When your neighbours have three children seven and over?

Adjoining properties.

It's not messy when you hoover every evening. That's a totally normal thing to do, I hoover once a day. Most people do

I Don't

jellybellybanana · 26/03/2021 14:41

And?

LilMidge01 · 26/03/2021 14:42

@AmberItsACertainty

AnaisNun is this a covid thing? If it's not, try reporting her when lockdown is over. There are rules about planning consent for running a business from home because of the impact on neighbors.

OP I feel your pain. I have a neighbour like this who thinks they can tell me what to do and when, in my own home whilst doing whatever the fuck they like in their home with no consideration for anyone else . Doesn't even ask if there's a reason I'm doing xyz at that time or asks if I have any ideas for solutions. No, just tells me off like I'm a naughty child and demands I stop. I told mine they were being unreasonable to expect me to have a routine to suit them, what with this being my life and all. Some people just aren't suited to living in flats, neighbour noise from daily living comes as part of the experience.

No. There are no 'planning rules' in this case. If she were operating a shop/salon where customers were visiting etc, then you can potentially argue a change of use has occurred which requires planning permission. But if she is just 'working from home' by herself then it is still a residential dwelling. It is just how she conducts herself in her own home that you have an issue with. That is a nieghbour or noise dispute. Nothing to do with planning. There is no planning rule saying you have to be in bed by midnight and can't make any noise in your own home.

We hoover once a week downstairs and once a fortnight upstairs. And we have a dog. I must be a right minger!

OldEvilOwl · 26/03/2021 15:49

jellybellybanana And what? Grin

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 26/03/2021 15:53

@jellybellybanana

You hoover every night? shock You must be a very messy lot!

They really don't unless shoes are worn in the house and there are pets. There's nothing on my floors for at least a couple of days.

They really do, if they have children. Children make crumbs. Also dust and hair and bits don't only land once a week.

PrincessNutNuts · 26/03/2021 15:57

Because everyone is at home I either vacuum at 8 am or 6 pm, pretty much. I'm usually on a call when my husband is on lunch.

crosstalk · 26/03/2021 15:58

OMG people hoover every day?

I said the same before😂😂😂 I got cheap wireless hoover and do a quick run around when "closing the shop for the night". I used to actually having to do that when closing actual shops so it's just an official shutting down for me😂 Eat, clean kitchen, shower, 5 min hoover, done for the day.
Caspianberg · 26/03/2021 16:01

Sounds fine. We do a quick hoover every evening around that time as baby Ds usually discards half his dinner on the floor.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/03/2021 16:02

Note I am doing it because of dust allergies. Not filth. And people who don't hoover every day are in no way dirty! We used to do once a week and it was fine. But this helps us I guess. Plus it's a ritual now

Children make crumbs if they're not sitting up at the table correctly, as do adults. There has to be a lot of you to make any noticeable dust in one or two days.

Don't try and make out that people are in the minority for not hoovering daily. They're not.
@MyGrassIsBrowner

I’d love to know.

I suspect it’s international classes.

Which means she’s not only noisy but she’s clearly GOOD at it, and has built up a client base and is probably raking it in, so now I’m going to have to live life to a Shakira soundtrack.

Which would be totally fine if I hadn’t put on 3 stone in the last 12 months. If just feels like I’m being taunted.
Can you request free entry? It isn't annoying if you are part of it! Pre covid there were distinctions between residential and commercial premises which are clearly blurred, it might make sense for her to keep the neighbours onside.

Ivy455 · 26/03/2021 16:04

They are being unreasonable. I don't even get home from work until about half six and I often hoover outside my toddler's room when she's sleeping. It doesn't wake her up so I doubt it would wake up neighbours' kids.

CyberPixie · 26/03/2021 16:05

Technically there's a law against it after 6pm weekdays. It's allowed between 8am and 6pm on weekdays, Saturdays between 8am and 1pm and never on a Sunday, same as DIY.

However, it's silly and a bit outdated to lump vacuuming. I think up till 8pm is OK, lots of people don't have time in the day, have to work etc. I can't even hear my neighbours hoover.

Really😱
BrumBoo · 26/03/2021 16:10

Wouldn't bother bother me, and mine are younger/go to bed around 7-8pm. Hoovering past 10pm on a regular bases may be annoying, but I don't anyone who does that (unless there was an accident like with the glass).

I sometimes put a wash/tumble dry on at 7am on a weekday, but I know the neighbours also are up for the school run. If it was a case of 'wet footy kit needs drying by 9am on a Saturday' though, well they may have to suck it up..

Bibidy · 26/03/2021 16:20

This is mad, it's not late at all and hoovering is hardly a 'disruptive' noise anyway. Not like you were practising drums.

hedgehogger1 · 26/03/2021 16:23

My house gets hoovered once a week... when the cleaner comes. We live in filth

IntermittentParps · 26/03/2021 16:29

Dad came and knocked on the door to tell me to stop which has got my goat right up too.
I hope you suggested he fuck off?

DuesToTheDirt · 26/03/2021 16:30

OMG people hoover every day?

Years ago I was with a friend and we paid a visit to a friend of his, along with a few other people. While we were there, for an afternoon at most, the owner got out the hoover twice to vacuum the living room. Confused

dotdashdashdash · 26/03/2021 16:32

I think past 8 and you'll be pushing it, but 6.30? That's a perfectly reasonable time.

Squashiesaremyfav · 26/03/2021 16:34

That’s nothing. My old neighbour used to hoover snd put her washing machine on at 3 in the morning. We moved

whetherpigshavewings · 26/03/2021 16:38

I HATE antisocial and noisy neighbours

but up to 7:30pm is absolutely fine Confused

I'd say that between 9am and 8pm is completely reasonable for any household appliance. I'd struggle to put my dishwasher before 8pm to be honest.

He must be insane if 6:30 is an issue, most kids are barely home at this time!
