Ironically I'll be at a funeral but will you be taking part ?

No. I find minute silences pointless. And no, I don't do it on remembrance Sundays either. I do buy poppies/donate though. I think taking care of the living is the best way to honour the dead.

Tal45 · 23/03/2021 08:20

I don't see the point in a minutes silence, I wouldn't appreciate it if I was dead so no I never do them unless I have to. I don't go to funerals either and definitely don't want one myself.

Elderflower14 · 23/03/2021 08:21

I'll be in the school playground so it's unlikely to be very quiet! May do one later...

minniemoocher · 23/03/2021 08:24

Yes because I've organised it for my town. All the shops are taking part, town crier is ringing a bell at both ends and the vicar is reading the names of everyone submitted to us - it's 178 names.

Those who have lost loved ones in the past year have expressed thanks that they can mark the loss of their loved one publically in this way

ReverendRicketyCricket · 23/03/2021 08:25

Nope. Won't be standing outside shining a bloody light either. Absolute nonsense.

Sorry to those who have lost loved ones but you really don't need a Government prescribed time to remember them and if you think Johnson gives a shit you're sadly mistaken.

Brendabigbaps · 23/03/2021 08:25

What’s the point? We’re still living this shit!

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 23/03/2021 08:25

Yes, absolutely. I wasn't even aware of it so thank you for informing me!

en0la · 23/03/2021 08:26

Reading out the names is touching for those involved but are they more worthy people then those who died from other causes ?

OP posts:
minniemoocher · 23/03/2021 08:27

@Lovestonap

It is for the living though, it's so their family and friends can hear that name read out, their loved one is a person not a number posted on a government website. We have a couple of "celebrities" who have died so we have the local news coming too

Laeta · 23/03/2021 08:27

Nope. Not a chance.

TheQueef · 23/03/2021 08:28

Yes.
I'll be pausing to remember what a bad year we've all had and those that didn't make it.

FluffyHippo · 23/03/2021 08:31

Nah, I've got better things to do than take part in yet more government-dictated community hysterics.

MaxNormal · 23/03/2021 08:33

No Hmm

Theluggage15 · 23/03/2021 08:36

Reading out the names?! What about the people who have died in accidents, from heart attacks, cancer etc. It’s ok for them to be numbers?

It’s a stupid offensive idea but I suppose people will be able to talk about it on Facebook and how silent they were etc.

PanamaPattie · 23/03/2021 08:38

No. The dead don’t care and the people left behind don’t need reminding.

HunkyPunk · 23/03/2021 08:38

I don't know...

I think this encapsulates my misgivings. It feels like the Government is trying to harness our feelings to its own ends.

Totally agree with this comment.

LemonRoses · 23/03/2021 08:42

No. I’m desperately sorry for those who have lost loved ones too soon.

I can’t bring myself to support government faux concern and propaganda actions. I feel physically sick when Johnson and his Cronies pretend to give two figs. The excess deaths are down to poor government decisions. I’ll not stand with them.

Vivana · 23/03/2021 08:42

No I won't as I've seen 15 people die of covid and cared for many residents who have had it. I pay my respects in my own personal. Way

Catwoman123 · 23/03/2021 08:43

@notacooldad

Same here.

Viviennemary · 23/03/2021 08:43

No. People have died from other diseases and conditions. And they are no less important. And people have suffered through lack of medical attention because of Covid.

99victoria · 23/03/2021 08:43

No I won't. You can't compare it to Remembrance Day - the point if that is for us to stop and remember, to take time out of our busy lives to remind ourselves of the consequences of war and the sacrifices made by so many. We are still right in the middle of all this crap - most of us are thinking about it every waking minute of every day. Why do we need to pause and 'think about it? If anything, we should have a minute's silence to focus on anything OTHER than bloody covid!

I don’t give a shiny shit about Boris but as a family who couldn’t attend either funerals it’s quite nice to actually know we are all taking a minute to pause together.
Frogella · 23/03/2021 08:44

Of course not. I don't need the government to tell me when to 'remember' and I frankly judge those who do.

Trumplosttheelection · 23/03/2021 08:46

Well as a nhs employee I find those of you sneering at this event really offensive. Just so you know.
