AIBU to not want to eat rabbit on Easter Sunday?

Just because...well... the Easter Bunny Blush

IL's planning to get take away from local restaurant. Set menu, 4 courses. Main is rabbit. Not something I would choose, but I'd make the effort to eat it if served. However, I don't want to tell my DC we'll be eating rabbit at Easter. And would you expect your Dc to eat it?

I can remember DM tricking me that I was eating "chicken" when it was rabbit. She told me halfway through eating Sunday dinner and the contents of my mouth hit the plate in shock and that was the end of that meal for my appetite. Rabbits were my favourite animal, and while I didn't have them as pets myself, culturally they are in that league for many children.

As an adult, I would eat it and see the distinction between wild animals (assuming it is wild game) and domesticated breeds of pet.

I've ended up aquiring a brace of phesants and preparing them at home. I probably would find rabbit a step too far.

Omnivores are not obliged to eat any meat going. Many have preferences based on taste, cultural values and associations of animals and their welfare. Plenty of vegetarians/ vegans don't eat all types of vegetable either.

In a predominantly urban population, rabbit is not a mainstream source of meat and it's fine for omnivores to feel uncomfortable about eating it.

in current circumstances is the major Christian festival across the world.

For the religious perhaps but for us secular non-believer folk it's just an excuse to have a long weekend and some chocolate, no thought to be given to a long dead Palestinian dude.

@VashtaNerada

This is bonkers. Chickens are cute, cows are cute, lambs are cute, pigs are cute. Either you eat meat or you don’t! I honestly wouldn’t think twice about this. (Besides, isn’t the Easter Bunny a magic human-sized entity? Not an actual little rabbit?)
It's like a job share... But James Marsden served up for lunch isn't the worse option 😉

For Christians who have given up chocolate through Lent, it’s also an opportunity to binge on chocolate. Smile

This! Otherwise, presumably vegetarians and vegans are obliged to eat every vegetable in existence and are morally wrong to reject broccoli because they don't like it?

And I still think it's a shit choice of restaurant if you don't get any options. In that case I may as well cook for myself!

Well said. I eat beef, chicken and occasionally lamb and lambs liver mainly because of both bog standard anaemia and pernicious anaemia, otherwise I’d be vegetarian. I don’t want to eat pork, or rabbit or game etc. I stomach what I can and my personal preferences are just fine. And it is very poor of a restaurant to only offer one main. Rabbit isn’t something that everyone wants to eat. We don’t live in a country where it’s part of our day to day staple diet like it might be in France. Some people eat Hedgehog and Zebra. Doesn’t mean anyone is obliged to eat it and should be shamed for finding it stomach turning.

Don't think not wanting to eat rabbit is the issue. Squeamishness about eating it on a particular day, when you usually eat it, is a bit odd though and smacks of attention seeking.

Unless it's for religious reasons.
