all seem to be a strong mixture of both in that series, everyone has secrets and nobody is to be trusted.

Keeley Hawes was great in 'The Bodyguard' and in 'Upstairs Downstairs'.

JaneJeffer · 26/03/2021 02:56

She's amazing. Makes anything watchable.

Phantom1 · 26/03/2021 02:58

I saw her in play with Sheila Hancock and Lee Evans. Keeley Hawes left a wee or so after I saw it because she didn't get on with Sheila Hancock. It was a comedy called Barking in Essex. She was excellent playing a really common woman. And the language!!! Shock

Phantom1 · 26/03/2021 02:59

Week not wee!

jessstan2 · 26/03/2021 04:10

@moofolk

Tipping the Velvet also. YANBU
Oh yes of course, I forgot about 'Tipping'. She was delightful in that.
littlepattilou · 26/03/2021 04:12

@Atalantea

Agree. She is amazing. Also fab in 'Finding Alice.'

Funny to think she did the voce of Lara Croft in the video games in the noughties!

littlepattilou · 26/03/2021 04:12

The VOICE of Lara Croft!

MrsMackesy · 26/03/2021 05:02

Everything and everyone in The Durrells was marvellous, including Keeley Hawes.

I was less impressed with Finding Alice - not Keeley Hawes specifically, just on the whole. She does seem to be 'in everything' at the moment which happens with some actors from time to time and is a tad irritating.

MrsMackesy · 26/03/2021 05:07

That's quite a response to not getting on with someone...
percheron67 · 26/03/2021 07:44

Consummate actor/actress.

Liverbird77 · 26/03/2021 08:05

She was fabulous in the Diana Does drama.

BJHair · 26/03/2021 08:06

She was in Spooks in the very early episodes
She played Zoe Reynolds
Shes married to the guy who played Tom 😂 Matthew Macfadyen they met when in Spooks

It took me a while to realise she was the same actress Lindsey Denton in Line of Duty and the Bodyguard
I think she’s a great actress and not typecast in a particular role

RampantIvy · 26/03/2021 08:09

I was going to say that the first thing I remember seeing her in was the Diana Dors drama. She is so versatile isn't she. True talent.

Ellpellwood · 26/03/2021 08:20

She is brilliant. We're also watching Ashes to Ashes at the moment.
